  • Thank you for what you gave to Humanity Gil : consiousness and pleasure

  • @dawkinsfaith you must be my twin bro i agree peace

  • R.I.P. Gil! I remember starting several Sunday brunches with Cognac-coctails with you down @ 'Mr. D's' in Zurich, in the early 90's, whilst you were teaching me English...you were a fairly good teacher, a wonderful poet, an awesome musician and a flirty dirty old man ;-)...thank you for all the good times and the CDs'!!!!

  • I know we all have seen it but may have not made the connection but there is a spirit the comes along with being an artist of any kind...and that is addiction (not always of course)...and so we have to love and appreciate these people for who they are and how they make us feel...and speak well of them because they have a big enough cross to bear...and they don't need out negative talk. Rest in peace Gil.

    Ashe!

  • RIP My brother.

  • Rest in Peace Tears are falling

  • R.I.P.

  • This man was a Hero to me. He spoke truth to power and made music that changed the way so many of us viewed the world. I owe him much of my political mindset including my NEED to speak out against injustice. You will be missed, but your music will continue to inspire. RIP GSH.

  • RIP Gil We Will Miss You!! Thank you for the good music!!

  • Rip!! We Will Miss You!!! Thank you for the good endless music!!

  • R.I.P Gil Scott. Sorely Missed. We Won't Forget You.

  • Rest in peace, you underrated Genius !!!!!!

  • GIL SCOTT HERON DIED IN MAY 2011 R.I.P.

  • Today we've lost another one of our lights. We lost a revolutionary, instead of a sycophant; another poet, instead of a pundit; another artist, instead of a politician.

We've lost another light, decades after most of us forgot he was still shining. We've lost another artist who refused to "Plug in, turn on, and cop out", and never prostituted himself to the confederacy of mass media pimps for an audience.

Where are our revolutionaries, poets, and artists of today?!

    RIP Gil-Scott Heron.

  • @nafdar6 Well said!!

  • @nafdar6 where are they? just do a search on twerk team.

  • REST IN POWER GIL SCOTT HERON! Forever alive through his music

  • the world and the weight of it is tremendous on the free soul. the flesh weakens its ability to live to its potential. a great mind like Gil whose suffering and understanding of Black life in america was something he never tried to escape w/ success, but with questioning why it was still the same? after all those brilliant words not a damn thing changed. Gil was hurt...RIP we love u Gil Scott bless u. Ashe. We will carry ur words 4ever.

  • Rest in Peace dear Gil! I'll miss your voice, your light and your love for your people. Gil was a great great voice for reflection.

  • Gone but not forgotten!

  • RIP Gil; bless you and your music..

  • RIP Gil!!! You're right the Revolution Will Not Be Televised!

  • i miss gil already. he had a lot of words left in him.

  • RIP. Very sad day :(

  • @57Moon I hold nothing against my man Gil. He hurt himself more, and I missed him greatly. Oh, this human condition vexes even the greatest among us. And might I say, even God. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

  • @Wrightthang He's admitted it and that's MORE than enough for me. Forgiveness is Divine... * none of us is WITHOUT Sin...including myself. However, though it has been forever, though we only had memories of messages and poems and inspiration and education.....it is WONDERFUL to have his voice and Mind and Being back amongst us!!! I'm so hoping to see him once again:)

  • fuck it, there aint no superman... I believe lol. :)

  • @Wrightthang we are all addicted to SOMETHING. Gil siad some great things & inspired many. Can we all say the same? Love&Light

  • Yea Baby This is the Shit

  • @roscoegino, that is really good to hear. I did not know that. I will look for it. I have always had a lot of love and respect for Gil. Even his new stuff hits home and it is so sad, but the genius is there, which makes it even more heartbreaking. I keep wondering what his treatment of W. would have been or even President Obama.

  • @Wrightthang Oh he certainly has. There was an interview he did for British TV in which he admitted he had a problem with crack-cocaine. He was brutally honest and never made any of those cheap promises addicts make. It has since been taken off YouTube.

  • @roscoegino Gil was up front with his addiction, there is no need to ask this brother for any apologies or excuses. A brother with his mind and insight to this world and living in it as a black individual during his time and hell even today is enough to make any brother or sister give in to the temptations of some altered reality cause this one is fucked! Unless of course, you aspire to capitalistic greed, corruption, lies, deceit and the false agenda of "Merika"!. AIn't no dam superman.

  • @roscoegino ...People are people and everyone has a vice.Yeah he was weak to the Rea-Gun ish, but his music lives on for teaching and prophecy.

  • @dawkinsfaith Don't hold back. Let it all out.

  • this was the jam. wore out 1st minute of the new day. pick a song any song on this album and Dayum...but 'superman' and 'guerilla' had swagger. 'there ain't no i can fly'. glad to see gil coming back.

  • mmmm thats goood

  • heard bout this dude, didnt know he sang tho. Really didnt. MAN! Im late

  • Ever notice how whitey scared to make superman again

since the unfortunate tragic accident of Christopher Reeves.

that character won`t be played ever again.wanna bet?

  • @Junior1luv Well they made one in 2006 and they're making one in 2012. I'll take your bet though.

  • @Junior1luv Most ridiculous comment of the day so far. You win a Special Prize. Because you're special.

  • the Grand father of Rap & a great poet & campaigner

  • I am white, middle class and I was brought up in London. England. I have loved this guy ( have all his work vinyl/CD ) because he ' touched me'.....sometimes those who think black, green, white etc forget humanity, soul , love and emotion.

  • @swoon57 yeah, only white people remember Gil. (non-sarcasm)

  • I remember the first time I heard Gil Scott. Man it was like 3 or 4 years ago. I was only 25 years old but the message I heard from him was so true it was humbling and it really played a major role in freeing my own mind from "the matrix". When I found out how old he was and when he first came out with this it struck me as damn. He is defintely ahead of time.

  • Any hate comments toward any religion or people will be removed. Just 'preciate the music, people.

    One

  • @roscoegino Hatred is a state of mind acted out physically. Religion is having faith in someone / something that we cannot touch, smell, hear or see. But we can feel. And what we feel is the energy that is a positive life force, our soul. To dis a religious belief is akin to being prejudice; AFRAID of the unknown. Hatred of our fellow being is a derivative of that same fear. Fear not that they are better than us. Fear, that we haven't developed ourselves to be a better person in life. Bless You.

  • Gil for President

  • Oh so true Gil. good luck to ya dude.

  • This song takes me in a higher ground.

  • @dawkinsfaith Amen brother.

  • This is the history of my people

  • @tmoore0917 The history of blacks is that they are often their first and worst betrayers. In the end they fall for the propaganda and still look for their own 'superman' or 'superwoman--witness Gil Scott's Heron own fall as he goes with a white woman only to have her betray him later and tells all his biz to a court. Maybe Gil should read between the lines instead of sniffing lines and sniffing between certain legs?

  • why i i i i hi hi ii i i ! lol!

  • Thank you Gil Scott Heron for boycotting Israel's apartheid! He has canceled his tour of Israel because of its humiliating occupation and apartheid against Palestinian people! South African apartheid fell, so will Israel's apartheid!

  • @optimistsRUS And where are all the Jews that used to live in the Arab-speaking countries?

  • @ethanedwards420

If you have been living under a rock, the Israeli government has subsidized the migration of Jews from all around the world to Israel, a policy that continues today, anyone born anywhere in the world to a Jewish mother has the right to Israeli citizenship, they have more rights than the native non-Jews who have been living in the land of Palestine for centuries.

Read Naeim Giladi's book "The Jews of Iraq," the Zionists murdered Jews to force them out of Arab countries.

  • I write this article for the same reason I wrote my book: to tell the American people, and especially American Jews, that Jews from Islamic lands did not emigrate willingly to Israel; that, to force them to leave, Jews killed Jews; and that,

to buy time to confiscate ever more Arab lands, Jews on numerous occasions

rejected genuine peace initiatives from their Arab neighbors.

I write about what the first prime minister of Israel called "cruel Zionism." I write about it because I was part of it.

  • this joint is so real...

  • Do anyone know you's playing that awsesome sax?

  • @vogeliusmorten ...if i'm not mistaken its Brian Jackson....

  • Not just a great musician, but a great man, and a great American. You won't find a man of this caliber in the ivory halls of Washington.

  • freshman year in high school man played the hell out of gill scott heron

  • Hero's don't look like they just woke up,it's 4 seasons, and some live one are all in order, are not, living life as a unwanted guest and taxed for everything i touch?

  • Word brother

  • I saw this dude once in a shitty pub in New Cross, London! Walked in ruff as on a Sunday afternoon, heard the funky vibe, says to PJ - 'who's this?', & PJ says 'Gil Scott Heron.' Then he says 'its five quid.' 'Yeah, yeah' I says & walked right by him. Scoped out the live room & there he was - Gil. He was a bit old & ragged & he had to sit down while playing but the vibe, that old school funky vibe tore the house down. Me & the rest of the pond life in the Goldsmiths Tavern were treated that day.

  • True hero, imperfect yes, and still a true hero.

  • That's how I like my heroes, flawed.

  • true. not perfect and not corrupt but flawed.

  • @roscoegino word!

  • The poetry. Wow. I always feel a funky soul healing when ever the super Gil has a word. He knows nobody has it under control. This song says it all...tight!

  • gil scott-heron & brian jackson are supermen of music.....no doubts!!!!

  • a man of all decades to be reckoned with

  • I see his music still evokes the passion of days thought to be long gone.

  • Yeah . . . found a lot of Gil's stuff tonight. Sweet stuff. Love this dude.

  • Brother Gil says they're aint no such thing as a Superman. He's the Superman. Will always be to me. The message is all in his music. This is truly a great man. A Superman.

  • Cant be your superman...if there aint no such thang as a superman...

  • damn, this is funky

  • fuuuunnnnkyyyy!

  • Great groove!

  • HOT DAAAAAAAAYUM!! IT GETS NO BETTER.

  • the bassline is beautiful

  • ..There Ain't no I can fly! Like no bird in the Sky! ..Ain't no you gonna get yours somethin like I got mine!..There ain't No SUPERMAN!!

    Preach!!!

  • soken word from brother gil scott hero(n)!

  • This is still true today.

Thanks for post GSH's works. I'm glad to see that there are folks who still appreciate him.

  • sure would have loved to see Marvin Gaye with Gil and the Midnight Band. Gotta love both these guys.

  • Their ain't no such thing as a superpower either. It's all about control through conquer & divide. Our window of opportunity is not the consciousness that Kissinger is anticipating either cos he may be old but he's still got his bag of tricks! The power is in all people & let no govt, race, nor religion divide us! Unbeknownst to humanity, peaceably living is in our hands to decide! We have freewill & choice but we must want it so to be from within our hearts and minds & the way will be open!

  • best song ever

  • It seems that I am getting a 3 week habit on answering my comments. My favorite things by Gil is the work he did with the Mid-Night Band. Notably "The Last Poets" because this is the original RAP and the ones listening to Rap today are not familiar with it. That is a little sad to me. We have abandoned our roots and gone commercial. Anything to sale. Jazz is the genre prefer along with Gospel, Blues and some ragga.

    Power to our people

  • Thanks for posting. Gil and I went to Sunday School togather in Jackson, TN. Man did he ever come out. In the 60s and 70s I listened to him all the time and now I happy the find him here.

    Power to Our People

  • you welcome. i bet he had an awareness of things even then.

  • great to hear that again, thanks for posting

  • welcome...

  • real.og

  • STILL AN INSPIRATION TO ME

  • Gil flows so good Dig That

  • I love this man
