A Beautiful tribute for a legendary bandmaster. Although I've been a musician all my life, I've only become aware of Mr. Hampton's legacy in recent years. I'm honored that you chose an arrangement from my band as the musical backdrop. To be affiliated with anything regarding this man's legacy is an extreme honor not to be taken lightly.
I'm am not a member of this band but I have always wanted and still wants to be a member there is so much creativity in this band who thinks of these old school songs to play this for this high school marching band I would listen to this band all day even before southern!!! Purple knights marching 100.
YO...I went to the K, and I just wanna wish MR.HAMPTON a PEACEFULL REST.
We talked a lotta crap through the years to each other but I just wanted to let y'all boys know I gotta lot of respect for y'all mann...Thanks 4 the MEMORIES.....c/o 2000
ST.Aug VS. Kennedy best high school battle The N.O. had....y'all be cool man..I'm out!!
Mr. Hampton, was not only the greatest marching band director in the history of New Orleans high schools, he was the maker of black men during troubling times. If anyone remembers our first year in the Catholic league you will remember how he taught us how to stand up to racism, with dignity, and to emerge victorious through excellence.
Thanks for the tribute...it is lovely. We are a Purpleknight family..we miss Hamp.
This Mardi Gras won't be the same without seeing him in the car in front of the band. My son is in the band now, he says this year, he's playing even harder for Hamp.
I don't think the focus of this tribute is the band, but a remeberence of a great individual whom in the face of so much trial and tribulation lead a group of young boys through the streets of New Orleans setting a new tone and marking history forever. Very nice tribute. R.I.P Mr. Hamp!!! Thank you for the lessons you though so many of us through your illustrious career. Thank you for your bravery!!
Thanks Mr. Hamp. for being the man that you where. We the brothers of The Marching 100 will always remember you and the times we spent together. We love you and are proud to have been your CHAMPS.
Yes, it's NCAT. My husband sent out many emails requesting St. Aug. music but no responses as of yet. I had this piece available and thought it was a good substitue. If anyone has St. Aug. music to share, please let me know.
I wish I had some music to give you guys, but unfortunately everything I had was washed away by Katrina. However, you might want to reach out to Ray Johnson (ex-assistant band director), because he is the one that recorded us in the studio set up.
RIP Mr. Hamp. Can someone please tell me who is playing the medley, because if this is St. Aug I am extremely excited about the upcoming school year. These cats sound very good. In fact, I'd dare to say that they sound like a college.
Thank you Mr. Hampton. Being a Drum Major for you was one of the greatest honors I have ever received or carried in my life! Your influence in my life and the lives of all my Marching 100 brothers will NEVER be forgotten! "1-2 Bastard, Here We Go Band, Stand Ready.....Forward.....MARCH!!"
Truly beautiful...we lost a true legend. Whoever doesn't believe there are angels on earth might want to think again!! Sleep well...job well done Mr. Hampton.
