Thank you so much for your video. I am about to attempt my first handmade quilt for my new neice to come. Hopefully it will spark a new start for me. I'm getting really excited and can't wait to get started. Did you create the pattern of the quilt in this video or did you find it somewhere? It's really precious and would be great to aspire to. Also, do recommend any particular batting for baby quilts opposed to normal bedding quilts?
Your quilt needs to be a little loose in the frame so you can push the fabric up from under the quilt with your index finger. You start with the needle standing straight up, feel the needle point barley touch your finger under the quilt, then when you lay the needle back you gently push your index finger underneith up to make like a little mountain, this is how you get the small stitch. If you watch my video on thimbles about the 4 minute mark I do a little demo & see more rocking motion
@handsewwantabe This is my momma’s video and she says it at 6:35 or so when you stand the needle straight up and you push it down you stop when you feel the point of the needle feel you’r finger underneath, once you feel it touch lay the needle down give it a little push then stand it back up and repeat to continue the stitch! hopw this helped! more videos to come!!!
About 3 years ago I didn't go into my sewing room for a year also. Now I'm back and can't imagine why I took a year off of sewing. Of course I was very active with the quilting world selling notions and traveling to shows, but creating my projects is my real passion.. A good day is when you can sew, garden, cook and enjoy friends and family......We all know making the top is the best part, but you do need to finish them, thats when you get to enjoy the "fruits of your labor". :)
you are talented! phenomenal! love it, thank you for sharing your skills. i taught myself to quilt at age 24, im 35, took a year off, but i have this calling to go back.. i see all that fabric i had collected just looking so sad and all the tops i have that i had finished but never quilted. this is inspiration for sure!

There are many tutorials about rocking the needle, the thumb on top but what is happening with the hand below? do any of the fingers apply pressure?
Thank you.
