  • How fucking blind must you be to not see that this is a level 6...

  • My computer nearly died at level 4, this is 400 times more complex. You must have a beast of a machine.

  • COOL!

  • N will love this.

  • when I saw this I said: "whew! level 4!" Then I looked closer and I said: "shit! It's really level 6!"

  • I see 6.

  • God, the holes that make the menger sponge level 6 are about 1 pixel at most! On the higher resolution picture it's much clearer... when I zoom in!

  • Can this be useful in architecture?

  • WHAT IS THIS SONG?!

    It's in every commercial lol

  • The Menger sponge simultaneously exhibits an infinite surface area and encloses zero volume.

  • @amishnation only at an infinite number of iterations.

  • this is the atom the 8x8 grid the blueprint for all forms

  • this is the atom

  • Does the Menger Sponge have a purpose besides being awesome?

  • @rossvistamail A Merger Carpet (the side of the Songe) is found to be the best shape for a cell phone antenna.

  • woah. That first time the camera rotates around while inside the cube, I suddenly felt very small. As if I was looking around in a colossal structure somewhere.

  • Would it be possible to design & build actual buildings using the Menger Sponge as a model?

  • I dare someone to make this on Minecraft

  • @shadowstrikr101 I'm currently making one made out of stone (yes, smelted cobblestone) in single player. It's a level 3 menger sponge, but it still requires 8000 blocks :D To give you an idea: that's 125 spaces of 64 stone.

  • Reminds me of an apartment complex I lived in...

  • There MUST be a way to render such fractals in infinite levels. It's like solving a limit problem. You can approach the model the hard step-by-step way (infinite amount of steps is required), or you can take a straight direct way to the solution model.

  • So theoretically, this thing has no volume because there is no water displacement if you try to measure it?

  • eww mac

  • Reminds me about the movie "Silk" where they catch ghosts in Menger sponges :)

  • Sounds like Prodigy.

  • It looks very absorbent.

  • The song is called "Guitar's Tribute" by "Pure Sound Destiny"

  • I'm thinking this is only level 4 Menger sponge...not 6

If this is level 6, you need a LOT more detail to see the 1st two levels.

  • @kenyablonsky At this resolution you cannot see much but I assure you this model is level 6. A high resolution render shows all the detail of a level 6 sponge.

  • @shakaenjb At this resolution I can see only 5 squares with different sizes. Where is the video with higher resolution?

  • @kenyablonsky

at 0:12 you can see all 6 levels

  • @kenyablonsky It's just moving to fast. Even if you could see it properly it would be hard for your brain to process the whole thing. Try looking at the hi res image. Even when its static and in high detail it is nearly impossible to register how many iterations it is at. I dont think possible to clearly perceive anything over 3 iterations.

  • @kenyablonsky

no it looks at least like a level 5. Trust me i made a level 4 and it looks nothing as vast as this one.

  • @kenyablonsky This is level 6 :)

  • @shakaenjb what is the name on the song?

  • @ThaTbager sorry not sure what the song is called

  • what exactly is a menger sponge?

  • @cursemarkfan it's a cubic fractal. A fractal is a shape which theoretically can be expanded infinitely using the same shape over and over again.

  • what is a Menger Sponge?

  • a kind of fractal, unlike others, it's in 3D

  • made in the usa post it co loves you

  • Impressive! Although, I doubt that level 6 holes are visible since there is probably not enough screen pixels to sample them :)

  • thanks, I it took a while to render this animation. I have a high res image of this model if you would like it. I can send it your email, I have a couple of other images that my interest you.

  • @shakaenjb could you do that for me? My e-mail is cassiopiaoakes@yahoo.com. Please send me this stuff!

  • I can't get beyond level 4 on my system (and that is taking an hour and a quarter to render each frame in the current animation.) This is beautiful and impressive. I'm animating the use of tremas to make the holes in the sponge, though, so I still have something to contribute - in a few days when the render is finished!

  • cool!
