The radio on display in the house now is NOT the same as the one Ralphie was listening to the Little Oral Annie Show on...how fake, the whole thing is ruined for me now!
@mypalrocco The house was given back to its residents after the movie was shot, and in time it was chopped up and divided into rental units. Everything was lost and nothing was preserved. They tried their best to bring it back.

@TheWICCACHANNEL The inside of this house wasn't used in the movie, The inside scenes were filmed in Toronto Ontario. This house here they just set it up for show, A lot is different in this video than on the movie lol

Re: "Minorities start moving in, whites move out..."
Not true. What happened in Cleveland is identical to what happened in Detroit - the Democrats over ran the area in the 60's ~ 70's and overtaxed the producers, who left. My father was one of them. As a result, low income groups move in (of all racers). The Democrats move on to bigger and brighter things (more money and more power), and never look back.
One, only the exterior of the house was used in filming the original movie. The scenes inside the house were filmed at Magder Studios in Toronto, Canada. Most of the other scenes were shot at locations in and around Toronto. The scenes in & around Higbee's were shot in & around the real Higbee's in Cleveland.
Two: Calling someone a "tard" is not only extremely offensive, but makes YOU look like an idiot if YOU'RE the one who's got their facts wrong.

Why not they remake everything else...and i'm not talking a "Christmas story II" I mean taking the same themes...the wonder years narration and setting it in a new time...I think I will get on this!
I just watched this today, funny thing, in the scene where they change the car tire, the olds has indiana plates but location is ohio-? Theyve changed some small things, dont think the fence was there, in movie the mailbox was at the sidewalk, different fridge(I think) the movie fridge had a horizontal handle. No matter, still a nice visit to the house, cameraman had too much coffee-lol-and im too picky-
they tried a sequel, and it just didnt have the same feel. Kinda funny, but the fact they never show it pretty much says it all. they involved the bumpis's next door, tried to exapnd on it, but this is one movie that cant be remade or sequeled, its a combo that cant be duplicated. The father is dead, kids grown, its a one of a kind.
@mypalrocco Did that childish bathroom wall comment make you feel better-? -- "If you want to know whats in a mans heart just listen to what comes out of his mouth" --- Ive never seen mans ass come out of his mouth before, hows that ass taste there mypalrocco-??
@yambo59 Listen here numbnuts, you are aware that the guy who played Schwartz is involved in adult films, aren't you? Apparently not so shut your piehole and mind your own business unless you learn the facts!
nice video,, i see they have done more work to the outside and upstairs since id been there, i went the first yr it was open and they were still working on doing the upstairs. great job with the bathroom, lol..
Wow, some ignorance in the comments here! I live in Cleveland and it's not "98% negro" (ever hear of the term African American, loser?). Second, the area this house is located in is no longer considered a "bad part of Cleveland" and it's not downtown. It's in Tremont, which is one of the hottest neighborhoods, full of great restaurants, including Iron Chef Michael Symon's Lolita. Tremont wasn't so hot when the house was first picked to be in the movie, but things have changed a LOT since then!
40's, probably through the mid-60's, but as most whites moved to the outskirts of Cleveland, the minorities remained. Isn't this the way most American urban areas work? Minorities start moving in, whites move out, and the downward spiral continues !!! A sad fact....
Why did I think some angry person comment like this on my comment? I replied to the person above me who said that Cleveland is 98% negro. And, I believe that Cleveland is where the house is located. The comment had nothing to do with the movie, but you sound like an angry black with a chip on their shoulder.
I am no where near angry and I dont have a chip on my shoulder either it's a shame that in the year 2009 racism still lives. It sounds to make that your a angry white who believes that he his better because of the color of his skin, but what I dont get is that this land didn't belong to the white race and that us as blacks never ask to be brought over here. See for you to say your white you would have to be"Blond hair Blue eyes" atlest that is what hitler believe so are your purly white?
You didn't answer my first question. Why is it that the neighborhoods go "bad" when the whites move out and the minorities stay? Not a racial question meant to offend, just a simple question from a freshman sociology class. It does have a lot to do with this film, because the house is in a so-called "bad" neighborhood.
SHINE912 didn't have an answer to the question; only that I'm angry and that I'm better than every one else. A typical response from someone who likes to blame the white race for everything.
oh brother. The neighborhood is fine. It's older and a bit rough, but the neighborhood has always been working class. A mix of everything under the sun including (this should make you happy, kingofmean) ACTUAL WHITE PEOPLE.

Hello, I was just here today Aug. 28, 2008. Since you visited the house, things have changed a little bit. The bathroom has a few more props, they have some new signs and the post box is on a stand out front, They opened a gift shop across the street and they also have a lot more movie items added to the Museum.I thought this was such a delightful place.I cried after I got home because it just brings back memories of when I was little.Thank you for posting, You should have more views than this.
P.S. May Darren McGavin rest in peace.. He was a legend himself. Funny the kid the kid that got his tongue stuck on the pole turned into in real life. Thanks for bring back a fond memory of a day I cut school in highschool. "Now show us how the piggies eat!" "Were did I learn to curse like that?" "I learned those words from my old man"
I remember seeing the original movie in the theaters the day it was released. Me and a friend cut school to see another movie but it hadnt started yet so we snuck into another movie till the other one started. And it was This movie! We never went to see the movie we came to see but stayed watch christmas story. We always talked about this movie long before it was cult hit. The narrator of this movie a radio broadcaster was a legend. He made this movie what it was. THanks for posting this! :)
I was surprised to learn that there are other Jean Shepherd "Ralphie" stories on YouTube, with the author narrating! They were PBS broadcasts from just before the movie came out, with an older Ralphie, and they aren't quite as over-the-top, but are still fun to watch:
watch?v=iGfuDoXXWxQ
watch?v=wvZkOVUJLBE
Production values aren't as high, but the stories and characterizations are great!
Remember that the house was only used for exteriors; interiors were sets in Toronto so things are not going to be precisely the same.
Someone asked about the unseen furnace. From the clues (that regulator / damper and the Old Man yelling "It's a clinker!" it would have been a coal-fired gravity warm air furnace with large ducts since there is no blower and it depends on warm air rising.
Was there a lot of plugs behind the tree? And where was the fuse box? That Fragile box looked a little small. Did they have the bunny jammies or Randy's coat?
Where is the heater DAMper? Did they have glass block basement winders back then? What about the actual music from the movie? Sure would have liked to see the basement furnace (a mystery in the movie)? Where is the F - - - car? Was there a plunger under the sink?
WELL DONE!!! I enjoyed the tour through your camera...thanks...that movie reminds me so much of home as a kid..my dad too left a cloud of profanity over our house when he got mad..lol
The house looks great. After seeing it here, I don't think I'd make the trip up there, though. There's not a lot to see and you did a great job of capturing all the details!
Thanks for sharing that. I first heard about the renovation of the house last year. I would DEFINITELY love to see it, but being in Canada, add to that my busy schedule, there's no way I'd ever get to see it. This video was the next best thing. Thanks so much. :)
I think they've done a nice job on this - but where's the black smoke billowing out the vent? Add that, a recording of Darren McGavin swearing, and a pack of dogs running loose on the property, and it'd be like you're in the movie!!! :) But nice job on the house, very nice!
@mypalrocco hey....behave naughty person or i'll have you booted from YouTube forever.snit.

I was surprised to learn that there are other Jean Shepherd "Ralphie" stories on YouTube, with the author narrating! They were PBS broadcasts from just before the movie came out, with an older Ralphie, and they aren't quite as over-the-top, but are still fun to watch:

Production values aren't as high, but the stories and characterizations are great!
Enjoy! =^[.]^=

I used to live like 20 miles away from Cleveland and I never went. lol
