Mirza Ghalib (27 December 1797— 15 February 1869) aaj bhi sub per ghalib hain.
Today is his birthday, i would love to share this eternally charming Ghazal with friends on youtube and face book. Happy birthday to all Ghalib lovers.
although I love the composition .. but .. jaghjit goes wrong with the pronunciation yeah masail-e-tasawuf jaghjeet says yeah masali-e-tazawuf dont expect these kind of mistakes from a renowned singer like him
tasawuf ---- is from the word sufi .. means saint hood
@gamagehemaratne - This is Mirza Ghalib of l9th century whose verses occupy the maximum attention by singers even today ! Even otherwise, whatever Jagjit Singh hums becomes melodious even sans accompanying instruments.
I love your comment..kash sabhi indian and pakistani aisa sonchten...india and pak music aur sangeet ka khajana hai...kash hum ek hoke sonchne lage..ek aawaz mein gungunaye.....AMEN...iM INDIAN..
Jagjit is eternal. His voice has mellowed with age..so much so that every word is a pure drop of honey...moreover he has the panache to hold the attention of the audience with is witty humor at times, which suddenly energises the audience... His compilation of the ghazals of Ghalib is his massive landmark, and he has stamped his authority in his trademark manner. After all, now Naseeruddin Shah is synonymous with Ghalib and thereafter Jagjit Singh.....!!!
My dear Pashtonkhan Sahib, what a remarkable comment you have passed and won my heart. I would like you to be my friend. Would you accept this humble offer?
He is a seasoned artist of his class, having good control on his voice with full expression. He know that what he is doing. Composition, arrangements of instruments specially mixing is excellent.
Jagjeet is a great artsit but i assess him a man with a serious & sober personality. In this item, he felt agony and tried to express his inside to the listeners, with out obviously exposing, what his feelings are. this is my a little bit delicate assessment. The combination of the instruments Tabla, guitar (specially at it's base part playing) and violin, just added extra music colours to the item. Thanks for chamogaa, who forwrded to me & to *noeenmg*, who up loaded. Khalid Asghar.
Very deep and insightful on your part, you understand the soul of indo/pak music very well, not many people do ...glad to see people like you watching these videos we need to keep this music alive.
Few today can render Ghalib ghazals with the same sweetness of voice and depth of emotion as JS. Wonderful, just wonderful. He does like his musical accompaniments at high volume. Ghazals always sound better with a more restrained volume in the orchestral support. Still, JS is a musical delight-- always! Thanks for the clip, naveenmg.
jagjit has always been great with Ghalibs shayries. Pls inform one of the comment makers that Ghalib has been the gretest ghasal writer ever we learn all the time i hope he/she does not take an offence regards G2
KHARAABATI here's to your comment, ........ I Think what is overrated is your freaking existence...just shrivel up an ddie mf....why are you on this site listening to his material you idiot !!!
it does mean meeting or union. Sometimes it is used for death because death is considered to be union or return to God. So when we say, un ka wisaal ho geya, we mean, he got reunited with God. In the context of this ghazal, it means, it was not in my fate to get reunited with my beloved one.
@deficitof you are right wen you say visaal means death. but not in this ghazal bro!! it doesnt hold any sense in this context! death of my loved one was not my destiny :O .. hope 2 yrs later u wud understand ghazals better :D lolz!
dude can you please translate this line in hindi...im sorry i dont undersand urdu but still listen to these legends...love and appreciate of all that i understand of their ghazals...
"Naseh" means "a giver of advice", "charasaaz" means "a healer", and "gham-gusaar" means "a sympathizer, or someone who shares one's sorrows". So the sher means "This sort of friendship, where the so-called friends do nothing but give unwanted advice, is worthless. How I wish that some of them would instead either cure my pain or sympathize truly with my sorrows."
dudes, Ghalib was a much greater genius than you guys. Here is my translation of those lines: I lived my life on your promise. Beware that I knew it was a lie. Had I not died of happiness, if I had believed on that. (meaning: I would have died of happiness, if I had really believed you would come and get reunited with me)
it,s also personal likings. moon reflects light from sun, but that is not what i mean. my cousin was influenced by one song wonder. no comparision. pankaj is pankaj. anw let,s not argue and enjoy the master of ghazals. i agree both r loved. and lata is pure lata, a bharat ratan.
jagjit ke awaz main patha nain kia jado hay jab main jagjit ko sunta hun dunya say la taluk ho jatha hon our khas kar ghalib k kalam ka jo jagjit nay haq ada kia hay our kisi nay nain kia.our is ke maan nay jo naam raka hay usi tara is nnay dunya walon kay dilon ko jeet lia hay.i love him
Ghulam Ali still sings for sure. He has not come out with any new albums but he still goes around and does concerts here and there. I met him like a month ago here in the US. He was doing a concert. It was never in my fate to meet my beloved.
Even if more years of life was to me allocated, I would have been still awaiting the prize cherished.
If you think that I had been living on your promise, it is a lie.
For, if I had faith in you, would not of joy I would die.
Woe betide, my friendship, that the friends give pious advice and sermons they deliver.

It was not my destiny that I unite with my love.
I would have waited for the moment, if I would have lived till then…
-Tere wade par jiye hum toh yeh jaan zoot jana,
main khushee se mar na jaati agar eitabaar hota
If you think that I lived on your promise, that’s not the situation…
Wouldn’t have I died with joy, if I’d been sure that you are trustworthy!

it does mean meeting or union. Sometimes it is used for death because death is considered to be union or return to God. So when we say, un ka wisaal ho geya, we mean, he got reunited with God. In the context of this ghazal, it means, it was not in my fate to get reunited with my beloved one.
