When I went to hollywood back in the mid 2000s .I was wondering what that abandon closed theater with the two light towers on the roof, that would light up,at night was. Now I know it was the old warners theaters. Wasn't this the same theater that used cinerama later before the other one was built.?

Got to be a composite of film clips from several different time periods--one theater marquee shows a film, June Bride, released in '48, but a lot of the cars you see are just as clearly 1951 models (Fords, Chevys, and a Studebaker Commander V8).
Honestly the 40's and 50's were the days when it was all right to live in the big cities but most notably on the western United States and most specifically Los Angeles. I ask a lot of people & my parents what were the cities like Lynwood, Compton, The Watts Area, and Paramount then and they all tell me that there were a lot of residing White people and everything was nice for the most part. Now the only White People in those cities for the most part are Cops, hookers, crackheads, and workers.

I wasn't born for another three decades since this is footage was in the late 1940s. I must say LA looked nice and peaceful back then. Now, in 2010 LA there are plenty of parts of LA that is very ghetto. I prefer to hang out in west LA than in east LA.

@all, 'It Never Entered My Mind' is on Workin' with the Miles Davis Quintet, I suggest you get the whole foursome (Workin', Relaxin', Steamin' & Cookin) for some of the best music you ever heard.
A lot of that stuff is still here. That section of Hollywood Blvd. with the Chinese Theatre and Warner's (now Pacific) is a tourist draw and is just as lively. Of course, the Brown Derby sadly caps off a strip mall and the Hollywood Hotel is gone, but you can still make out Ralph's on Westwood Blvd (there are also some great old theaters nearby--Fox and Bruin still play first-run movies). Also, not shown, are the numerous Broadway theatres which are currently in varying states of preservation.
I'm too young to know about the "old" "Great White Way" Broadway of Downtown LA but whenever I'm in Southern CA I always make a bee line for Broadway Downtown LA I love being around the Latino folks there. Really , REALLY nice generous down-to-earth folks and I'm not even Latino.
I'm damn well old enuff to recall LA late 1940s and it was a wondrous place. I say that having returned there many yrs later. Yes I know, one can never go back and things change. I feel that the obvious has brought such an ebb to Los Angeles and it started a long time ago and just grew out of control. It's real simple and largely all traces back to illegal aliens. When equal rights surfaced - Blacks started popping up everywhere and there went Compton and "white flight" after the riots. But already brewing for years were these uneducated immigrants of whom brought poverty and gangs and grew both on a level of increasing continuity and I give you modern day Los Angeles.

Got to be a composite of film clips from several different time periods--one theater marquee shows a film, June Bride, released in '48, but a lot of the cars you see are just as clearly 1951 models (Fords, Chevys, and a Studebaker Commander V8).

Honestly the 40's and 50's were the days when it was all right to live in the big cities but most notably on the western United States and most specifically Los Angeles. I ask a lot of people & my parents what were the cities like Lynwood, Compton, The Watts Area, and Paramount then and they all tell me that there were a lot of residing White people and everything was nice for the most part. Now the only White People in those cities for the most part are Cops, hookers, crackheads, and workers.

I wasn't born for another three decades since this is footage was in the late 1940s. I must say LA looked nice and peaceful back then. Now, in 2010 LA there are plenty of parts of LA that is very ghetto. I prefer to hang out in west LA than in east LA.

A lot of that stuff is still here. That section of Hollywood Blvd. with the Chinese Theatre and Warner's (now Pacific) is a tourist draw and is just as lively. Of course, the Brown Derby sadly caps off a strip mall and the Hollywood Hotel is gone, but you can still make out Ralph's on Westwood Blvd (there are also some great old theaters nearby--Fox and Bruin still play first-run movies). Also, not shown, are the numerous Broadway theatres which are currently in varying states of preservation.

I'm too young to know about the "old" "Great White Way" Broadway of Downtown LA but whenever I'm in Southern CA I always make a bee line for Broadway Downtown LA I love being around the Latino folks there. Really , REALLY nice generous down-to-earth folks and I'm not even Latino.

Then there were the idealists who honestly but dumbly thought communism could work. Of course those folks were ignoring human nature. @boazrg, the only reason things have changed so much is because of progress, however if we all want to start going back in time, let's just break out the old style cars and tear down them freeways.....uh big mistake lol......I lived in Venturay Country back then. My dad has to commute into West LA and San Fernando to go to work and as I grew up, the traffic just got worse and worse. I do like today's LA though and plenty of good places to it be it in a Latino/African American neighborhood etc.

Starts at 0.24 secs to 0.28 again at 0.57 to 1.03 then at 1.15 and finally at 1.22 to 1.26. Home to all the Stars and Moguls of the fledgling movie industry. Demolished in 1956, such a shame.
