  • Beautiful performance from a great musician.

  • They just don't make them like Mr Johnson anymore. Total respect.

  • Awesome

    Grandma Mary

  • without words, her sweet voice and his guitar say it all.

  • music to my ears & a spoonful of sugar for my soul

  • Wow, what a great voice! Wish I could sing like that!

  • what a fantastic singer, guitar player and songwriter he was!

  • ..& th' voice♪♫!

  • Superb moment of history® UNIC Acoustic STYLE. i Hrd' Many Bluesmens, L.Johnson style emerges a great technique & with feeling ..but played with modesty, quiet. SIMPLY BEAUTIFULL ..Love it. Thanks Mr.Johnson ..& pitotas30

  • My old time favourite from one of the most influental blues master in the history

  • Fuldkommen vidunderligt <3

  • J"adore le son de sa voix

    J"adore son jeu de guitare

J"adore ce qui se dégage de son chant

  • Lonnie is around 72 years old in this great film. A true inspiration to us fiftysomethings.

  • And I think that woman's face at 2:05 is just beautiful, wonder how old she is now.

  • I find this just almost too good. Tears running down. What a master!

Now, professors of blues history. I read somewhere Lonnie is regarded as the first blues player to perfect melodies and call and response with single string runs.

Can anyone comment on this? I'd love it if it is true 'cos I love Lonnie's playing and singing.

I also heard he toured the UK just after WW1 and returned home to find most of his family had died in the great 'flu epidemic of 1918. Tragic.

  • definetely the best acoustic blues guitarist.

  • Out of time...

  • What an unimaginable treasure!! I can't thank you enough for sharing!!

  • Great.

  • One of the most over looked Bluesmen....You can hear the early strains of Jazz lines in his playing....

  • Perfect, Absolutely perfect.

  • You cannot beat this kind of sound with a stick it’s simply tantalizing and it is amazing in quality, sound & form; it is not reproducible.

  • Definately blues from the soul.

  • where have this music been all my life? glad i stumbled onto this before i died.

  • @odyssey4me-- his partner hasn't left him yet,

when she does leave, then he'll understand the blues.

  • Thanks for uploading this. Lonnie will live on thans to folks like you

  • flawless:,,,it ain't how well you play,,,it's how well you recover

  • Oh Yeah, Lonnie Johnson is regarded as one of the most complex guitar players that has ever lived. Such effortless fluidity. You know he was a night janitor when he was rediscovered by a blues nut. His name escapes me, but he bought Lonnie a nice expensive guitar for him to play, well, Lonnie thought he was gonna get screwed again like his early recordings, so he sold the guitar. He finally believed this guy and went on the Great Folk Revival. Thanks Lonnie for your virtuosity. Mmmm!

  • @MrThunderharp I met him in NY at Gerdes Folk City in "64 when I was there with my family. He came over to our table & introduced himself. A real gentleman and a real treat to have met him.

  • @2711913

He does come across as a very polite man doesn't he!

Great performances on the AMERICAN FOLK-BLUES FESTIVAL DVDs.

  • HOLY SHIT! His control over the bends from 3:54-4:05 is straight up virtuosity.

  • Who is the one heartless dumb fuck that disliked this?!

  • @Odyssey4ME ---his partner hasn't left him yet,

when she does leave, then he'll understand and feel the blues.

  • Shame there's hardly any footage of him even though he lived and perfromed till the seventies.

  • @busessuck1 are u sure ? his wiki page says he died in 1970 after a car crash which if true was very sad.

  • Lonnie is one of the greatest, and maybe my favorite blues person.

  • this man is a true guitar legend!!

  • where is it from?

  • Outstanding, fantastic, thanks very much for this jewel

  • I thought I knew some blues, but somehow I missed Lonnie, Thanks for the upgrade.

  • the hurtinest

  • Look at the Age and Type of Audience he is playing to.

They are simply in Awe of his talent.

    I Love Texas Blues! RIP

  • Großartiger Blues...

  • What a voice

    And his picking!!!!!!!!

    SOOO GOOOOOD!!!!

  • this man was an angel!

  • Sublime.

  • I think this was filmed by Granada TV in the U.K. and was part of a program which also featured Memphis Slim, Matt "Guitar" Murphy, Willie Dixon, Victoria Spivey, Big Joe Williams, Sonny Boy Williamson, Otis Spann and Muddy Waters.

  • Fantastic stuff!! It looks like he might be playing on a European tour. Great camera work too. Thanks for posting.

  • I'll buy a record right now!

but what year is this? mid 60s?

  • What a complete artist this man was. One of the best to ever come along.

  • what a cooooooooooooooooollllll voice.....great

  • Thank you very much for posting, this is just sheer magic, from the other virtuoso Mr Johnson. Seems the audience too, fully appreciate the level of brilliance they are seeing!

  • I'm 63 years old and divorced. When I have an opportunity to find a "Chicken in my nest," I play Lonnie Jonson, and she usually "gives up her best best!!!" So good!!

    Thank you Lonnie!! God bless..............

  • wow awesome sound quality

  • Was this the first Guy to play lead solo Lines on Guitar ! ! in teh Blues at least......?

  • @Maguirearch i've read so:

"Alonzo[1] "Lonnie" Johnson (February 8, 1899[2] June 16, 1970) was an American blues and jazz singer/guitarist and songwriter who pioneered the role of jazz guitar and is recognized as the first to play single-string guitar solos.[3]"- wikipedia

  • @Maguirearch-- According to blues historians yes.

  • a true legend

  • such a smooth voice, beautiful

  • I love this type of blues jazz style. I met an older gentle man in guitar center ones playing 1920-30 style jazz, we played and talk for a while but i met got his name that was some yrs ago and still remember that. Please tell me where has the music gone?

  • what happened to music?

when did this dreamlike greatness turn into oasis & lady gaga?

    lonnie, stevie, charlie...please come back.

  • @tattooninja Some music today is crap. Some is great, though. Same as it ever was.

  • THIS is the song that made me want to learn to play Blues. I first heard it in 1968 when my cousin's husband had a Blues program on an "underground" FM radio station. I also discovered Magic Sam at the same time and have never looked back on my journey through the world of REAL Blues. Hubert Sumlin has a few VHS videos of Lonnie and we would watch them in respectful silence.

  • What a beautiful performance. Just listen to that way of ending the song: unique!

Thanks so much for posting this.

  • me and him have the same blues right now

  • The more people have the blues, the better. Means we can feel.

  • PRICELESS. Thanks for upload!!

    Such subtlety.

  • Thank you guy
