@egibbys And I don't care if you don't care that I hate VW, by the way i have an 84 rabbit diesel and it sure as hell does make major valve tapping noise, I've had bent valves before and it doesn't even sound that bad.
soooooo true.. i have a 2009 tdi of my own the 2.0 litre tdi. but man i love the start up sound of ur 1.9tdi. its jus so much louder and u hear the motor unlike mine which is quite quiet these day. regardless good response to that dumb-asses comment.
@BuzasKseries That "valve tapping noise" would be diesel fuel combusting after being compressed to kindling temp inside of the engine. This is a pretty common sound from what's called "Diesel Engines". Type "Diesel Engines" into the search bar, you will notice that "terrible valve tapping noise" in just about 100% percent of these engines. Listen to this sound long enough along with watching what these motors can do, and it will soon be the most beautiful sound your ears have ever beheld!
Hey ! I have the same but i did a fuel pump signal modified that is ajustable with a potentiometer insted a chip set that cost 300-400 $ ! it is awesome the power ! It smoke black and burn tire in 2 geard ! new clutch ( not the dual mass)
non more EGR shit and the crank case vent under the car insted in the intake ! 60mpg stuck turbo vnt-15 with 15 psi +/- 230 Hp ! 355 000 km and start very fine at -21 C Nice video! Max.
the TDI is a turbo charged motor with diesel injected directly into each individual cylinder. it is a technology that has been used in transport diesel trucks for decades.
Providing better economy with more horsepower and torque. In other words f*****g awesome design.
yes 10 pounds is low but with the chip and other mods we are still pushing around 210 hp
and yes i have been on that site before and it is filled with stupid things and people have no idea what they are talking about....... and i do not work a VW dealership i work for a VW / Audi specialist where we do pretty much only TDI's
and Turbo Direct Injection makes no sense explain to then why it would be Turbo Direct Injection......and not Turbo Diesel Injected
@VWmasterkid I'm not going to try and explain to you why it is one thing over another. Use google. Type "What does TDI stand for?" Not hard to find an answer. Its all over the place.
@KingOfTheClutch Wikipedia is not a very good source since anyone can put anything on there. This is pulled directly from the Manufacture's Repair Manual.
"Engine......Turbo Direct Injection (TDI)" I rest my case.
They are not mediated by Wikipedia. Its done by users. Wikipedia has under 20 employees no way they could monitor every single page and review every page.
@VWmasterkid because there is two types of diesel engine one you almost never see or hear about that is indirect injection or "IDI" and direct injection and since the engine is turbo charged it mean turbocharged direct injection it is a much better and cleaner way of getting the fuel into the cylinder
@VWmasterkid so your saying that a turbo and diesel fuel are injected into the cylinders then? Why would it not stand for Turbo Direct injection, if its got both that would make sense
no..... i am a volk wagen mechanic and TDI stands for Turbo Diesel Injected........ not Turbo direct injection that makes no sense........
car sounds good just put a limited slip tranny in a 2001 TDI and put a 17 inch turbo on and running about 10 pounds of boost with a chip and other stuff.... .car is putting out around 200 hp and she halls ass lol
@VWmasterkid Sorry but it does stand for Turbo Direct Injection. Check out tdiclub.com. Just because you are a mechanic doesn't mean you know anything about TDIs. Dealerships are extremely hated on tdiclub for their lack of knowledge base with the TDI motor. And 10 pounds of boost is extremely low. I'm running a stock turbo with a tune and I'm at 18 psi. This is normal.
sounds really good... i'm hopefully gonna get a passat when i'm 18 and havin a mechanic for a brother comes in handy cuz he's gonna straight pipe it for free :L any have any advice bout anything else i could i'd appriciate any comments
lol this ones quiet. i just took my gf's car to the muffler shop and had a 3 1/2in pipe from the down tube back. now i just have to wait for her to get home i'v got a nice surprise lol. your car sound really good tho, my gf's sounds like a cummins at about 2000 rpm's lmfao. man i'm in trouble
@ApSykesThewolf The muffler does not filther the exhaust in any way. You may be refering to the 2009 version and yes you would not want to do this with that car. This car is not one of the new clean diesels made by VW. A TDI is a turbo diesel. I don't see what you are getting at.
@djpickle68 Yep you are right, but nobody would have a clue if I was to say mufflerectomy. This setup whistles and whistles as well but obviously ya can't capture all of the audio with a digital camera.
I also straight piped my '01, and chipped it. She sounds pretty good, but I think that bigger injectors are in order. "more black smoke" when stomping on it would be cool. haha
yeah but theres a way round it,if u take the cat out and empty it,cutting the hole frm the "unseen" end,and simply weld it back over, also,do the same with the middle box and replace the back box with pipe, make sure the back bit of pipe is clamp not weld, then simply replace the back box for inspection.and bobs ur uncle lol
whoever gave me a negative comment can suck my sack. on my 97 powerstroke there was only a cat and muffler, just like on basically every other diesel truck. i guess diesel cars are different
sounds amazing!
is that little whistle, when you start it up, the turbo spool or just the engine breathing?

doesnt that just ruin the purpose of having a TDI?
i mean one of the reasons is for the Tdi Particle Filter to clean out the soot.....
if you remove that... you just have a turbo diesel..... and that you should of just bought a old Mercedes......

Yeah the black smoke is partially burnt fuel. It can be caused by very low boost. But in most cases its due to normal turbo lag or over fueling.
