Really excellent. Thank you so much. I have heard several performances, but this is one of the very best. All the players play as one united whole. Sensitive, deep and human. Bravo!
He was born in 1946 and studied in Bern, Lausanne and Paris with J. Lancelot and then won 1st prize at the International Geneva competition along with "Prix Ernest Ansermet" in 1972. From 1971 to 1986 he was principal clarinetist of the Berner Symphonie-Orchester, then occupied the same position in the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne until 2008
He performed worldwide, appeared at events such as the Lucerne, Gstaad, São Paulo festivals, and many more. He premiered pieces by composers like Sandor Veress etc. And for his recording of the Mozart concerto (which is really one of the very best) he received a Gold Record from Claves.
He was also a very fine chamber musician and a much dedicated teacher giving masterclasses worldwide and leading a class at the Conservatoire de Genève from 1978 until his death in April 2008 in Madeira where he had a trekking accident. Here you go!
What wonderful playing. I wanted to learn more about this fine musician and looked him up on Wikipedia only to find a single line entry. Can I encourage one his his many dear friends who have made comments below to write a note on his life and work...
This had to be composed in the winter.

Brahms came out of retirement IN ORDER to write this, and the two sonatas, because he met and heard the remarkable clarinetist Richard Mühlfeld.

Wasn't this what Brahms composed when he came out of retirement?
Absolutely divine! It's most enjoyable... love the rendition! Amazing clarinetist, by the way.
