In order to have a successful show in another city, it's smart to call the more popular artists in that city to get their support. Otherwise nobody might show up to your show. I'm guessing they're saying to call the artists who are connected to the streets, who show up at venues, shows, clubs, etc. Famous rappers like Em or Snoop don't hit up clubs or shows like that in their spare time. Also, I've seen this happen first hand in Long Beach where I live. An artist from Atlanta came here to do a show. A lot of hip hop fans are just straight up vicious sometimes, to be honest. If he hit up Crooked, hell, even on Myspace, I think it might have turned out differently and they might have given him a chance. I've seen Crooked show love at a ton of shows/clubs here with no-name rappers.

You do not have to call each one individually, just make a call and let yourself be announced. Follow the rules, common respect, and everything goes fine.
