hold your hands farther out, your making you glove saves behind your head, also, stop drifting towards where the shot is going to be... stay square to the shooter
Return to your normal stance between shots. And your glove positioning is all over the place. This is just a mess. It's this butterfly crap that ruins so many goalies.
@jewzilla36 no, im not. there's no reason to go down on every shot. There is no reason for the goalie's first reaction to EVERYTHING being 'get down in the butterfly.' why would you go down if the shot is headed for the high corner? whatever. im gonna save my time. The butterfly style is just horrible.
@jewzilla36 I play on sharper skates because I like to handle the puck and I am blessed with very good speed for a goaltender, so I can help my teammates by playing 3rd defenseman sometimes. I come from the Ron Hextall school of goaltending when it comes to puckhandling. Just more comfortable on sharper skates. It's a matter of preference though.
@jewzilla36 listen, i dont mean to be an asshole, i just feel very strongly that the butterfly style that has ruined the goaltending position. It makes me sick, actually.
@iLoveMEsomeME81 alright u actually no what ur talkin about, my bad dude i thought u were just and idiot hockey fan tht didnt play but yea u my bad man didnt me to be a dick either
@jewzilla36 yeah, i hear ya, it's cool. sorry again. i just wish there were different styles of goaltending still. It just seems like everything is butterfly, butterfly, butterfly. good luck buddy.
@ Mrnockers181 - It develops bad form? This drill is purely so he can practice form.. he isn't necessarily worried about "saving" it, he's going through the motions, practicing his form (which is absolutely beautiful) to develop muscle memory which is crucial playing against pros. Speaking of pros... Johan plays in the SEL, so I'm sure no one on here can begin to try and coach him... It just isn't going to work.
you need to stay in position! as the drill goes on your moving slowly across the crease cheating on the shots. shooter should be randomly snapping shots to both sides.
cheating much? first off you should not be taking shots that rapidly. just develops bad form. take your time between each shot so your not cheating over and cheating body position like i see you doing after the first 3 shots.
@cam123mitsu okay sooooo, hes in the blocking zone so his elbows r supposed to be on his ribs even though he isnt supposed to be gloving them hes supposed be chicken winging them his stance is correct
Its a lot easier if your glove is already up so if a shot goes low you can use gravity to your advantage and drop your glove quickly but if its resting on your leg than you need to fight against gravity to snag high shots. i used to get lit up once i played for the IJHL due to my bad habit of keeping my glove too low.
Those shots were right at his glove. Why does he have to go down? You go down to extend to the low corners, cover 5 hole etc. Not on these shots. Waste of energy.
the guy isnt supposed to try and score he is just shooting it glove side for him to catch it and focus on the puck and controlling the shot with his glove same with the blocker side trying to get him to deflect the puck into the corner so the rebound is away from the net so you people that are saying that the shooter sucks or the goalie knows where he is goin is the point its practice which means u do the same thing over and over again til its a natural reaction in a game and make the easy save
I don't know why goalies these days drop on every shot. 99% of the shots faced in this clip could be made staying on your feet and therefore being prepared for the rebound and saving energy!
Without showing my age, When I played rebounds were directed away from the front of the net. you could face 20 shots without dropping and not worry about a rebound. I don't have a problem with the style. I just don't think its necessary every shot
why do most comments come from know it alls, the ideal here is to create muscle memory for the goaltender, a good way to get better is to repeat something over and over, till it becomes a natural reaction to a shot.I hear the same comments from viewers who know squat about goaltender training. good job on the vid
Too bad the goalie knew where the shooter was going on every shot. I woulda thrown one top cheese glove side on the blocker series just to embarrass that douche
good tracking of the puck, but i noticed that you kept cheating to one side. i know the drill is fast(kinda) and you naturally move to one side when repeating the same saves over and over, but try to get yourself in the middle of the net each time. that will help in real game situations.
spelling something wrong is when you just don't know how to spell it. when you accidently spell something wrong because you are typing too fast or aren't paying attention it's a typo.
