Hmm...well, I don't actually know ANY of those programs, so I can't really give you advice as far as that goes...
But as for the music iteself, it really just depends on what kind of game it is. For an action game, you probably want something fast-paced that gets the adrenalin pumping. for an adventure game, you probably want something more low-key (like when characters are wandering around town, or something moody and spooky as they explore a cavern), stuff like that.
Just think about the type of game it is and work from there. Think of it as if it were a movie - the music should convey the right kind of "mood" depending on what's going on in the game.
Yeah, I should really give an update on the show... Needless to say, September didn't happen! Not sure exactly WHEN it'll be premiering, but it IS still in the works. All I'll say is it's gonna ROCK when it's done. ;)
Nice! Are you hardware based or software based? What do you use? I'm slowly getting back into music... I have a separate music channel called VectorPlastic... check it out.
I'm mainly software based, although I do use some hardware (effects box, audio mixer, mics). All of the Two Guys stuff is made using samples of our own voices, or sounds made with whatever we find laying around the house. The only rule is NO INSTRUMENTS. :) This particular song contains nothing but sounds made with our voices.
I use CoolEdit Pro to record and process the samples, then assemble everything into songs using MadTracker (a shareware sequencer program).
I should mention also that this is one of our more "proper" songs. A lot of our stuff is flat-out experimental, stream of consciousness-type stuff, in which case we basically perform the whole thing live using the effects box for looping and effects, then record it to the computer for final processing and clean-up as required.
