Just curious; even doing the organ in addition to the piano is quite an accomplishment. I admire what you have shown here, though was first interested in you on twitter
@RevealUsYourLove Hi RevealUsYourLove. Would be happy to give you a copy of this piece. Just send me a message. =]. Mind you.. this is a piano piece I'm playing, but I formed it into an Organ piece. :P
@321111321 Yes, That's true. Pachelbel did write this awesome piece for organ! But what I meant though, Was is your making the transition from pianist to organist.LOL!
Hello. Sounds good, just a little slow. but congratulations on your taking the time and work on a musical instrument so precious and sublime. Now if you play well in a few years you'll be a great organist. Cristian's father, Buenos Aires, Argentina.
a tad fast but very nicely done. keep it up. classical i love. do whatever you choose to do, and do it well. i hope you choose classical in addition to whatever else you play. not many good classical players left. hardly any young ones. younger folks doing this, will inspire the next generation into doing something that is cool.
willjustice89: Got your last message last night, contact me privately at steamrocks@yahoo.com Tell me what you think of the theater organ rock videos. There are more to come. I am currently rehearsing a very well known 80's metal tune by Iron Maiden. As soon as as I can get a good take recorded, I will post it. Will talk soon.
I read that you are a pianist "making the switch" to organ. Happy transition! As you play organ more, you will get more used to the legato touch it requires (because, unlike piano, you do not have to mechanically strike keys) I certainly hope you stick with it, you have made great strides. Maybe some day you will be introduced to......Theater organ!
@steamrocks Appreciate that, sir =] Yes, I'm trying to get the feel of the organ.. since I've been a piano player for roughly 13 years. I've been able to differentiate the difference in techniques and such. "Little Fugue" by Bach is the piece that I heard that drove me organ bonkers. :P. I live so close to the Alabama Theatre and its theatre organ, the Mighty Wurlitzer. I might go play it someday :P heh.
@willjustice89 For some out-of-the-ordinary theater organ, search my name 'les knoll' on youtube. You will find all pop rock and hard rock stuff on there, from Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody on my studio VirTual theater organ to Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water" on on the giant Atlanta Fox Moller Theater Organ. That might set you in yet a DIFFERENT direction.
@steamrocks I shall do some serious searching! =] Glad the weekend's here. Now, I have a little time to watc some YouTube vids. You seem to be an EXPERT on organs. =] NEATO!
@m173627 Yeah, I was going through the "Church Organ" phase when I started becoming interested in the organ. :P. So, it's all high notes. Since I've kooled down.. I would now probably do a Voix Celeste, Violin and Flute or something....
i must say this sounds good but i agree that its way to staccato :) but still good work and how come you are not playing the organ console in the background of the video?
@bradman366 Yeah... I know.. I had been playing piano for 13 years prior to the organ, hence the staccato.. so, I was still getting used to the organ around the time of the making of this video. I can play more legato nowadays. That organ in the background is just a display organ. heh. IT doesn't work :(
i reely like this my mum played put she has passed wawy now 5 years it makes me want to cry and am getin marred im 3 weeks and havein it at my wedding
It sounds like you just took a piano sheet and played it on the organ. Unfortunately that usually results in the piece sounding like it's being played by a barrel organ. There are a few versions of this song written especially for organ. I suggest you give those a look. The less legato in slow pieces, the weirder it will sound on an organ.
@ROFLMASTER1 Believe it or not.. that's EXACTLY what I did. I played a piano sheet of music, but the reason to that is because around the time this video was made.. I was JUST GETTING INTERESTED in the Organ. So, all of my music before that were 12 years worth of piano music lol. I just had to work w/ what I had.
@willjustice89 My ears rarely deceive me :P. Still technique wise you're good. I suggest you take a look at Mark William's arrangement of the canon. It's for organ and not that difficult to play. It's quite a good peace to practice legato and silent finger changes. It's in this book for example...maybe you can even download it somewhere, I'm not sure though: "From This Day Forward" by Mark Williams.
Awesome Job Will!! I really loved it...I'm going to try this next time I play @ church. If only my organ sounded as good as this one...ours is a digital organ :(
@pifer09 Appreciate it :) Thx! :) - Yeah, I assure you.. today, I would have played that piece w/ violins and a flute or something.. but the time I recorded this video... I was ORGAN crazy and wanted the loud church sound lol.
I loved your playing, good speed to the piece, but I felt it was a little too bright for me, it would be fun to see you build the piece, starting with the flutes maybe 8'. I like the Pedal, but again it was a little too bright. Love the interpretation as well. Keep playing, and remember to put back the stops - LOL
@MasterOfTheKeyz I agree*)! I LOVE the sound of the pipe organ! Now, that's ridiculous.. they told you to stop because of you putting the stops as they were?? Can they not set them back themselves?? It's not a grueling process*) Sorry to hear about that.
This is gorgeous, I am planning to walk down the aisle to this piece in about 3 weeks and wanted to hear how it would sound on a pipe organ. Listening to this I know I've made the right choice, thanks a lot :)
Thanks Hannes193. I actually learned the Canon in D for memory *which is why you see no sheet sitting up on the organ (The only sheet up there is a piece that I have to play for my college) lol.
This arrangement of the CANON is actually for Piano... but it's easy to play it as an Organ piece. Just play the Piano piece and add the first 8 notes in the bass (pedal) over and over (that's what makes it a CANON) :)
Great job! Absolutely FANTABULAMAZING! I'm 14, so I guess this song is a little abnormal for me to have stuck in my head, but, HEY, who cares! You are terrific! I doubt Pachelbel envisioned this piece being watched by thousands of people on YoutTube... Especially since the computer wasn't invented then :D Splendid!
Hi advisorC101. Canon in D is a real good piece and it's not really that hard to learn. Yeah, it's the very first actual organ I've played. The closest I ever came before this was playing "Organ" set on a small electronic keyboard.
That's great! Same here I only started about three months ago playing actual pipe organs but my first piece is quite a crazy acomplishment but this is quite relaxing.
Just curious; even doing the organ in addition to the piano is quite an accomplishment. I admire what you have shown here, though was first interested in you on twitter
