There was a time when I thought this kind of music was lame. But then I grew up and do anything but marvel at the composition and the kind of playing that is on this video. Hurray for Utube so that we can all hear high quality performances from all over the planet.
awesome! I don't like the bass trombone doubling the tuba (this is coming from a bass trombone player! xP) it doesn't sound right... and maybe a bit more horn and tuba would be nice. But awesome job! i wish I could play it that well
It's great to hear a great horn player! Don't hear a lot of them anymore. The Euphonium solo was filled in pretty good, not the same feeling, but great.
Bravo guys - I played this for the first time in my life in college at age 17 and have continued to play it off and on my entire life. Today is Christmas Eve morning and hearing this was the best Christmas present ever. You can't imagine all the memories you stirred up.
played this in high school in 1971 or 2. I still know the whole dang thing... we recorded it on those old big black round things. :-) wonderful piece... Tons of fun to play... before class a few would start it and pretty soon everyone was just playing it together.
where can you get an arrangement of that?

Different from the wind ensemble version--some very nice voicings which I did not know before. Terrific!!

This is a very good group....and yes, this piece, as most of the Holst I've played, is beautiful and brings back memories.

Very true; was my solo when I played it 7 years ago in high school and was a little disappointed to hear a trombone playing it ;-)

@mike71085 Agreed, seeing it done by a trombone is abit disappointing. was my solo 7, or 8 years ago as well in high school.
