@reeread Yeah sometimes the inflection of humor doesn't translate to web posts. I get what you're saying, he does much better when he gets to use it, versus not having it in his chops library. This is a very popular riff used by today's mod metal dudes....but it really started back 30 years ago or so with the jazz fusion cats like, michael walden, tony williams, simon phillips, dave weckyl, and billy cobham....you gotta dig those guys....

But I gotta tell ya....even though there were a lot of 32nd notes in this little example, I don't think I played any trips....

tell me of this ' straight time ' you refer to. once, I did some time in a prison on the planet Hoth and I kept insisting that I was straight! The Michael Walden Fill is a great riff to use in drum solos, like the one that I won in 1996, a little thing called the Guitar Center Drumoff. It's also good in fusion bands, new metal bands, and if you really want to piss off your other bandmates, use it in 'brown eyed girl'....lotsa laughs! , I'm off to do my dance gig...so, what is a grasshopper?

Seriously, that does sound killer! He use that on Visions of the Emerald Beyond anywhere? One of my favorite records ever! (Mahavishnu Orquestra). I wish you would have given one more at interim speed, like mid speed, so I could have heard the lick develop. Sweet playing man. Thanks for that.
