laid off wall street yupipies can become toilet attendants or join the miliatry and become latrine queens, kitchen police, motor pool, or drive a truck in iraq, or work the line and become a target in that shooting gallery.
hah I had forgotten that this was even around. I think it's a little presumptuous to judge whether I was happy (or not) through an "off the cuff" recording! I enjoy my work and, trust me, the day I stop doing so, I'll find something else more fulfilling to do - same should go for everything else.
not much don't worry about it. make sure that you are concerned about the firms bottom line not you're money, because they don't give a damn about you.
In london a grad to Front Office will take 30-40k + bonuses, some legend may may upto six-figures inc bonus but thats rare, and going to become more so in this climate.

Hey bkkcho, my name's Sam and I believe I have what it takes to become a succesful investment banker. my only main question is that does one have to become an anaylst and then move to an associate? or can one jump into one of these roles straight away?
please take it into account that I am only 16 years old.
just some knowledge about me, I'm not just a kid who just wants £££,I already have a very good track record using my father's and other relative's money. so I have experience at this age.
haha you're just 16? I think having that kind of drive and focus at your age is half the battle won - endurance and tenacity counts for a lot.
Most start off as analysts before moving upward depending on product, best route is to join a graduate scheme or if you can, get as much working experience through internships as possible.
Once you're in the game, the rest will be autopilot, my friend.
Thanks for the reply :). I'm sure most IB's won't take me on at th emoment because of my age but I am hoping to get into one for an internship. Also I was wondering which country you work in, my assumption is America. Lastly, are contacts very necessary? thank's again.
You wont see the doors of an IB without a degree and a solid resume
Get your foot in the door in retail banking, this will help alot. Do your degree while working for a retail bank (as a teller, or consultant). When you come out you may be able to get an internship if you excelled. Having a MBA will help you a lot. An internship is very hard work and the next step will be Junior Analyst.
It's a very tough road, but if you know what you want to do with life at 16 that is a bonus.
Would you also say it is an advantage that I am 16 years of age and already know a great deal about the global markets, and I am regularly trading using both real and virtual monies. Last month (June) I made accumilated a of £21,825.85, through trading on the FX and FTSE100. I started that month with £2000.
I've been doing it for 9 months now, I've actually amassed a small fortune for myself :) (nearly 6 figures GBP) I trade technically short term most of the time aswell, and have a few holdings Buffet style :)
But I also look forward to work, and I am very keen in the global financial markets especially equity and commodities. I'm not going to say I think i'll enjoy working long hours and what not but I think i'll be able to do it, and most days now apart from weekend I only get 6-7 hour sleep because of studying and sports.
I noticed most of the ambitious people come fro Abroad. I live in Canada and not many people here have the ambition like you do. They just want a job to make them go by. Something made me think you were originally South Asian.
I am originally from Bangladesh but live in Canada. I am a 20 year old Student at Ryerson University. I ran 2 businesses so far. I owned a Franchise and also owned my own importing exporting company. I'm just having trouble choosing between Finance and Global management Major. I'm a hard working guy that loves to travel and meet new people. I am also very good with numbers and money. Which Major would you recommend for me?

Pleasure. Although 7 months ago, the climate looked very different, I wish you good fortune with your future endeavours.

The fellow in this vid didnt seem very happy really. Whats the point of earning lots of £££ if you're not going to be happy?
It seems banking might not be a very good profession to work in at all actually!
