They don't make tracks like this anymore. Kool Keith completely destroyed the rulebook when it came to rhyming. Rappers are still trying to catch up even 2011 and counting.
@HazardTraining Keith changed the game. I think hes the foundation to alot of rhyme styles, flows and deliveries that came after the mid 80's. Shit he was doing in '85 still goes over peoples heads. Its just an opinion but I looked at Keith as being the greatest just because UMC's came out with so much innovation with the sampling and the break beats.
I've always wondered if "Like fish, it ain't my favorite dish" (1:20 - 1:22) was a Rakim diss, because Rakim says on Paid In Full ("like fish which is my favourite dish).
@exkimo64 Yes, it was. It took me years to figure it out but Kool Keith was going at Rakim hard on that album (see "Ain't It Good To You"). The funny part is most heads didn't really fuck with Ultra like that to even notice, including the MC's he was dissin', lol.
@obglobgablob no doubt!! Keith was my favorite MC back then.. he used to say some outlandish type shit. Like when he says "quickly imma rip your brain off/throw it down, so the blood can drain offa my hands" I mean some visual SHIT!! that is what I liked about his lyrics, close your eyes and make a video to his lyrics in your brain.. was fucking SICK!! back when niggas was talking about Troops and dookie ropes.. These Ultramag niggahs was way the fuck out there.. Still one of my top favorites!
yea Keith had a way of synching with the beat on a whole 'nother level. His lyrics and flow used to fit so perfect to all the beats which by themselves were on another level.
@insanemacbeth True indeed...they were like hip hop's first scientists...the way Ced took scraps of samples, chop'd them up, 'n whip up some 5-star restaurant beats, 'n Keith 'n his patented "off-beat" delivery...SICK!!!

I think this song is exactly where keith started developing his taste for weird sci-fi, offbeat rap

ULTRAMAGNETIC MCs were the first to use extensive vocabulary, and think of abstract concepts.
absolutely classic.
the line "WITH SHADOWS/ HALLUCINATING BATTLES!" was sikk, never mind for 1988.
