Any advice on how to set the amp? I've had a reissue Deluxe reverb for the past 2 years, and gigged with her non-stop and I fight her nightly to get my tone right. Shes a good amp, and I love it todeath but what are your prefered settings?
Skydog46@ would you like to send me the recipe to these pickups modifications over message? Hearing these pickups is tempting me to try out when i can :)
Anyone ever notice how people move their mouth when they play. It's like their music is their voice. When I use a wah my mouth really starts moving lol
Hi, I recently put my PUps out of phase turning the magnet under the neck picup. It sounds pretty good, but the tone is slightly different from yours. Does it depend much on the pickups? My les paul's got 490R-498T, they're not the best, I know...
I believe (from memory, having seen him play around 40 times 1966-70) that he used a Marshall 50 watt head with a 4 x 12 cabinet, then a Hi-Watt head, then sometimes a Vox AC 50 which often broke down...In 1968-9 he and Danny Kirwan used Orange gear (in order to endorse it) then Fender Twins. I hope this helps!
Best wishes to all fans of Greeny and Duster Bennett - the real blues brothers!
They used Fenders pretty much exclusively in the States...except for a tour where they used the Orange and the Matamp. Peter and Danny both used 1969 Dual Showman Reverb heads....Danny into 2, 2X15 JBL cabs, and Peter through 2 or 3, 2X12 Fender cabs with Oxfords. Jeremy used a 1969 Fender Twin with JBL's.
Cracking stuff. part of the sound we hear (on this broadcast)is the actual pick attack acoustically coming from his gtr being picked up by the gun mic on the camera.the amp is not that loud.compare with his voice which he does not particularly raise.nice licks xxxxxxxxxxxx
Charlie Daniels had a nice out of phase sound on his LesPaul...Saddletramp is a good example. Everybody thinks Charlie just played the fiddle...they don't play his guitar stuff on radio.
Yeah, but most of those licks with that great tone were played by Peter through a Selmer amp with a Marshall speaker cabinet. Until Fleetwood Mac switched to Orange early 1969.
hi Skydog46, Would the Fender 65 deluxe reverb be good for clean jazzy tones? i know that it brakes up pretty quickly but couldn't i get a more powerful speaker to stop it from breaking up so soon or change the tubes? if not what fender amp do you recommend?
Excellent playing and a really convincing PG tone. Nailing that vibrato is a bitch ain't it! The only way I found to get a real wide fast PG vibrato is to bend down and kinda let the string do the work-but this only works on the G string for whole tone bends.
I'd love to do that with my main guitar but, unfortunately, my '57 Junior reissue is missing a couple of vital ingredients...
Actually, dude, you have a lot of great licks at your disposal, and, a nice pair of PAF pickups too. You might want to consider sending them along to me out here.
I was feeling cranky last night and my worst half got the better of me. I apologize.
Been there done that. There's nothing worse than getting one of those surprise YouTube email replies and you think "Hmm, I wonder what I said". Then you go back and see what you wrote... So embarrassing. I've got a few posted apologies under my belt as well. Damn alcohol. Why don't they just leagalize weed already? Then the YouTube hateration will cease!
It does sound a little compressed, but the overall tone and playing is excellent. I don't have the stones to post my stuff on line so good for you buddy.
Are you using a compressor or is the out of phase thing giving you that effect? I have put push-pull pots in wired for out of phase but never got that that sound.
I bought a les paul and sure enough the pick ups were installed wrong. I hate that cheezy middle position tone. im geeting the magnets flipped back soon. It sounds like a cheezy fender strat....those things have sustain of a banjo!

i don't know what's wrong w/ my squier strat- cheap ass fender, supposedly twangy single coil tones- i can make it sound like this w/ the flip of a switch, can make it sound like a normal LP too. hey, i didn't say what was wrong w/ it was bad, did i?
dude, i highly HIGHLY HIGHLY doubt that! i'm known amongst my friends for getting really good tone out of whatever i play and i had a squire a while back and couldn't get any decent tones out of it whatsoever.
well, you probably got a bad one. i have played many a fender and many a squier (that's how you spell it) and i've never been able to replicate my tone. I don't know, it's just one of those special one in the world guitars like pearly gates or pete's LP
i obviously dont know enough about guitars (even though i play) because i have no idea what you are talking about. as far as im concerned, its an LP, SG, or another gibson. lol
uh..i believe (but am no expert) an R8 is a '58 reissue..an R9 is a 1959 reissue..i suppose their respective electronics and neck shapes make them unique...but im too poor to know from experience. arent we all?
the dynamics ive noticed in other musicians as well

Hey how do you like the Deluxe Reverb vs. the Pro Reverb?

Ah, and I really don't mean to offend... but you must work on your bends. They're not quite hitting the pitch!

@evilotto77cheese I agree with you, that's irritating to hear them just not quite make it to the note!

That was great playing. Get the amp closer to the mic and crank it up a bit to get the tubes cranking, you have an awesome sound.

Really sweet sound, not to talk about the Deluxe Reverb and the R9!
Just one question, as I'm more kind of a player than a tech, do you have to do like any welding or such to do the P.Green mod?

Nope. Just slide the magnet out and turn it over and slide it back in!!!
