  • Written by Carolyn Franklin, Aretha's late sister, and beautifully recorded by Aretha on a 1974 album, released as a single but it didn't do very well on the record charts. I never heard this version before ... interesting interpretation of the song. Thanks for posting it here.

  • Thank you sir, may I have another! I love the Jukes, & the SMS Wall Of Idiots production! :-) Got all the albums that matter. Wished I had the warmup jacket.

  • Can someone please post "First Night" off the same LP as this song ? A doo-wop song good enough to stand up to most anything from the 50's !

  • I also have this song on a 45 record, which is shorter edited version. The album cut is the complete one, and definitely the best version. This may be their best song.

  • I opened the show for Southside with Jon BonJovi on Guitar 1990 CPI Long Island that was a bigger thrill than opening for Bill Cosby! Thansk for making this video! I've listened to this song hundreds of times! Dr. Rupert Opie (Noel Murphy)

  • 1st three Jukes albums - Best music in the world. Man..!

  • @SaddleCat1 Bingo!

  • Thanx for posting! Never knew it was released as a single. WMMS in Cleveland Ohio wa the only station playing it Of course Kid Leo never waited for a record. ( See liner notes on first Southside LP).

  • @chasjohn57 What happened to WMMS.. I moved away, I come back years later... I'm like... WTF!! I remember summer concerts at Blossom.. watching SSJ.. a few were in the rain!! Mud slides on the hill at Blossom. hahaha Good times!!

  • @naxxie123 Your right. Few of the stations don't even have a format. V107.3 was playing some old live "MMS" tapes from the vault but they Don't do it as much.

  • Doesn't Bon Jovi have a song called Without Love. It's on Slippery when wet I think

  • This summer I stayed in Ocean Grove, NJ, about half a mile down the boardwalk from Asbury Park. It just so happens that I was one of 2 people in the Silverball Hall of Fame, a pinball museum on the boardwalk, when this band came in and had their puctures taken playing pinball! I didn't know it was them at the time, however...

  • When this song came out I was positive it was going to be a big Top 40 hit for the Jukes. And yet, nothing. WPLJ in NYC played this song a lot and was the most requested for a while. A great song written by Aretha Franklin & I.J. Hunter. I never heard her version either.

  • I was looking for "Some Things Just Don't Change" but this is one I almost forgot and just as good.

  • Ever since I heard this song for the first time and found out it was an Aretha Franklin song, I've been trying to find Aretha's recording. Anyone know where it can be found?

  • "All night long, she spoke to meee---she whispered in my eeeaar......beneath that sweet, soft melody....."

Sweet, beautiful song! Poetic lyrics. Lush orchestration. Now I remember.

I was looking for "Little Girl So Fine" written by Springsteen, performed by Southside Johnny. It's not here, but this is (almost) as melodic and romantic.....

  • Now, with this one, the only song called "Without Love" that I could think of before I clicked on this one to hear it was by Tom Jones. I don't know this song. And, yes, I can see some "Without Love" by Tom Jones videos listed in the Related Videos box right now.

  • Unless you are a fan of SOAP music, which is Bruce Springsteen, Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes, or the E-Street Band, you will NOT know this song.

But those who are familiar with those above artists will instantly recognize the unique sound that is indeed SOAP.

This sound all started at a club in Asbury Park called "The Stone Pony".

  • I like the sound of a lot of the songs by these performers, but I haven't always gotten to hear them (and, admittedly, haven't sought them out, which maybe I should do). To others reading this, when this video was first posted, it was only titled "Without Love". Had the artist name been included, I wouldn't have gone through the artist guessing game before I clicked on this video (which had shown up in my Subscriptions box) and only come up with Tom Jones.

  • @WABCRADIO77 Oh how well I know the Stone Pony... I used to live on 6th Avenue off of Kingsley.. what a time and place for music!!! :) I miss the area and most of all, the music. <3
