They come from Vietnam, El Salvador, Guatemala, African countries, the US, and even from the Mexican gov't. Dont just think they are coming from the states, the only ones that are coming from the states are Barrets and some semi auto guns. Most FA guns are coming from south of Mexico. Same with Grenades and M203s and such.

However if the U.S. sends more Patrol,the flow of drugs would decrease,which would make it more hard for the dealer and the user to get their hands on the stuff. When i say decrease,I mean that more drugs being transported would be stopped. Guns and drugs do come from Mexico (not all) but a lot of it does. So the U.S. must doing what they can to to increase security on the border.
