@mwinnful there are commericials so it's not the BBC... and the fact is, without a show like this, I'd never have heard of George Carlin! I try to ignore the numbers and enjoy some good comedians
Phil Juptitus ??? I didn`t even know he was a comic I always thought he was just an annoying fat smarmy cunt off Never Mind The Buzzcocks and according to this list he`s funnier than George Carlin . Learn something new everyday
Oh God stop bitchin'. If this top would've been made in the U.S, there would've been 2-3 comedians from other countries and the rest Americans. Because they think they're the best at anything and because they don't know shit about other cultures than their own.
George Carlin received more awards than anyone in this part of the list, and then to boot down to the top 25. In America he was ranked number 2. In Britain, according to other sources(not this pathetic list) he was ranked top 30. Whoever did this list was bais.
@Batpod05 This is a British list and they even say in the video that he's virtually unknown in the U.K. So it's actually a testament that he is an unknown there and still made it to 62.
Wouldn't worry about order in the list. Some of the people in the 80-90s are among my favourites, doesn't matter much. It's nice to see a big list of comedians though. Wouldn't waste your time rating and arguing over "what I like".
@MrVinushka Oh Louis C.K. is hilarious. And I agree Ricky is better with Stephen, especially on The Ricky Gervais Show along with Karl Pilkington. I think that their podcasts were the funniest I've ever heard in my life.
@MrVinushka As far as current comedians go, I rate Ricky Gervais as the highest. But for classic comedy I can't really say for stand up. I think Monty Python is the greatest comedy team the world will ever see.
@MrVinushka I watched a special he had on HBO around 2000 or 2001 I think and I never laughed once. It was literally an old bitter fart rambling about things that piss him off. Usually that would make me laugh but it just came off as annoying.
The size of the audience says it all. So funny, who ever made this list. If you look around on the top ten comedians of all time, George Carlin is almost always in them. Always. That's top ten. Not sure what happened here, the extra ninety was just too much for 'em. Yikes. And, to show that it really is biased, what about Canada? What about Hong Kong? What about Australia? I think so far there have been about six or so Americans and ALL the rest from the United Kingdom. Wow.
George Carlin was funny in the 1970's, then every other decade he performed with was extremely unfunny. He doesn't deserve to be #1 or even in the top 10.
@CoolerKing37 More the fact that he did no work in Britain, and is mostly known in Britain after his death. He's amazing, and in my personal ranking would be higher, but in a British top 100 you can see why he'd be lower.
It's REALLY hard to rank 100 comedians in order, since everybody has a different sense of humour, also, I wouldn't say the order of this list matters until it gets to 10, its just merely showing you 100 different great comedians.
The problem is this a British comedy list, and George Carlin has a VERY American style, which isn't really as funny to a lot of British people. A shame, he's brilliant.
@Alloflifedecays dude i dont think its that, Im a Brit and i had to find George Carlin stand-up online, over here most people in Britain think he was an actor as the only exposure they had to George was the movies he was in, you have to ask yourself if a lot of Americans cant afford HBO, how exactly are Brits gonna view it? he pretty much did HBO specials every year which only really broadcasts in the U.S, i however thought George was one of the best standups of all time
The whole rating system on this post it fucked up. Peter Kay better than Carling!!!! are you fucking joking. Makes you wonder what type of fuck-wits took part in the poll. Peter Kay is just not funny. Year after year the same old shit act as the year before. Carling was intelligent and made you think and question yourself in the grand scheme of things. Peter Kay just kept on rehashing the same crap talking about his Gran and weddings he was fucking dreadful.
@blahman20 dude its not a sense of humour its a knowledge of comedians, we could say the same about an american list where say bob monkhouse wont get a play, and he really is funny. and i dont want to start an argument but we kinda did invent and propagate comedy in the english speaking world, pretty much by definition. so dont get on the brits for their choice
Carlin should of been in the top10 at least, i dread to think where Bill Hicks is placed in this, who ever created this list must of given it out to be marked by those in the UK only.
If George Carlin fans were as intelligent as they clearly think they are, they'd realize that there's no point placing any stock at all in such an arbitrary list...
I stopped watching this stupid list when I found out George Carlin was rated #62. It just tells you how ignorant the douche bags who made the list are.
I watched this backwards. At this point, I was absolutely sure that I had skipped George Carlin by mistake, surely he wouldn't be out of the top 20. Surely. Number 62........ARE YOU KIDDING ME!? Beyond absurd. Carlin is the man. He's virtually unknown in Great Britain, therefore, Andrew Dice Clay is greater than him. Jesus titty fucking Christ, what a catastrophe. Oh well, it goes both ways I suppose. I've seen American lists that don't give Izzard and Connolly half the respect they deserve.
Where the fuck is Izzard on this list anyway? Carlin should be in at least the top 5, so should Eddie. Connolly is definitely the best stand up of all time.
he's so low becasue this is an english show and as they said he's a virtual unknown so i mean if this was an american program he'd be in the top ten and the european comics wouldnt even be on it
For all those stressing over Carlin don't sweat it. Over the years he'll climb the list i'm sure. And fuck it anyway comedy is subjective. As long as he makes you laugh and think about life great. As Bill Hicks said to please everyone is impossible.
I've never found George Carlin particularly hilarious. Perhaps it's an American thing, but i find profanity latent rants are only funny in moderation. In Carlin's case, it consisted the bulk of his act.
It's obviously not an "American thing." If I'm not mistaken, Bill Hicks (who was very much influenced by Carlin) is in the Top 10 on this list and is very popular in the U.K. Hicks used far more profanity than Carlin, and if you think Carlin's act was just profanity you haven't listened to very much of his work.
I feel Bill Hicks is also overrated. A lot of his material was rehashed and i personally didn't find the content of it exceptionally riveting or enlightening. He was a decent stand up, but there has been this cult of personality created around him and he gets treated more like a philosopher than a comedian, which is fucking stupid.
@koolaidman The list was compiled by a vote of the British public. Many of the great American comedians on the list got little exposure in our country and the fact that they appear in the list at all probably has to do with connosseurs or YouTube. Now all of you must know how we feel when our great TV shows and stars are unheard of outside of the UK.
@marshfly I completely agree that 62 is just pathetic for Carlin. It's too stupid to even bother with, but I do think Carlin is more of a commentator than a standup. His importance outweighs his laughability in my opinion. Although his wordplay is freakishly good. Peter Kaye sucks.
@marshfly Yeah, I starting watching these videos because I initially thought it was the list comedy central put out and made a video for...in that one Carlin is number 2, much more fitting.
