Yes, the military is awesome that way. But that is a side issue - I love D&D and think that these soldiers are pretty cool to be playing it even despite the horrific circumstances they are in. HOAH! Go Army!

Lets see here...to sum it up, he military is a massive instrument of terror that is used by those in power for political leverage, and to enforce the exploitation of people around the world. Among those exploited are children whose prefrontal cortexes have not fully formed and are now living a life of violence (either due to misinformed guidance from thier elders or out of economic hardship). Some get out alive, some don't, others develop a warped worldview that justifies killing.

@sawyer82nd That's not just any safety vest, it's a Vest of Protection +2(goes in a cloak slot). Provides an +2 AC deflection bonus but also has a chance to deflect a direct spell leveled 5 or lower(DC 16). Reflex saves are also automatic for spells leveled 5 or lower.

Pathfinder > 4e, but then as a civilian I can see the benefit of customization and and flavor at the tradeoff of having to have either a laptop or lots of books to sift through; 4th edition is more compact (especially with Essentials) and much more tactical than flavorful.

I loved 4e until essentials (effectively 4.5), because it changed the entire design philosophy from this free modular thing where you could really customize even a fighter to a greater degree than ever before, to the same old thing with less flavor and less variety overall. I think it would have been fine had they not scrapped most of this year's line including the 4e/Essentials crossover/conversion book.

I really enjoy playing DnD with my friends. We all have our abilities on cards and the character sheets and other important stuff in folders, which makes it that much more enjoyable. Also we use the DnD turn tracker, an awesome free programm that tryks down encounters completely making the dm's life more easy and displaying everything for the players they need to know. -> so awesome! :D

The only reason these guys haven't been seperated from the army is because recruitment was so low a few years back. @ejleaveck I was infantry over in Afghanistan. Not on a big base, I was out in the middle of nowhere on a tiny ass COP. We always made sure that our shit was in orde before we even THOUGHT about playing or doing anything else. In terms of being useless, I'm pretty sure that some of out most highly decorated guys were avid D&D players....Its all about the person, not the game. We made it work.
