  • @kcinaplacetobe CRT is the 1st exam you take which is written. An RRT is the second exam you take (it's optional but better to do it) which is simulated and IF you pass you make about 10k more then a CRT at least here in the Tri-state that's the truth about salary. I think I could be wrong but a CRT must update their license every few years where as an RRT the time to update your license is more. hope this helps.

  • i have a question can i go to medical school if i have B.S. in respiratory therapy?

  • @goldenageism You can go to Medical School with any bachelors degree. Yes, that includes art history and botany. What you need to do is your prerequisite courses. These are, at minimum, one year of biology for biology majors, 2 years of chemistry (1 inorganic and 1 organic), and 1 year of trigonometry based Physics. Many schools are now requiring a year of Math (stats and calculus) as well as a semester in biochemistry, genetics, or molecular biology.

  • well im doing this at FAMU.. well im not in the program yet but the prerequites are really hard..they are equal to those who are trying to be a doctor..simply bcuz u need to know all that stuff and u can go further with the career..[like trying to be a doctor]..

nursing curriculum is way easier...but its harder to get accepted in nursing school.

  • Loving naughty women who is alone her home gettop5.info

  • u still cant give meds without breathe in the body!

  • what's the highest this career pays out??

  • Im an RRT in Canada

Starting salary is 55,00 - 60,00 entrry level.

The RN's dont make that much to start here.

Our program is 3 years with ONE board/certification exam.

  • @Nic0le86

This is all news to me..but what's the most you can make?

  • Mangoomuffin, the RT is a course which awards you the Associates degree and its 18 months only. I dont know your fixation with helicopters but Im sure many remote areas require an air crew such examples would be if theres a call to pick up a stranded hiker in a remote mountain or something.

My sister is an RT and the pay here in New York City for an entry level is $55,000

    Good luck!

  • @TREBLINKA007

Entry level? But how high does it go? That's the thing. I know a lady that told me she went to school for "special education" started out at close to 40,000 but now is making to 80,000+

  • Does Respiratory Therapist fly helicopter. Does a Respiratory Therapist need a pilot license to fly helicopter. Can I work as a Respiratory Therapist as a high school dropout..

  • No, we don't fly helicopters. We don't always work in helicopters either. Matter of fact, most work in clinical settings and doctor's offices.

If you're a hs drop out, then you'd have to meet their other requirements. I finished hs, so I don't know exactly, but I think you would have to have your GED, get accepted into college, do good on your pre req courses in college, then they will think about accepting you into the RT program based on your academic performance.

  • There are therapists that ride in helicopters as a part of a transport team, but flying...that's more of a pilot's job.

  • @mangoomuffin A Respiratory Therapist can fly if he/she has a pilot's license as with anybody. If you are a high school drop out then you would have to go get your GED and take the core and apply to the program. But if you have a criminal record, you will not be allowed to do clinicals or take the certification test.

  • Lol chonkiee you dumbass. Of course this field requires you to use math.

  • does this require a lot of math?? do you have to go to college or can you go to a tech school?? please someone let me know

  • Why are nurses so elitist? I get the same response when I tell them I am going to PA school. Nursing is NOT for everyone. I have worked with RN's that should've done something else. Chillax nurses, dont worry noone will knock you off your thrones especially due to your large lobby. Ever consider the fact that not everyone wants to wipe dookie all day???

  • Comment removed

  • herr2cents, are you even an RN? Matter of fact, are you even a health care professional?

  • @joelseff RN usually dont have to wipe crap all day... they have the LVN's take care of that.

  • You generally need an extended associates in applied science speciallizing in Respiratory Therapy. It takes about 3 years including the clinical practice, Then you have to take 3 board exams. (2 for CRT and state and 1 more for RRT).

  • concorde is not an accredited institution

  • @trishthuyho Are you sure about that?

  • asaifan90, thanks!..can you give me anymore innput on what to expect??

  • well I would say that if you go to an accelerated school like I do, which is a 4 hour a day, 5 days a week from 8 to noon...to devote much of your time after school reading, doing homework and not having much of a life. I just keep in mind that it's not forever. Also, make lots of note cards for each test. If you go to a community college you will have bigger class sizes but it won't be as accelerated which might be better for you...

  • but there will probably be a waiting list. RT's like most in careers in the medical field will not ever be subject to a rise and fall in the economy. Additionally,Hawaii (since you are interested) is one of two states who don't require licensure..but really, taking both the cert test and RRT is a must to make the big$..and be respected..and just type in respiratory therapist in careerbuilder ..with no state or city..same with monster..TONS of jobs all over the country..

  • I'm an RT. My advice to you is work on your math. You don't need the advance math, but you should be really good at College Algebra.

And if you don't want to cram everything in such a short period of time, reviewing the Resp System from Human A and P most def helps.

  • @vi3tb0y04

Why do you say it doesn't beat nursing? you spend less time in school and the pay between RN's and RT's are almost the same??

  • hey thanks for replying, do you know if its in high demand anywhere in the U.S. I live in los angeles, and if i were to ever become an RT, would i be able to work in any hospital i wanted, lets say for example hawaii? And might i add, im Horrible at Math, would i struggle in taking courses since you say its hard??

  • I am about to enter my 3rd term and I can tell you that is isn't easy, and I am AWFUL at math...but with a good instructor it was possible for me to pass it with a B-...and when I first entered that class, I didn't even understand decimals or fractions. I hope you decide to do it. I am glad I did. I struggle, but I will be ok and so will you.

  • Comment removed

  • @runtubefantasy college math is a core which you must complete before even being considered accepted into the RT program.

  • hi, im 20yrs old still living at home with my mom and dad, and i have no job and im not enrolled in school. and for some reason respiratoy therapy keeps poppin up in my head. Is going to a vocational school like say concorde career college well worth it if you wanna get done with school fast and earn good money already, can someone give any advice plz!, i really wanna move out already!!

  • Go for it! Respiratory therapy is a great career. School is really hard, but it goes by so fast. I've never heard of that school, but if you're worried try to find out a little more about the schools reputation. RT beats nursing any day!

  • I'm an RT and it DOES NOT beat nursing. Nursing actually beats RT, but not by much. RN pay is a little higher. If you search for job openings, there are way more RNs than RTs openings.

I love RT, but it does not beat nursing. (people has too much pride...)

  • Do you think the RT program is harder than RN program?
