That's a sissy crane.  You should see the 6000 Ton (no joke) crane at the Virgil Summer nuclear power plant....Now that's a crane. It can build 2 nuclear power plants without having to be relocated!

You can,t remove counterweights when you have a payload in the cables!!!

So when you swing you do that with the counterweights or else a accident like big blue is waiting to happen!!!

i noe what im sayin sounds ridiculous bt its the fact... this happens at a new plant in my country (singapore) it belongs to exxon mobil. jus like ainstain99 said, the does have counterweights on its back... in order to perform the superlift additional counterweights are required. these are called the boogeyweights.. these boogey weights are place on a large weigh tray with huge tyres. i saw with my own eyes dat when the crane is doin to swing, sum of the boogeyweights are remove...

dis happens rite infront of my own eyes. all of us sighs when the heavylift is perform cos we knew it will take a very long time..the crane im talking about belongs to al jaber heavylift. fyi, im currently working for mammoet.

this crane is strong but the down side is it waste alot of time. for instance each time the crane is goin to swing, some of the counterweigts must me remove d and it sure consumes times.

the crane lifts the counterweights aswell as the load, both are off the ground to enable the crane to swing. in effect the crane is a set of scales.if the space to turn is to small u can fold the crane by decreasing the radius of the main boom superlift boom.there even are counter weigth trays with tyres, witch is shown on the model at the start of this film. these tyres can rotate 360 degrees so it is possible to turn them sideways to enable to turn the crane without load

@britdemo It's not at the wrong way ;) Both of the tracks are the same (they are not mirrored), in other words, it doesn't matter on which side you put one track. The other one is exactly looking the same, but at the rear instead ;)

Becuase each crawler assenbly is not symetrical when lookin from the side. but you can mount either crawler assy on either side of the crane, make sense? Most large crawler cranes are like this, this one is far more pronounced than others.

They only make 1 crawler assembly, it will fit left or right side of the crane. Since it in NOT uniform in shape you get this offset when looking at the assembled crane.

Demag is geat company,and only bad thing is that Terex is having its gready hands on him.

Many good folks lefted company after Mannesman/Siemens/Terex deal. Great German companys should remain German.

hey dude - ever realized that they where bankrupt and Terex helped them to recover? I think they do good since joining Terex. Lot's of great developments; e.g. the TWIN

they where not bankrupt, they where part of Manesmann grupation, Vodafone purchased Manesmann and they had no interest in this line of bussines so they sold it to Siemens and Siemens sold it to Terex. Now they are ¨bankrupt¨ with 2/3 of employees they had before. Terex wants his investment return ASAP and now they make machines with lots of factory mistakes similar to american cars.

Some of my cranes are Demag made and i should notice and know this things.

both cranes are huge. the ptc has an enormouse ring. this ona has a ring in the carrier. thay say that this crane is the largest crawler crane in the world
