the bore snake broke on the actual swabbing part there is nothing to pull. if a 7 ton hydrolic doesn't have the power to move the bore snake why would a presusre washer work with a max of 150PSI. My gunsmith even resorted to hydrolicing to try to get it out (draining oil down the barrel till the snake was soaked then inserting a coper plug then inserting the steel rod that is being pushed by the press) so we could get max compressition without the bore snake actualy compressing.
never never agai will I use a bore snake... brand new run it through my swiss arms for the second time. Fing thing gets stuck, the main nylon cord broke (not the string). Gunsmith spent 2 hours tring to get it out with a 7 ton Hydrlic press with no luck. So now a $20 piece of string has officaly writen off a $850 barrel. I am not the only one who has had this happen to them and the army is now banning them on service rifles because they are writing of crown assests.
@TechNeck101 May sound crazy but, take the barrel off gun can and try using a pressure washer to push it out having one person pull on one side and someone using the pressure washer on other side.
yea i have a question i bought the normal boresnake came with the lube oil and the solvent do i have 2 put solvent on the snake or just only put the lube on the end of the snake?
this is waht makes me mad they tell you it does everything but it is only a tool to clean thick grime in the feild whil doing work(trap, target practice, and hunting) not for what i call "in-house work" ie actually cleaning
if you want to really clean to the metal or clean for storage you NEED a convetional cleaning kit. otherwise your leaving copper lead and most of all carbon which all atract moisture and eventually lead to COROSION.
An excellent product! ......But one important thing to note.........if you're cleaning a camo shotgun, be sure to remove the barrel first. If you don't, the brush on that snake may very likely scratch the hell out the camo finish on your receiver. It's best to just take the barrel off and run the snake through it separately.
According to the Hoppe's Gun Cleaning guide they recommend using some No 9 on the first cleaning area above the brash brush on the first pass and then on the second pass using some oil on the tail end of the boresnake for lubrication.
This invention is the best thing on the face of the planet. Took the tiresome traditional cleaning to a whole new level. Bought this today, 11/08/2010 and went to clean my AR, I was so skeptical about this product that I ran it through twice, yet even though the gun was cleaner than ever the first time i passed it, I decided to then clean all my .223 guns and .22 I can recommend this product to anyone who wants to save time FOREVER.
The bore snake works very well without any solvent and this is frequently how I use it. When using solvent, I soak the snake on the parts before the brush..
I just bought this and the reason I looked this up because I wanted to find out if you are supposed to use powder solvent. You just run it through dry then?
i've been shooting for years and using traditional cleaning methods, when 2 weeks ago i picked up a .22 cal and a 12 gauge boresnake, and im blown away with it, best cleaning tool i've used yet
i bought one of these today for my .17 hmr. it was extremely dirty. i put the boresnake through it once and it was spotless. still gotta put lubricent and shit in it thought but it gets rid of obstruction in one go. great product
I'm new to shooting, i own a 12g over and under diamond classic sporting and i own one of these boresnakes, exact same one on this video, do i need to lube the barrel after i clean? because when i bought my gun the barrel was greasy on the inside.
yes you do need to lube it but make sure it is not over loaded with it inside the barrel. just put some gun lube/oil on a ltitle rag and with a metal rod push it down the barrel, should look nice and shiney when looking through the barrel. and when you use the boresnake start at the breach so the dirt doesnt go into the breach.
solvent on the first one soaked in the area BEFORE the brass brushes, do it about 5 times through. second bore snake use oil at the end of the snake once or twice through. remember to clear the oil before firing the next time.

@birdman117BxR there is absolutely nothing a boresnake can't do that a cleaning rod can as long as you apply solvent to it
prove me wrong
tearsinrain86 8 months ago
@tearsinrain86 A bore snake can't be used to knock a stuck cartridge from a chamber. But that isn't really a cleaning function...

can you put no. 9 solvent on the boresnake?
SuperCharged187 1 year ago
What happens if I accidentally run it through the barrel end first and out through the chamber?
EcoWhale 1 year ago
@EcoWhale You'll drag contaminants into your mag well or firing mechanism.

why do you clean a air rifle? Also I have a major question, what can I do to shorten the weight because it can not go into my daisy 880?
branjumba 1 year ago
@branjumba If you don't clean an air rifle, your accuracy could be diminished.
stopglobalswarming 7 months ago
Hoppes bore snake is worth every penny! One pass and the rifle bore look like new again. Also, I can run it through every 10-20 rounds.
I am going to use the bore snake and No. 9 exclusively.

I accidently used the 308 boresnake down my ar just once. Is that enough to ruin my chrome lined ar barrel?
marktse 1 year ago
@marktse No, but you might have messed up the effectiveness of the brass brush on that boresnake.
mrfiux 1 year ago
Do you insert the #9 before or after the brush? Certainly you don't clean it dry as the video shows.

I figured this would ask all my questions but it hardly answered any, so im left to ask,
What kind of cleaner do you put on the bore snake if any, how much, and where?
How exactly do you clean this thing? I had one beofre and i always tried to clean it by hand but it was very difficult,
I also had one before but i found that it didnt clean my gun that well.
I used it mainly for my .270 and my m1 garand

to do it right you need 2 of them.
solvent on the first one soaked in the area BEFORE the brass brushes, do it about 5 times through. second bore snake use oil at the end of the snake once or twice through. remember to clear the oil before firing the next time.
EndtimeJesus 2 years ago
holy crap, i just made a video saying the exact same thing. wow, we a like psychic. where did you get this method from? i've always done it this way.
RetardedAdult 2 years ago
I'd go with a 2 in 1 cleaner. Something that is a solvent and lubricant in one. I would spray it the end that would go in the breech first.
NickEMT 3 years ago
Should solvent go on the bore snake? Solvent near the first part of the snake and oil at the end?
