  • damn thats nuts what a hurricane

  • Great video, Jim-- one of my very favorites from your portfolio. It's such a great selection of shots.

  • wow so long a go i was 8 when hit am 17 now

  • I lost my home from Charley, it was terrible but at least my family and I made it through.

  • What an intense mother that was..god..very underated Hurricane!

  • 2:10 What a gust

  • Oh man, I remember when I was like 9 or 10 and this hit. My house was almost wrecked but it held out somehow. My entire backyard was fucked though. :(

  • This was a terrible hurricane but it's no match for Andrew.

  • @jjjntstepp1234 it was the strongest hurricane to hit since andrew

  • a hurriane is gonna hit britain were i live and my dad is going on a trip and he's gonna fly threw it 0_0

  • I was there it sounded* like a train was using our house for tracks...

  • I was there it souded like a train was using our house for tracks...

  • Save the Pandas!

  • wow thats awsome

  • getcha skimboards!!!!!

  • this one was soooo much fun

  • NO NO NO NO NO DAMN BITCH IRENE! I WAS SUPPOSED TO FLY HOME ON SUNDAY FROM VIRGINIA, BUT NOOOOOO I CANT NOW! thanks irene. enjoy your fucking stupid face... if you had one

  • but hurricane irene is gonna strike where im living and where i am going on vacation is it really dangerous cause i never been in a hurricane before some one plzz help

  • i remember i was in the car with my mom dad and brother we where at a gas station parked and my mom put our carseats down me and my brothers i was 4 when this happend and the gas station's roof almost came off ontop of us IT WAS CRAZY a HUGE truck was flipped over we drove by it after the Hurricane and asked if anybody was in their no one was though . i think ...

  • i remember when it happened i was 6 and living in Cuba. i was inside the eye, it was Crazy

  • I remember when it happened i was just entering high school

  • I was on holiday in Florida, when this happened. It was pretty scary.

  • i was in this hurricane...on vacation it was scary

  • i remeber i was in my 20 not a good day

  • Scary! My aunt and uncle have a beach house on Little Gasparilla Island! It miraculously was spared! I heard that the devistation was unreal. Thank God you two were ok!

  • I heard that hurricane emily is coming to florida in august!

  • @thelogsterz hurricane irene

  • wheres the paper towels???

  • @cyberpetrol BOB SAGET!

  • wow im in florida and ive been in this one

  • For all who are saying this is a cat 4, it was not. Ask anyone from Port Charlotte that this was a cat 5... The airport in Punta Gorda near where I live recorded a wind of 181, but no one believed it. NO ONE in Charlotte or Desoto county was prepared for this storm... EVERYONE in New Orleans had a chance to evactuate or prepare for Katrina..

  • I remember this hurricane so well since not many hit new england, but it carried up all the way from Florida and still had a ton of power, it was crazy

  • Well, the reason I am adding a comment is I believe this is the year that Orlando is going to get hit by a cat 2 hurricane. The good news is that I will be on vacation from work for at least 2 weeks. The bad news is that the local bike trails will be damaged with fallen trees. I will be donating my time for clean up. Hey its better than being in the office. But with all of the earthquakes and crazy twister storms in the mid west. Florida is due for a hurricane.

  • i was there

  • I was on vacation at myrtle beach when this damn hurricane game through.

  • Lol @ 3:17 you cant even see across the street.

  • wow cant belive i just found this. this was the only trip i remember from florida

  • I just wanted to say, I was residing in Clearwater Fla at that time, we were out of power for about two weeks due to all those storms. Charlie was most definitely a Cat 4 hurricane. If it had stayed on its projected path, which would have hit us in Clearwater dead on, it would have developed into a Cat 5...I no longer reside in Clearwater ^^. I do miss it though...so close to the beach >.<

  • Hur. C was worse in punta gorda :P a tree fell on my neighbors house i live by over 1000 trees!

  • i was like 8 went Hur. C happened ;l

  • My close friend from Port Charlotte was in this hurricane and she's scarred for life :'( I feel so bad for her and everyone else that had to go through this.

  • it hit me, im glad im alive.it hit me on a category 5 no joke it hit me on category 5

  • @Dmuz75 Mee to thre other ones too when i wa only 4 charley frances and one more

  • @MLL561 wilma lol hurricanes are fun

  • @thehacksrule i know right and now irene wooohoo

  • @Dmuz75 i was in that hurricane too. i was in South Carolina at the time. But I was 4 so i only remember some things. :)

  • @rscamlax i was 2 when that happened

  • @Dmuz75 i was 4. u in 5th grade now?

  • @Dmuz75 it maxed out as a strong cat 4

  • Was worse in the cape I guess, the wind pushed our cars across the lawn and into a ditch.. lol

  • i was in that ... it sucked... haha

  • My family and i were in this hurricane in Orlando - scary :S

  • @conniekittenem same here. i was visting my aunt and uncle in Orlando (im from MN) so this was scary for me!

  • its sort of funny because the people dont care in the car too much

  • my b-day i was 6

  • We wrecked the school down there because of this! Neil Armstrong EL.

  • Max Winds were at 145mph at Landfall

  • This Was a Category 4. Not a Category 5. Stop Saying It was. Goodness.

  • Okay how strong were the winds from 0:56 to 2:37.That already looked strong enough already!!

  • Great video quality, especially for '04.

  • I saw the storm through my back window when I was in Harbour Heights. I thought it was a very interesting storm. The funny thing about it is that people heading north had the strom follow them up US 17 past Orlando through to the east coast.

  • Charley was a category 4 hurricane that hit Port Charlotte and Fort Myers southern florida on august 13th 2004.Charley was so dangerous that it killed 25 and left at least 7.5 billion dollars in damage.WOW THATS AN AMAZING HURRICANE!!

  • wow thats a a powerful hurricane

  • where were you guys when you shot this and actually about the category a couple of days after the storm they unofficially made it a 5 because the wind reader at the charlotte county airport broke because the wind was to fast i lived in deep creek and road out the storm in our laundry room we lost our roof and a couple windows the first thing i saw was a oine needle in a wall in our living room

  • worst part of this one was that it hit a 5! im glad u guys who live there are doing good. :(

  • @TheGarcia350 it was really a cat 4

  • @Tiburone15 It HIT at 5 and slowed down to 4.

  • it was a 5

  • Comment removed

  • Looks a tad bit windy there...

  • I was in this hurricane and my house was right above the eye it was so pretty yeat scary u couyld hear the birds and then you look around you and all you see is black abiss it felt like you where going to die and I lived on 1366 annette st look on google maps and see what my house looked like after hurricane charley i miss my home :{

  • I rember this day it was my b-day and my uncles house burnt to the ground it was maham bank were geting robed right it passed lucky no one in my famly was injured , yea i lived in the cape at the time

  • I was in Ft Myers during this hurricane it was nuts

  • wow that fucking on real

  • I was in this hurricane on my holiday to Florida - i was terrified! :S

  • I had lived in Punta Gorda for about a month when Charley hit. It was like God was telling my family, "Yeah, you see this? This is the physical representation the shit you are going to go through for the next (insert how long my family is going to live in Punta Gorda) years. Enjoy."

  • theirs no way it was a 4 it had to have been a 5, i was in the eye of the storm

  • Easy to forget until you have a Hurricane That we live in mother natures world and not the other way around.

  • I wuz at Disney World when that happened. Since I'm from NY I'd never seen rain or anything like that. I was SOOOO scared! We had to be evacuated from the wilderness campground thing because of the trees. We got transfered to a really NICE hotel tho! Disney World was trashed after that. Lots of rides closed

  • @gabby33384 it rained like hell here yesterday, and it wasn't even a hurricane, but you'd think it was because it was raining so hard.

  • Also, I have watched the radar and satellite loops of Charley's landfall and it is obvious that Charley strengthened rapidly while nearing the coast as eyewall convection intensified quickly, but then weakened rapidly just before landfall as an outer eyewall quickly formed and the intense inner eyewall weakened rapidly. This spared the area from a devastating EF-3 landfall.

  • The winds in this video look like 80-90 mph peak gusts. You must have missed the strongest part. All of the puplished photos of damage to mobile homes and trees in the hardest-hit area show general EF-2 damage at the most. I would take the "unofficial wind measurements" of 160 mph at the airport and 173 mph medical center with a grain of salt, reminiscent of the "172 mph gust" at Biloxi Miss.during Georges in Sept. 1998- erroneous reading due to water blown into the instrument.

  • omg look at the palm trees there just swinging :D

  • "Where are the paper towels?" " O damn they are in the back " hahahah epic ! nice video....

  • I lived in Fort Myers/Cape Cape Coral at the time. This thing was terrible!

  • I Want Revenge! bit . ly/jerku

  • lol the American Flag was like D:

  • ha yeah i live in Punta Gorda. that thing tore everything up.

  • "Good thing this thing is moving fast, this is dangerous as sh**" I was thinking the exact same thing Jim! What an amazing hurricane!

  • i lived like 45 minutes from punta gorda and holy shit we didnt evacuate. that was a bad idea. man we drove out during the thing and we got about 10 miles from my house and we had to turn around it was that fucking bad

  • YEAH THAT SHIT WAS JUST LOVELY...i PUT MY HAND AND THE CEILING AND YOU COULD FEEL IT MOVING MY HOUSE LOOKED AS THO IT WAS BREATHING

  • @LOGANSMOMMY0405 Same here, the walls in my kitchen looked as though they were breathing. I lost power for like a week, not as bad as other people but still sucked.

  • LOL 0:43 AHHHH SHIT there goes your window HAHA LOL My moms is gona be mad at me.

  • Kissimmee+ North eastern eyewall= My house nearly falling apart, I will never forget the day Charlie came to town

  • my cat is slepping

  • Oh shit!

  • We were sure fortunate we didn't get alot of damage in NP!

    Oh my gosh!

  • Yup...Charley sucked!

  • ok cyclonejim i lived in south venice florida which is about 10 15 miles from Port Charlotte, the scary part is it was supposed to hit us dead on with its eye but at the last moment it changed course for Port C.

  • I was right in the eye of the hurricane

  • I'm surprized that the flag was still hangin on

  • Good footage. Distance and wipered view pane

  • I had moved to Port Charlotte from Fort Myers just a week before the hurricane. I am near the river so I got a front row seat. The eye came over my house. Wathcing this footage brings shivers down my spine. They say it was a cat 4 but the hospital around the corner recorded well over cat 5 speed winds. I was lucky and my house sustained minimal damage. My heart goes out to the less fortunate. There were so many 'blue' roofed houses afterwards.

  • @HungryBuilder YUP i WAS IN THE SAME AREA

  • whoa that happend a day befor my b-day! i was unhappy cuz i was in it and it was my birthday. as soon as the eye hit i had to go to the basement. there i got my stuff for my b-day and as it whent over our house we got in the bed room downstairs. i saw that our roof hd blown off. it was a mess! luckly i survived and i cought it on tape. icould show you but i lost my camra. ill search for it.

  • @boi9031 BASEMENT IN FLORIDA?? DAMN YOU ABOUT ONE IN A MILLION....YOU MUST LIVE FAR IN...OR NOT IN FLORIDA @ ALL HMPH

  • this happened on my b-day oh em gee!!!! never knew baybe bcuz i waz little.

  • i remember being in that one. that was the scariest thing i experienced. i was in port orange and i was about 10 years old. It changed my life forever and i will never forget it.

  • I helped salvage a house that was practically caved in! My poor godmother and her kids were all scared :( they all evacuated before the storm came tho :) so everyone was ok.

  • I lived in fort myers when this happened and i was 4 years old :D after those 3 hurricanes we moved straight to california now im 14 almost 15 and looking back on this it was bad

  • it ruiend mt grandparents home!

  • was that a catagory 3 hurricane? cause it looks lke a 3.

  • @boi9031

Charley was a category 4 on the immediate coastline but as all hurricanes making landfall it was probably down one category within an hour after landfall.

  • omg that is worse then category 4 kinda

  • @cyclonejimcom Is there profanity in a lot of your videos?

  • @boi9031 THATS CUZ YOU WEREN'T IN IT

  • @boi9031 Yea-Hurrican Charley got REALLY strong right before hitting land. It was a Cat.4.

  • Those tall Mexican Fan Palms bend around like limp noodles.

  • A day after my 15th birthday, this was a hurricane seared into my memory... Just like the other 3 that hit in '04.

Was the scariest thing I've ever experienced. My heart has never pounded so fast.

  • I lived in fort myers during charley. I was at work for 3 days straight when charley hit. I work in a hotel and went in early to beat the storm. Parked the car under the canopy of the hotel and had my radio, 2 burner propane stove and propane camping lamp. Not fun to sit in a hotel for 3 days straight and listen to the guests complain that they want their money back because there is not electricity. I guess you should have just stayed in your house on fort myers beach? Oh Wait, its washed away.

  • -.- damn hurrican changed my life forever i will nvr forget it...

  • @liquidstrikejgirl yeah same, but the hurricane was not the worst part it was having no electricity and people robbing houses.

  • @liquidstrikejgirl u and me bolth brother...it shaped me into the man i am today

  • @liquidstrikejgirl me too

  • My friends and family and I all went to orlando, from St. Pete. It was supposed to knock us out. We hardly got any rain. Afterwards My best friend and I went down to help rebuild Port Charlotte. The destruction was incredible.

  • Jim...just did a video response of some post storm clips that weren't on the documentary. We so glad to live through that one. That was one scary ass chase.

  • yeah i know that chinese take out place, love the sweet and sour chicken =p

  • that building should have took down the america flag

  • during Charley my favorite Chinese Wokery in North Port was still delivering orders, bless their hearts. All be it the storm wasn't nearly as violent in North Port as it was just 20 miles south in Punta Gorda but still. And what kind of people place orders during an on coming hurricane.

  • Man that was a bad one

I was soooo lucky to be in orlando

  • i was in Ft.Myers FLA at the time of charlie..was pretty strong ,punta gorda got hit the hardest..it really is awsome to see the power of nature. been in many hurricanes, i would say charlie was the strongest to hit SWF..

  • Thanks... this brought back the best memories of my life weather-wise: I followed Charlie just to find a few days later that I could get into Florence! It was awesome! And, please... seaworld2009shamu... post your vid!

  • omg!!!! i was thereee for vaction when hurricane charliee came in 2004 ! We opened the dorr and recorded the wholeee thing on videoooo!

  • i will never forget this day friday 13,2004

    hurricane charley winds 150 MHP

  • I too remember Charley. It was the first and LAST hurricane I went through! I lived in Fort Myers and remember waking up around 5 am to screaming winds, whats really weird is around 1 am that morning everything was still and VERY quiet

  • CATAGORY 1 = Stay outside and feel the winds!

CATAGORY 2 = Dont the Winds feel great?

CATAGORY 3 = O_o If your going outside you better hold on to something

CATAGORY 4 = get the fuck in! GET THE FUCK IN!

    CATAGORY5 = HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!

  • I Remembered That! When The Hurricane hitted Us It Destroyed Our FENCE We Were Out Of Power for About A Month! We Had A Generator Plugged in For a Small Tv And a Fan And We Had To Fill in Our bathtub Full of Water before it hitted us!

  • I will never forget that day. I lived on Easy street which is off US41. Our whole house was destroyed. I was a Junior at Charlotte High and they just finished rebuilding the whole campus a couple of months ago. 5 years since then.

  • I remember this. I had just moved here in June, and two months later and huge hurricane comes. and we had like two others ones two, I dont remember how many though. and my power was was out for so long. wow, Ill never forget this day.

  • i remember this! i went to florida on vacation and had the time of my life. the day i was meant to leave, hurricane charley struck. i was in the airport at the time. it was quite jokes tho coz i made loads of friends whilst chatting up a few girlies aswell lol oooo n we didn't have to pay for any of the games in the arcade

  • You know, i'm trying to show my 5 year old that was born just after the Hurricane but you keep saying s - h - i - t. Could you please note that there is cursing?

  • AMAZING! 5 yrs ago today.

  • oh god the end world

  • Is that the hurricane that caused $10 million of improvements to Punta Gorda?

  • didnt know much about hurricanes back then. my dad went out in the eye of the storm and me and my bro were like R U DRUNK?!

  • the eye of a hurricane (or storm) is the center of it where it appears calm but there is still the rest of the hurricane to pass .

  • ya i know that now but when charley hit i didnt

  • The storm isn't what scares me. I dread dealing with all the angry, whiny, jerky people waiting in lines and with the electricity out after the storm.

  • Great Video!

    Enjoyed moment of it!

I plan to do some hurricane camping in the very near future. I will be using my new Kelty Orb 2 Tent to "ride out" the hurricane. Great little tent.

  • elle et tro bien

  • My first Hurricane. I remember anticipating it's arrival all day, watching the newspeople tell us that school had been canceled. Finally it came, slowly, and slowly, and then it beared right on top of us. I remember it just like this, the wind, and rain and everything. One of the most exciting experiences of my life. I WOULD do it again if I could.

  • Jesus christ that was a powerful storm!

  • Oh the weather outside is fightful, but the sun is delightful. Since we've have no place to go Let it Blow, Let it Blow, Let it Blow.

  • Im not scared of a hurricane anymore been here since 1 day old and they do not scare me at all. loved the storms coming in from the atlantic the cool air in summer as a child dark gray sky sun on my skin the salt in the water it was great then.

  • In citrus county florida a big wave flooded 2 towns in one mile deep water no way to contact anyone at all at the time electric was out too. Crime is bad enough here too really bad people needed help here too over the crime and this wave flooded never went back into the ocean what I heard in cell phone calls the crime is horrid in florida very serious. wooded area sharks inland is how horrible no way to get help to them over crime cops here

  • I came to live in Port Charlotte, Florida about a year later. Port Charlotte is near Punta Gorda where all this happend. One year after all that happend, there was still damaged and destroyed buildings around the place.

  • it took us about a year and a half but we got it done...thanks to the help of everyone

  • Yeah i remember it as if it were yesterday.

  • I lived in Port Charlotte during Charley it literally destroyed my house.

    I still live here.

    GREAT Town.

  • I lived in miami during hurricane Andrew, I had recently bin born so i don't remember anything. My dad says he saw 5 twisters outside the building where we used to live in, my aunt's car was flipped upsidedown, my mom went nearly outside to check out what was happening when someone came to her and said

" don't go any further "!!! During the storm, the building were we where cracked in half but it didn't collapse. The following days after, Miami had theves everywhere looking for food to steal.

  • i live in N ft.myers in a moblie home...only damage was to the landscape..how lucky were we?? the eye hit 20 miles from us.

  • so do my grandparents and they didnt get any damage except a little holes in the back(mobile home too)But our brick houses shingles flew off and we got major leakage

  • my friend was in the eye of this storm when she lived in america :(

  • and my birthday was on the 5th of august!

  • mys at 11th...!!!
