  • I love Videos of the old games that we loved so much. They were great even without perfect graphics. Simply, because it was new. Thanks for Railroad Tycoon, I had fun with it for months.

  • Lol at 0:32... Omg this game is nes 8-bit style... Im going to download Trainz Simulator 12 (2012) right now.

  • I miss the original Railroad Tycoon. I have version 2 but I haven't bothered to install it on my new computer. The graphics are better, but it's harder to build and play.

With my long time interest in model trains I always enjoyed matching up industries and raw materials for instance. I found version two to be harder to use.

  • I think Railroad Tycoon 2 is on of the only games that sid meier didn't put his name on. Was he ashamed of it or something? Either that, or did the developers shift?

  • LOL! At 0:32 The gp38 git owned by the challenger!

  • I never knew what to do with this game.

I never owned the game, it was an old hand-me-down when I got it and I couldn't always get the engines/trains guessed right (DRM, I hate you!!)

So I just played 'train set' via the computer and probably failed hardcore. Laughably so too, I suspect.

  • I remember this too. Was tons of fun, the game still is but it is interesting how even this early version didn't need graphics to be totally immersive. I spent hours on it!

  • @tsalam Hours?? I spent weeks!!

  • i played it and i hated it so much

  • Looks like NES Graphics D:

  • @mrbean21311

Don't be rude its a game from the late 80s. Sid meier spent a long time on this at the start of all tycoons. He is the person who designed a couple of the civilization series games. The best one being IV and V

  • what are the names of these songs?

  • i loved this game! in later versions better graphics but they never could replace it.

  • Say, what sound hardware are you running this on? When I run it on mine (I think I use the "Roland" selection in setup) It sounds like everything is MIDI. Even the train chuffs and whistles... Sounds kinda cool actually...

  • This has bad graphics and looks boring Rail Road tycoon 3 is way better lol

  • @MVRTA108 gtfo

  • Brings back memories, this is the first game i ever played on a PC :)

  • ok... this is gonna sound extremely stupid, but how the hell do i start building tracks???

  • wtf this aint Sid Meier's Railroad Tycoon!.... ha ha ha ha ha THe Diesel loco got pushed backward by steam loco O_O EPIC STRONG STEAM LOCO!!

  • does anyone know how to build double tracks in this game ???

  • @Pr34ch I think you should hold shift. But I guess you've figured it out by now.

  • @marous91 yes i did ! thnx anyway

  • it's the first tycoon i think but it's a little boring with this graphics

  • This on an Atari STe for the win.

  • In my opinion Half Life 2 was better.

  • I've had every version of this. Couldn't you have the full USA on this version. My PC would struggle with too many trains. This version was better than the later ones although I seem to recall it was a bit too clever about what you could deliver where.

Nice some of you played at 4 or 5, I was 45.

  • wat year was this released?

  • 1990

  • i swear! this was my favourite game when i was about 6

  • I have the deluxe edition.

  • we had this never worked

  • what's all this talk about the manual.. My brother and I just figured it all out.. except laying double tracks instead of single, I think :p I just LOVED the intro featuring all the trains, and especially the end when the 4-6-6-4 mallet pushed the red locomotive off the screen.. I never saw that red one in a game, though..

  • lol ! this version i was playng to my pc 486! The begins of tycoon!

  • this game started the tycoon series of games. it was a big achievement to create such a complex game of this magnitude back in the day.

    respect.

  • @RolleRRATM Yeah, 2&3 were awesome too, so was Railroads, but it's a shame no one's making a great rail strategy game currently, and also Sid's Railroads needed so much more development and support..

I still play RT2, over a decade after its release!

  • @murrangurk

It was nice in Sid's Railroads that you could make nice visual extensions to the stations. The graphics were pretty too, but the game was a little bit rushed, so the gameplay was simplified. The economy of the game was too automated, and there were only a limited ammount of cargo types you could transport. I see it as a good demo of a game that wasnt finished.

Nice to see some games that is not just killing and shooting, and its not The Sims.

    have fun Murrangruk !

  • I got this game as a present while in Junior High. I played this every day after school. This was in 1992 or 1993. Everyone of my friends would be playing Nintendo or SNES, I was the only one who has a PC at that time. I remember spending hours on this.

I used to skip homework just to play this. I played from the time I got off the bus, until I had to go to sleep.

  • I remember Playing this game when I was about 4 to 5.

  • But where did you find it?

  • The only thing that sucked about this game, was the fact, that you had to open your manual every time to identify the train.

  • @Solifluktion every game back then had copy protection, or nearly everyone

  • best game ever! i just downloaded it again after 15 years, and played with ii the whole day.

  • I bought a software pack in 1993 for the Amiga 1200 that featured four programs, this being one of them. The first time I attempted to play it, I just gave up. Then one afternoon in the summer of 1994, I had another go and got the grasp for it. I was soon hooked. I stayed up all night and were still playing well into the next day without a break. It gave me several years of enjoyment thereafter. My favourite scenario was Europe 1900. Train from Minsk to Madrid anyone? Loved it.

  • I tried this game after 2 and 3, and quite frankly, I found it unplayable. Classic: Yes, Fun: no.

  • You kinda' have to have the manual.

  • this game is LEG!!!!! i cant bilive i lost it =( yes it old but it just leg

  • This game is almost like the one for the Nintendo DS

  • i have the second one and i used to play it when i was little

  • This is the Commodore Amiga version, I used to spend hours on this game lol.

  • music lol

  • sid meier's a genious

  • this game looks good i wanna play it

  • Oh my.

    This is so retro~!

  • I LOVE this game...I had it on my computer when I was a kid...along with Oregon Trail and Sim Farm...I spent hours playing them!

  • OREGON TRAIL... memories...

  • i loved this game

  • I've got this game on my Amiga 500. I'm guessing this is the PC version.

MAN, it's hillarious how much worse the PC versions of games were back then compared to the powerhouse Amiga.

  • This is the original version, isn't it? I used to have it, but that was like 14 years ago. Still remember the names of the trains, though. :D

I can't find this version anywhere. I can find the Deluxe version, but I want this one!!!

  • hahaha......so cool :D

  • bad graphics but its an old game so i dont blame it

  • Well ehe a bit different from the 3 yes. And by the way on my computer the game (railroad tycoon 3) somethimes doesent work. Even if i have on safe mode. any1 know what the problem migth be?

  • its has changed from to first the the thirds lol alot

  • download this game at the sid meiers railroads website for free for 14.2 MB!

  • and to think i used to have this game

  • boring

  • Can you upload any animations from this game? They sure are funny. :)

  • You had to love cga grafics. I still have that game. I dont think I have the book for the copy protection though.

  • :) Thanks for this, I always wanted to see how the original looked.
