Absolutely magnificent!! One of the most underrated tenors of recent decades. He is still going strong. I even prefer his guttural yet intensely lyrical Bellini renditions to Pavarotti, who can at times be piercing in this repertoire. Wonderful.

great rendition for sure but you cant say fisichella sings this more pleasantly that pavarotti. pavarotti phrases much more elegantly, and musically, and fisichella sings much of his music with 1 dynamic. however the tone is great and so are his high notes.

Why was this great, GREAT voice virtually ignored in USA?? He certainly was better & more secure & pleasant to hear than Pav, Merritt, Krauss, Blake, et. al. in this repertoire!!

Salvatore Fisichella canta e interpreta benissimo Arturo. Il mio parere, senza pretese, è del tutto positivo. Non capisco però una cosa: perché parlare del Fa sovracuto quando il cantante ha eseguito ( bene ) un reb sovracuto? La scrittura del fa4 era certemente riferita all'epoca ed era eseguita in falsetto. Ma sapete cosa vuol dire per un tenore eseguire, in voce, una nota del genere? Non è necessario per essere un grande cantante, e ridurre tutto a un fenomeno da circo è triste.

Commento molto intelligente, i miei complimenti ! Già quando si ha un'estensione vocale sicura fino al si / si bemolle buona parte del repertorio tenorile può essere affrontata senza troppi problemi e quindi è a maggior ragione riduttivo definire " grande " o meno un cantante sulla base del fatto che abbia o no i sopracuti. Non occorre essere tenori " pirotecnici " per passare alla storia, bisogna piuttosto cercare di sfruttare al meglio l'estenzione vocale che sia ha. Grande Fisichella.

La ringrazio dell'apprezzamento, oggi siamo abituati alla perfezione delle macchine e ci rendiamo poco conto della difficoltà del canto, soprattutto di quello tenorile. La voce da sola, senza la tecnica corretta, non basta e troppi, per una diffusa ignoranza e poche occasioni di ascolto in teatro, riducono tutto a suoni acuti o stentorei senza capire, del canto, la natura musicale. ma quale voce pesante!!!!! questa è la pasta per il vero Arturo...e qui il maestro aveva una cinquantina d'anni.....e i suoi acuti sono perfetti!!! Bravissimo! Voce squillante e stile belcantista molto bello. Vorrei ricordare che Bellini ha composto quest'opera per Giacomo Rubini che faceva i sovracuti in falsetto (quindi tenore falsettista) in pù il LA era più basso di oggi (mezzo tono sotto). Direi che un FA sovracuto cantato in falsetto non porta niente di pù a questa bellissima caballetta.

Still no high F here. All the tenors either sing A to C, or otherwise double up on the high C in both stanzas. Nicolai Gedda sings High C and then high F as Bellini composed it!

Second, the pitch setting during the period when this was written was about a half-step lower and a bit darker! This means that for a fuller lyrical tenor of today who is about 60 years old, with a stellar career behind him and who was probably tired on the night that particular recording was made, we, the intelligent public can forgive him.

Yes, but the problem with original pitch today is the orchestra! The orchestras dictate the standard pitch because they want a brighter sound, which means that the pitch is and has been pushed upward! Also, remember that orchestras in Bellini's time were considerably smaller than those of today. So, it is nothing short of a miracle when singers can combat all the negative odds(which are so many to mention now) to produce beautiful sounds and memorable performances.

:-) Everyday I get up complaining about the aches and pains that come with getting older. I think "why must youth be wasted on the young?" and let's face it, the world today belongs to those 18-35. Then I listen to Fisichella and am SO HAPPY I was born when I was cause I heard him many times live, and even got to know him a bit. WHAT AN AMAZING VOICE, ARTIST, AND MAN !! Others can be king of the high C's. For Sal, those were middle voice !! !! !!
