  • yes, too, I love this a n d Milstein with Barzin

    The best period of Prokofiev.....

with the 2nd & 3 rd Piano Sonatas, Chout, ...

  • I discovered this concerto with Milstein and after it remained my favorite interpretation . But Szigeti is wonderful too, I like him immensely in this concerto.

  • billyguns......Does the Korngold Violin Concerto fit in with your three favorite concerti? I am enamored with it....:)

  • Nearly there with Oistrach

  • This generation was romantic of violin-unfortunately -it gone and would not come again-

  • He was the first to popularise this piece I think. Others having failed before him.

  • ...and so that is what he looked like when young.......

  • @j72050 Yes, most of us looked nicely young when we were young)))

  • Forget about Heifetz being the god of violin, Szigeti beats him!

  • Just love his style....wonderful. Miss it.

  • One of my three favorite violin concertos (the others being the Beethoven and Sibelius), in the hands of a master musician; nobody else brings the aching long line, legato, cantabile, and depth of feeling that Sziigeti does to this wonderful music. Other violinists may have had a more solid technique, but none of them surpassed his musicality and musicianship.

  • A great performance. So fine and precise. I am pleasantly surprised. Thanks.

  • Terrific recording. Thanks for the upload. I agree with you Oprheusads, it is 'sophisticated' playing. It's very precise and without fuss.

  • ty for posting this superb recording.

  • wow, that's really interesting.

  • haha. Joshua bell.

  • joshua bell is a noob

  • give him credit. he may not be a perlman or a heifetz but he's definitely a very talented musician who does not deserve all the bashing that he gets.

  • i love szigeti

  • Thanks so much for uploading. I was looking for this recording!

  • do u know how old he was when this was recorded?

  • He was born in 1892, so he was 42-43 at the time.

  • sweet thanks!

  • good heavens this is amazing. I have Oistrakh which is pretty incredible - this is so sophisticated! Love it. THanks so much

  • This is a very good interpretation of this concerto. Thanks for posting

  • This is the first ever recording of Prokofiev's Violin Concerto #1, and still considered by many to be the best. Joseph Szigeti did much to further Prokofiev's music, at a time when Prokofiev was relatively unpopular.

As usual, adding &fmt=18 to the end of the link provides higher quality audio.

  • @UltimateViolin &fmt=18

    u genius.

    thanks?
