I'm very please a lot of people like this song I have good memories recording this song Thank you all.
p.s. th eopening photo on this you tube video is incorrect Gwen Dickey did not sing this song written by my dear friend Norman Whitfield rest in peace my freind..Leanard Jackson Chieff Eng. Whitfield Record
Takes me right back to walking down Magsaysay Drive in Olongapo City, Philippines outside Subic Bay Naval Station.....I was on a right of passage....becoming a yound man....surrounded by whore houses hahahahaha lord what great memories...
@synbadify Clark airforce base 18yrs old.1981, this song used to play every day at the chow hall.love the philipines .we had a competition '1st to bang 500 girls ,impossible in 18 months,i got tired and became a marriage counselor at the nco club lol..deros back to atlanta georgia 1983 .im standing in the airport, grace jones 'the apple stretching' is playing on the radio as i read the headline for news weekly, ''AIDS THE NEW EPIDEMIC''. that was some serious shit!
@ohmphthschwrhu Hahaha...yup, I was in the Philippines back in 81 on wes-pac in the Navy.....sitting in a resturant with one of the bar girls....listening to songs like this on the jukebox.....great memories...great times....
I loved this song when I heard it the first time on German radio but never knew who sang it. After I got married to an american and came to the US for the first time my sister in law gave me the vinyl for christmas. I'm forever grateful to her and I still have it in the original album cover. I play this album and all the other great albums from the 70's all the time. They don't make music like this anymore. I don't care who's sampling from the old music it will never be the same.
This song takes me into a Dreamland That I don't want to return from. I don't remember this in the 80's. This Classic is on the same level as "I wanna get next to you", maybe even a little better.
growining up this was my lilttle brothers favorite song, butwe never knew knew who sang it.when i found it on youtube i was so exited to show him.i figured after the holidays i will have him come over and i would play it for him...he died Dec 25th of this year. so i will just have to play it for him in Paradise!
@oldschoolyvonne You have my condolences. Yes this is a beautiful song and I do believe your brother is enjoying it in heaven. Peace & Blessings ~ Cheryl
@oldschoolyvonne OMG! That is so sad. I am so sorry to hear that. I lost a friend that was like a brother to me the week before Christmas this year so I kind of know how you feel. I'm trying to maintain but it is so hard. I pray that God keeps you and your family in his grace. He's the only one getting me through at the moment. Stay strong.
i remember the words to this song clearly....i forget who my girl was back then...i was young though....beautifull song...slow tunes nowadays lack body,music,emotion...only sexual or dramatic...this is music
Lovely & precious this song is. Have mercy. It brings back memories I haven't felt in a long time. I'm very emotional right now because my dear sister is not with me on this side of earth. We had some good times. I thank God the the 40 years He gave us. Songs can play very important roles in a life. The memories are 2 precious & powerful. Magical. Thank God for memories, they're golden, touched by love.
Wow!...what an incredible Singer Gwen Dickey is. I never knew that she was so young when she sang this ballad as she sounds so vintage... just a perfect vocal. I heard her sing on TVOne's Unsung and she sounds even better now...gorgeous voice.
Actually, the singer is not Gwen Dickey. By this time, Gwen was replaced by Ricci Benson in 1980. This was Ricci's first album with Rose Royce until 1987 when she parted the group.
A Masterpiece composition produced by Norman Whitfield (I met him outside Motown Records on Sunset Blvd in Hollywood, California) the same day Marvin Gaye received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
