I hope all religions and spiritual seekers will help stop sacrificing and killing poor helpless animals out of ignorance ( hunting sports ), to satisfy our bellies and taste buds ! Animals are part of Gods' creation, as a Buddhist, it always puzzle me why so many Buddhists are still eating the flesh of animals even when they live in the West where veggie diet is so avail. Stop killing all animals for food, and in the end humans too will suffer ! Buddha's message is Love Peace and non-violence !

Buddha taught moderation and balance, I don't think not eating for several weeks and meditation non stop for years is the path to enlightenment, Buddha did that for 6 years...I think he is doing a great thing though, but then again I don't understand how this is the "middle path" that was spoken of 2000 years ago.

I dont think you have listened to his speeches. He has clearly said that he wants each person to choose his own path. If he is doing it for his own enlightenment without expecting anything from anybody, without harming anybody, I dont think anybody should have an objection to what he is doing.

You do understand, my good friend! Such middle path is wonderful, indeed.

Still, I feel it's good to remember that each individual have different ways of practice, since we're all different. What we can regard as outrageous, might be easily taken by another one... it all depends on several internal and external causes and conditions. Once all effort is subjective, it seems people has to establish their best way for practicing =)

My observation shows that the Buddha boy won't be able to stop it. Possibly some animal rights organisations might be able to help, but it's not sure. If western organisations and people like Nobel Peace (laureates) ask, maybe could help, but it would need many.

Now it seems to have become a problem in Nepal like the problem with shoes and the Hindus in Pashupati. Now probably no matter what the reality is they will think it is the Buddhists who are making problems.

The Buddha boy wrote to the organizers asking them not to do it but his request was rejected. It is a big Hindu festival and now the Buddha boy is thinking to go there and try to stop it. I think unless one has special powers to show, people will not listen. It is a big religion with not 100 or 1000 followers but millions.

He plans this appearance in order to protest the sacrificing of tens of thousands of animals before they take place on the 24th at the Gadhi Mai Festival near Nijgad in Bara District. I am a catholic, I was about to browsing the discovery documentaries and I landed about the story of Ram Bamjan. His aura radiates so much peace and I can feel the divinity he is trancending. What a grace to be in the state of enlightenment and arrive to it's eternal fruits that only comes from the divine.

Dear Kirk, Yes, Imee Ooi's Guan Yin is beautiful. As for the eating, none of us were allowed to stay with him at night, but I am pretty sure he does not eat, because during the time we were with him, he exhibited no signs of hunger or fatigue, he never had to relieve himself, although the rest of us did, and our stomachs would rumble in protest if we skipped lunch, many of us tried!

Khenpo, thank you for your kind reply. Could I ask you just one more question? Are you saying that everyday, from sunrise to sunset, he did not stand, walk, eat, drink, etc? He just sat in cross-legged meditation for about 16 hours every day?! He didn't even stretch his legs? Is that correct? Sincerely -Kirk

I'm so glad you ask these questions! I was there from 8:00am to 5:00pm everyday, along with at least fifty others. He never meditated, because he was busy blessing people. But he did not move from his lotus position either. He has a thin pad with a yellow cloth over it underneath him on the pedestal. The white cloth that he was wearing slipped from his left shoulder almost continuously and had to be adjusted by the person standing next to him.

What 'signs of hunger' would you expect from him if he was hungry? If he was never hungry, it would be reasonable to assume he had occasionally eaten. How does the curtain/barrier during the night help the suggestion that he is continually fasting (and sitting)?

As far as I can tell, he is a good-natured boy, a bit self-absorbed, and probably fairly comfortable. He also eats, and he occasionally stretches his muscles. Mythologizing him cheapens the goodwill ascribed to his meditation.
