I love how the car looks. It is absolutely beautiful. However, It looks like a standard transmission and no doubt, NO power steering. I would love to ride around in that but I sure would not care to drive it a whole lot and NO WAY would I want to parallel park that.
It doesn't look as though it had been driven in a long while. How did they keep it from rusting? Except for the dust, it looked to be in almost pristine condition.
i have a 54 its a black sport coupe the paint isnt orginal but its all there it has a corvette offenhauser intake manifold for a 54 blue flame six a 3 single barrel setup the stock manifold is in a container IS THIS CAR STILL FOR SALE!!!
same situation here. Im 16 and im working my butt off this summer for a 54 chevy bel air in blue for $4000 it runs fine. Im sick of all the guys driving around my school with 94 corollas thinking their hot sh*t.
I'm in the exact same boat as you! I'm going to take Auto Shop classes, buy a nice Bel Air, and really stand out of the norm! Beautiful car, good luck with your search.
My dad has a 54 Bel-Air 2dr sedan....in 54 they had 235 ci. straight six called the Blue Flame six..manual transmissions had 115 hp and the automatic 2 speed had 125 hp..They were gasoline engines.
when i was a kid my grandfather had one of these. It had a six cylinder with a 2 speed automatic transmission. It was a blue and white 4 door. As I remember these cars had a pretty good reputation for reliability in their day.
Cool that it's original, but the sedans aren't really worth much. Especially the 6. Slow and reliable as can be, but not really desirable. Good old 3 on the tree!
I think the six cylinder was all those came with. If I recall my Chevy history, the first V-8 they offered was in 1955 (the 265 cid, which is basically the genesis of the small block engine.
A dealer added little perk..originally a lot of the glove box doors had circular depressions for holding cups, but not very effective because they were very shallow and the door itself would be lethal in a crash if opened! :) Jack
The strangest thing happened today... an hour after I watched this video, I went out to the grocery store, and what do I see on the side of the road but a 1955 Bel Air for sale! Looked very very similar to the one in your video.
Yes, they said it did and it looks in fully functional capacity, even with a new 6-volt battery. I know I couldn't afford to buy it so I didn't bother the seller with trying to start it up or drive it.
OH HOLY CRAP!!! take out a bank loan! Sell your house! Just gather up the money and BUY THAT CAR!
I would LOVE to own a car like that. Heh, anyone would love to own a car like that. Actually, I had a friend in particular who would seriously go all the way down to Texas just to buy it.
And couldn't you just imagine some '50s gangsters cruising around in that thing?
There must've not been many people in Littlefield, Texas back then, with only a three-digit phone number for the dealer! Overall, it is ripe for a good restoration: starting with a solid original car is much better than trying to undo the mistakes of a previous poorly-done restoration.
It's funny, 3 years later would be the model everybody collects. Did I see air conditioning? That would be unusual. It looks like a 6 cylinder? A v8 would be better in a car as heavy as that. Quite a nice example though. You should buy it!
It does have an "air" control but I think it is just for fresh air/recirculated air into the heater/vent system and not AC...it did not have an AC compressor on it.
why is it that the older cars like this one look so much better than todays cars?

@FromUR2UB There is no salt used on roads around here and it hardly ever snows so we don't have the rust problems from salt.

Now that I think about it, you're right. 55 was the first year for the v8. My mistake.

Nice vid, good closeups..I would want to see what was under those seatcovers before any negotiation began, though. :) Jack

What a great find! Was the cup holder in the glove box some kind of dealer-installed aftermarket option?
