  • the part where some pf the party people jump in the water reminds me of the show freinds which they jumped in the water also dancing

  • Nick... Forever Alone...

  • any one knows the music at 00:55?

  • I love poop whack!

  • i hate daisy

  • if it's only 2 fruit it's not considered juggling.

  • I love the part where Daisy and Gastby are dancing, and Gastby is in his uniform dancing with her. It's so sweet.

  • I love how the "old money" party are judging the "new money" who are not acting as composed as them, I wasn't aware of the extent of class issues within the US. Interesting book to read.

  • just finished reading the book, and its great! one of my favorites

  • back in the day they danced the charleston, now they shuffle...(x

  • Why read the book when you can watch the movie/ book=days of boredom, movie=2 hours and done!!!:)

  • @sharplinker I strongly suggest you read the book, it's got so much more in it than the movie does. I started and finished it on a 7 hour train journey.

  • Tom is nothing but a jackass

  • Jello molds were a sign of prosperity in that era. I forget how I a=came across the history of Jello but its quite interesting they put that in there.

  • lol.. 1:40 not even juggling...

  • i hate daisy so much. she isn't worthy of gatsby's love

  • what's the music that plays in the background during the party?

  • @SuperLaxer234 I think it's the Charleston.

  • daisy's a little slut

  • 1:43 who gave the retard 2 oranges?

  • They really knew how to party back then. O_o

  • Thumbs up if you hate Daisy's hat

  • @alohachick0909 Thumbs up if you hate Daisy

  • @smookseh

  • CHARLESTON! :D

  • That fencing scene made me cringe. Get some real fencers in there, first day novices do better than that...

  • The book is writen in 1924 and the movie is filmed in 1974, exactly 50 years after? wow

  • You actually can't repeat the past. Like you spilled a cup of water on the ground and how the hell are you suppose to repeat that

  • 2:23 , I think why america lost the war in vietnam

  • Anyone else watching this because they simply like the goddamn book and film?

  • I think I already know why Daisy told Gatsby to wear the uniform.... ;) haha

  • bitch, just get in the car.

  • This Robert Redford reminds me of Brad pitt. Anybody agree?

  • Sparknotes on The Great Gatsby > The Movie

  • 8:15 Love the part when they're just reading each other's minds <3

  • Daisy's still rollin', wants to keep on dancin'!

  • When I visited Rosecliff, the mansion in Newport RI where much of this movie was filmed and saw the ballroom, I instantly thought of the scene where Gatsby and Daisy dance and kiss. It's a beautiful house.

  • Like why is Daisy trying to kiss her cousin Nick?

    Ollo Pollo!

  • i thot Hemingway had some hokey lines, but he's got nothing on Fitzy

  • @IETCHX69

"Fitzy" ?? Ha! Love it !!!

    :-)

  • @IETCHX69 most of the hokey lines in this scene are francis ford coppola - and his random awkward replacement of narrative into dialogue

  • Just finished the book, which was great. So I decided to watch the movie. For those of you who're watching the movie instead of reading the book, you're really missing out. The movie is good but the book is great.

  • @feliciamariestrong i prefer the movie.... over the book

  • reading this book at school !

  • what is the woman at 1:35 with the yellow flowers in her hair crying about ??

  • @DippenMeSomeCope the shark in her hair, of course. geez.

    :P

  • @BigTysHouseOfTech I read the book first AND watched it!

Gee, I don't mind watching film adaptation and reading sparknotes, but at least I read the book first before I do so because it gives a better sense of details and respect for the work the author has given. Don't get me wrong, the director of the movie obviously has deep respect for the book. If only teens of society would stop being superficial (like the characters in the book) and actually appreciate the book.

  • @BigTysHouseOfTech why wouldn't you it's freaking Robert Redford!!

  • @BigTysHouseOfTech I am your teacher and I will only ask questions which anwsers are left out of the film, since the movie covers about one third of the novel...he he he

  • @BigTysHouseOfTech

Haha yes! Exam's in less than 12 hours :X

  • @Kperson123

Hope you did well on it bro. I did my exam last year. This movie really helped considering I'm a visual learner :)

  • lol idiots. the movie is not at all sufficient for schools examination! use spark notes :D

  • @Epicthunder135 lol. Yup. Used that too. :) ended up getting an 89% on my English Exam. :)

  • @BigTysHouseOfTech lmfaooo doing that shit right now my dude

  • @BigTysHouseOfTech Lmao shouts out to THS! Mr. Daly class!

  • @BigTysHouseOfTech I read the book about 10 times voluntarily, if you have some questions just ask :) I'll be happy to help.

  • @MultiMcFluffy I would just like to point out that the comment I posted was over 7 months ago :\ I passed that class with flying colors.

  • @BigTysHouseOfTech there are bits of the movie that are different to the book

  • I can't be the only one who thinks they danced brilliantly in the 20s, right?

    1:40

  • without a shirt without a shirt

  • @Murry62 Is that what shes saying it sounds like it but ???

  • @Murry62 why does he say that?

  • Dammn Gatsby Is HOT.

  • Daisy's comment that Gatsby had earned his fortune through a string of drug stores is a tip-off to the reader hat he is indeed a bootlegger, which is often lost on modern audiences who don't know that during Prohibition drug stores had an excemption that allowed them to sell alcoholic beverages for "medicinal purposes." Routinely violated by doctors and pharmacists alike, many drug store marquees that you know today became huge chains in the '20s through "legal" bootlegging.

  • @aarfeld cvs?

  • @JBtheLAMBO: I think CVS may be a modern corporate creation born after Prohibition, but I don't know the history of the company. Think of companies that would have been big back from the '20s through the '60s, before all the corporate mergers caused many of them to disappear.

  • @aarfeld sounds a lot like weed today

  • @TheBornNomad: Yes, the parallels are pretty glaring.

  • @aarfeld Very good comment, quite correct. I found it fascinating to look on the beaches of Shelter Island. So many very old broken rum bottles! They had to ditch pretty often.

  • @aarfeld

there was 'medicinal whiskey' which as you can imagine saw a lot of prescriptions written for it during prohibition

  • @01:40 wtf? woman who's juggling two oranges looks so happy lol.

  • I got to say good movie but boring as hell book.

  • you guys got it all wrong.daisy AND tom are douchebags

  • nick is hot

  • I know it's a movie and they have to add in some of what you don't see in the book, but I love how the affair is done in the book. Nick knows it's going on. Jay gets rid of all his servants cause Daisy's coming over and he doesn't want them judged. And you just imagine it. This is cheesy. It's interesting how the parts that Fitzgerald wrote are probably the best scenes!

  • jay gatsby is king of the bootleggers.

  • @leedumett444 Which is not a good thing, remember.

  • either way you spin this, nick is a pimp

  • Jordans is finee...

  • that must have been the hardest scene to film, dance and kissing at the same time. geez!

  • Oh, I want one of these baking forms! To make a castle cake!

  • I would wreck daisy's pussy

  • dang... gatsby has swag!

  • 1:28 you big bully

  • "without a shirt without a shirt"

  • This movie has me cracking the fuck up

  • dat one ho jugglin oranges while she charlston ooo child! 1:44

  • Richard Gilmore gettin da hoes over there by dat young jello...yello! (i know lame) 1:38

  • @rsparth yeah I think Daisy knows

  • @00Boombang00 Yes, she knows. She just doesn't do anything about it because she doesn't want her marriage broken up. That would mean giving up her life of comfort and social status.

  • why are all the actors in this movie sweating profusely..?

  • @TinniWahine I think cuz it's the summertime. The day Tom learns of the affair is the hottest day of the summer. Maybe it's building up to it.

  • @TinniWahine simply because it's an extraordinarily hot summer. they are talking about it all the time in the book.

  • @TinniWahine cuz they probably want to show how New York summers are very hot and humid

  • why does she always want him to kiss her?

  • does daisy know tom is cheating on her?

  • 1:40 Drunk girl juggling 2 oranges as if that is impressive. LOL

  • O Gosh white people cant dance LOOL!

  • i jizzed in my pants after looking at jordan's face

  • Daisy is an over-emotional slut, the worst kind of woman.

  • They couldn't find a more perfect woman to play Daisy, with a wonderful voice, after all, she had a beautiful voice.

  • Thank you

  • Daisy's one hellufa gold digger.

  • nick is the guy from law and order and robert redford is so damn sexy!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • i can't stop laughing at the way the people dance!

  • soo... like... im in love with Jordan :)

  • Okay, i just wanna say...Daisy is adorible!!!

  • "You can't repeat the past? Of COURSE you can ! ! "

  • Jordan is literally the only cool character throughout this whole book.

  • Gatsby looks like that one anchor from CBS news.

  • kissing while dancing...theres something u dont see every day

  • tom seems to be the closest thing to a normal person so far in this film, while the rest make me glad 1929 happened

  • @jethro035181 You mean Nick?

  • @The4thGuy ...no, i mean tom...the guy with the mustache and daisey's husband..nick is a spazzed out observer and nonachiever, tom is the sort of person who gets somewhere and the sort of person i met in school...some of his actions may not be admirable, but he is what you meet in the better circles of todays world

  • @jethro035181 Ah! I see...

By the way, I find it funny how I'm reminded of Uncle Rico when I see Tom.

  • @The4thGuy ...uncle ricco...had to look it up..think its not complimentary...but seriously, if you go to a private high school or a professional course at a good university, it will be filled with toms and not too many nicks...it's not good but thats the way it is..all my relatives with any money are toms

  • @jethro035181 Does having money make a person virtuous, even if he did nothing to earn it and is completely lacking in empathy for those who haven't had his advantages? Tom is banal, priggish, racist and hypocritical, and if he lost his money (as one would hope his kind did in the Crash of '29), he would be thoroughly unremarkable. With or without money, Nick would always have his perceptiveness, honesty and decency, and Gatsby would have "an extraordinary gift for hope, a romantic readiness."

  • @Seasass ..thanks for your comment..it's a little idealistic..i've had personal experience of a woman like daisey, hence my loathing of fitzgerald & zelda and gatsby & daisey, and all lost cause relationships..nick has all the gifts and graces but does nothing with them..money isn't virtue, but it gives you time to cultivate grace and virtue..i had to work for all of mine but i still identify with tom..i hope you manage to keep your idealism as someone has to buy those danielle steele books

  • @jethro035181 You seem much more familiar with Steele's work than I am :). Money does indeed enable one to cultivate grace and virtue. It's a powerful indictment against Tom that he has done neither. He just lives off inherited wealth and looks back on his glory as a college football player. (If you had read Fitzgerald, that wouldn't be a subject of debate.) You're right about Daisy, though, and in the end, the novel suggests that she and Tom are perfectly matched: insipid and rich.

  • Daisy is a goldiging slut. Whore!

  • you're all wrong, young robert is hotter than brad.

  • Robert Redford is so hot in a tux!

  • Robert is such a talent actor. He is so gorgeous and acts so naturally.

  • quite the parties they had back in the day.

  • LOL DAISY.

    so ditzy.

  • daisy's so adorable! lol

  • To all men who think dancing isn't sexy, Robert Redford waltzing in uniform while kissing Mia Farrow? THAT'S SEXY!

  • Does anyone knows what walz is played between 7:30 and 9:45?

  • what is it daisy is saying at 4:13? or what is the song they are playing?

  • @starmochieater09 The orchestra is playing The Sheik of Araby, and I believe Daisy is singing the last lyrics, without a sheik, without a sheik.

  • Robert is such a handsome man!!! Dont compare him and brad bitt, they are both great acotors in their own right !

  • Daisy is so ditzy and actually a little annoying, I don't know if I'd be so charmed by her as all the other characters seem to be.

  • thanks for uploading this

i have test over the book soon

  • @tannerhinrichs me too haha

  • is that anthony from smosh at 2:33 to 2:38 in the back in the white shirt?!?!?

  • @guitarPlayer445 OMG LOL

  • like if you had read the book for school but your too lazy so you decided to watch the film on youtube

  • Wow, I'm surprised by how many people are tuning into this. Look at how current all of the comments are.

  • @Kickingit06 hehe, when i look at it its all a week old :P but still, it is surprising.

  • What up Erte'. (Those in the know of whom I speak, give me a thumbs-up) ;)

  • You read my mind! :O specially Gatsby looks like Brad Pitt

  • @Jaymeizterflash01 ..You just caught Hollywood recycling star-types again. Brad pitt has become that 'type' now, so they can keep the movie machine rolling, and because Redford has become too old to play these roles. You won't see Pitt playing anything like the roles of Twelve Monkeys again.

  • lol that bitch was straight juggling and dancing

  • "Sharks in my hair! There are sharks in my hair!"

Never fails to make me giggle.

    Faved just for that.

  • This movie is a lot like Toy Story 3.

  • If people still danced like that then this country wouldn't have such a problem with obesity!

  • @jandyb79

possibly, since the main cause of obesity in america is sedentarism. iguess it would cheer you up as well XD

  • This kind of reminds me of wuthering heights.

  • Tom's a douchebag.

  • @Lopsided42day - Well, Gasby's a creep. lol... all the guys in this movie are so not fucking worth any girl's time... except, maybe Nick.

  • 4:45 gatsby looks like James Bond

  • @ Menegoth LMAO

  • haha the guys looked really retarded when they danced :)

  • nick and gatsby look like steve carrell and brad pitt

  • @souviewassabi54 if they ever do a remake of this..they'll fit the roles PERFECTLY! :)

  • @souviewassabi54

everyone I know has said that gatsby looks like brad pitt :)

  • @souviewassabi54 great actors to recruit if hollywood ever makes a remake, which i doubt

  • @bb33nnii i would love to go back into the 20s and go to parties like that. i bet it would be fun.

  • is jay gatsby brad pitt?

  • he is quite alike, isn't he? he's robert redford i think

  • @dingdon0101 This movie was made in 1974 which would either make Brad Pitt a preteen or very good at lying about his age. Gatsby is played by Robert Redford. Both are gorgeous and talented but Redford is a true legend.
