  • excellent video...would be great to use with persons who are newly diagnosed and their family. thank you for uploading this, another excellent use of the internet.

  • i have schizotypal add tourettes ptsd ocd etc etc am i mental, i do feel normal.. whe im ALONE hahah

  • i have mental disorder lol can some one please be there for me i have borderline personality disorder and social anxiety :(

  • Yvonne, you are so brave to disclose and tell your story.

  • @1982FMJ What the fuck are you on about? She says it's treatable, she implies she was ill for many years but is now better. What are you saying that instead of letting people who've experienced mental illness first-hand talk about it, we should film the ones who are too ill to cope with that and explain their condition? Ones with physical problems also so they look extra-pitiful? Fuck off!

  • @1982FMJ well its a still a behavioal disorder but, i have had such a shit time with anxiety and i speak " normal" and i do when i'm at home, why ? because its my comfort zone! people say whats wrong with you you sound normal. but i'm not fine, i'm agoraphobic and that is nott fine . you can sound fine or as you put it "normal person" and still have a massive problem. " and combined with physically handicapped problems" you make it sound like physical problems are..somehow more important...

  • a high percentage of people who claim they are mentally ill don't actually want to use the health services to get better but just want to play it as being invalids to get the benefits money. these people make me sick as there are individuals who want ot use the mental health services to get help and not just claim benefits. alot of these people are just wasting psychiatric services and drugs. people who want help to return to a normal life dont get it as the resources are wasted on them

  • @1982FMJ Ah wait you're a troll. My bad.

  • Dear Yvonne, It has been a year since you put this video out of yourself but just in case you happen to read this I want you to know that there is a very real possibility that you are not mentally ill. You see there is no test that can determine whether you are mentally ill or not. So believe what you want but if there is a possibility that I'm not mentally ill I'm taking it. After all if you can't trust yourself who can you trust?

  • my son was diagnoised with this illness.17 days ago he has lost him mind.i cant get him back to get him help.if you have any input for me getting him help please write.i just want to shake him and tell him to stop.he has had this illness for 2 yrs 5 months. got mis diagnoised and stop taking his meds. he was fine for 14 months and then bam!! it came back.dont know what to do.he thinks he is god or god like. higher power.but he thinks he doesnt need help so what do you do. t-y beth mom of robbie

  • @xXDannyBoyXx1000

Bipolar is a modern day term we have. Our society makes you feel like you are an invalid if you dont agree with everyone else. In many cultures, your son could be experiencing a religious experience. What you should do is not judge him for it, and let him work it out for himself. Life is mad if you really think about it.

  • @JacobsJaffa its hard to let him work it out on his own because he has little ones at home that love him and dont understand.he is with me and his wife and kids are with her parents.we are trying to give him time to work it out he did for 14months. but his family rely on him for support.i am a true believer in my son.he is angry right now this morning.i get afraid to say anything to him.i couldnt sleep last night because i am afraid.its him being mad that drives me nut. he needs help.but where

  • @xXDannyBoyXx1000

Imho mental health services in this country are archaic and just instituionalize you without ever dealing with you and your "problem". For some people they work, not for me, as I believe the greatest gift we all have in this world is to think for ourselves, wherever that may lead. What your son needs to decide is how far he is willing to go listening to his god-like voice. It sounds like his anger is because he is in limbo between that and his family, he is not sure what

  • @xXDannyBoyXx1000

to do. He needs to decide does he want to pursue his higher self, which may result in total abandonment of everything he holds dear or does he want to help his family and young ones out. Only he can decide this and whatever decision he takes he is entitled to as we all are entitled to do whatever we want. This limbo land does not help him or his loved ones. Only HE can decide.

  • @xXDannyBoyXx1000 Hi Their are options.I no at this time you maybe very frustraed with him but things can be sorted. Google Bernie Owen Damaged Minds

  • Quit thinking of it as a mental illness. Use it and embrace it into something positive. You can do this, anyone can. Look at Beethoven and thousands of others.

  • @MassagePatriot i'ts not ever something positive. beethoven would have made just as great music without it. i know after ive been diagnosed and taking medication that personally as a musician i am much better and enjoy music more.

  • @MassagePatriot I appreciate the positive viewpoint, but depending on your condition that is much easier said than done. Some people with mental illness struggle to even get their feet on the ground in the morning and between medication, therapy, and reactions from society, it can be extremely difficult to 'quit thinking of it as mental illness.' The incredible experience of fighting through mental illness can be useful, but I assume you do not identify with any mental illnesses.

  • when I talk about feeling abandoned I feel really whiny I don't want bring it up with my parents anymore...I can do this on my own whatever it is anyway meds will just make me fucked up

  • I think that people just don't understand until something like this happens to someone they love. I know I didn't understand until it happened to my son. Now I feel very deeply for those who suffer. Thanks for making this video. There's lots of people who care.

  • if only people could realise that it is often their prejudices, bigotry and ignorance that create these illnesses in people in the first place

  • another great ambassador and representative for people with mental health problems

  • Thanks Yvonne. This took courage. We need to be included. It means so much when people do that.

  • Thanks to all those involved this clearly shows the illness has no barriers to age, race or gender. We are all facing the same conditions and consequences. Attitudes must change. But lets start with some in the Health sector who still dont get it. Even with pieces of paper saying they are specialist Drs. This is where myself and others have had the most discrimination. And I can prove this. Society will be less tolerant to it when we deal with the systems discrimintaion.

  • I was diagnosed as schizoaffective-depressive type w/paranoid feautures along with hypothyroidism, and bipolar depression. I have very few friends and prefer it this way as I prefer to spend my time alone or with one or two people(rarely). Friend issues never got to me. Family has. My parents think I'm normal. Dad says I don't need meds, mom says I should take them cause doc says to. Overall good vid. Prejudice is real. People get scared off by what they don't understand or can't accept.

  • wow...very touching <3

  • Dude, you sound exaclty like me. I was diagnosed with schizaffective disorder and I have hypothyroidism. I am sick of how people are discrimanting against us or people don't want to take the time to understand. I've had problems amking friends. People blow me off and it's sickening.

  • I have problems making friends too.

  • It's nice to know someone who goes through the same things I go through. You would be a good friend to me.

  • You night be a good friend to me too.

  • It's always good when people who understand you and accept you for you you are.

  • The fact that many people you used to be your friends and acquaintances won't even acknowledge you exist, even when you reach out to them, is one of the most painful parts of having a mental illness.

  • Yvonne thank you for having the courage to do this video. Bear this in mind - a friend that ceases to be a friend - Never was one.,

    All the best to you.

  • i had the same experience!

  • Great stuff, thanks.

  • Well done Yvonne!
