Volkswagen however still is a German company, headquartered in Germany, run (and owned) by Germans. Furthermore, there is no Volkswagen manufacturing plant in Canada (but one that belongs to Opel). German engineering??? It's not enough that it is a ridiculous and stupid commercial, but it is not German engineered at all. It's just not! It is a Chrysler mini-van with a new interior and sheet metal. This is pretty sad since, while Chrysler brought back the mini-van craze with the Caravan in 1984, it was Volkswagen who originated the idea with the Micro-Bus in the 1950's. Apparently the VW technicians are having some difficulty with these as they are tooled to work on VW cars, not Chryslers.
I just laugh every time I see a ad like this, like anyone would actually buy this as it's just a dressed up Chyrsler T & C. But what makes me mad is that Volkswagen is trying to compete with Honda and Toyota. Especially with the fact that they're replacing the Jetta and Passat with "Americanized" cars.

I'm an American who lives in Germany. A German acquaintance who was visiting New York City last week and saw this commercial cued me into searching for it—and I found it here on YouTube. Repeated artificial insemination treatments each time for each of her two children? Laughter is the best medicine! Please don't take offense but once you have lost your ability to laugh even after the worst of times you have lost everything...I think that's why Brooke who has been through plenty of misery herself chose to do these commercials. Having already had a near death experience I hope I go out laughing with my friends all laughing with me! This commercial is mocking the self-righteous attitudes of people on 'the left' who tend to look down their nose at materialistic consumption, corporate logos, etc. The underlying message: don't feel guilty or shallow about buying a van, even though you are, in fact, a materialistic douchebag.

When I first saw these commercials, I was like, "What's up with Brooke Shields and Volks?" I though she was having another of her postpartum episodes again... but then after a while I found these commercials funny. Its the kind of humor that slowly builds up on you. I like Brooke Shields so much. She's great.

This marketing campaign is completely idiotic and makes zero sense. I feel bad that Volkswagen bought off on this totally stupid idea. It is painful to watch. I am embarrassed for them. I wretch in physical abdominal pain, much like getting a gut punch. The person who signed off on this monstrosity should be fired for selling zero product. I will never approach volkswagen ever again as a potential customer for insulting my intelligence so badly with this fake useless marketing campaign.

Are people who are criticizing this for being insensitive to couples with fertility problems - unaware that Brooke Shields went through rather well-publicized issues with fertility? Repeated artificial insemination treatments each time for each of her two children? I have no idea why anyone would find these commercials insensitive (it's crazy) but I think it's also defused by using Brooke Shields in them. She always projected such warmth - even when she's trying to be coldly analytical!

Wonderful - and I think Brooke Shields is the only one who could pull it off because she's such a pleasure to look at, seems so kind, charming, and is so famous now for being a mother.
Volkswagen may be over-confident about the appeal of the phrase "German engineering" to a century of Americans raised with World War I and II movies.
But the commercials are very amusing - and that's rare with car commercials. In the end, most are like me - we'd quite like Brooke Shields in anything!

It seems a rather ineffective commercial, but I suppose it links the mini-van to family. And I guess you here the word german engineering enough to assume it's good, & that your family can depend on it, or so they claim.
The problem is I haven't seen the full 5 min. version on TV, just short excerpts which make the commerial more confusing.
