  • What can you use this for? As a car computer? What applications are compatible? I was thinking of using it with a Mimo monitor and running GPS, music and video, car diagnostics, etc. Is this possible?

  • Well done.

  • Dude could you quiet down this video is way too fucking loud

  • Where are there "BASIC Instructions" on how to run this thing natively when you take it out of the box? I've got an older version (Model 003-SP1001) and I've yet to use it.

  • can you install debian on this?

  • I dont understand, why would i want to buy this?

  • @mememe84 You can run a web server 24/7 on only 10 watts. Can run NoteShare Linux software from AquaMinds to have a quick and dirty website in minutes that customized simply.

  • @mememe84 i think the potential of it will be similiar to an ipad later in developement but i'm guessing, it's easy to carry a full computer in your pocket and you can do alot with it unlike ipad or ipods wish i had one :(

  • will this run chrome os?

  • Well that's awesome and all, but it is coming up on a year since this video was posted and there has been no info about how they got this up and running.

  • OMG that's awesome.

  • no way to get monitor support right out of the box?

  • @diabolicalheaven they are in the process of developing a d2 that will have dvi built in. It was scheduled for july 2011, but didn't make it and they don't have a ship date yet due to some delay with Marvell. check out globalscapetechnologies for info. (I have 6 dreamplugs and they are great, but I wasn't able to get video to work on them-- but I don't need it right now...)

  • is it better have an SD booting system or from the NAND ? I am wondering if Ardour will run on these or if you would have to update the ARM version of the OS to do that... or if that is even possible at all.

  • Some other post mentions something about windows running on a sheeva plug.

The Title is ... pbxnsip Plug Phone System Video First Impressions. Does anyone know if there is some software in Linux under which you can view the desktop by just using the network Ethernet ? That would really be interesting if you can basically have computers as scalable modular computers. for Soft synthesizers in my case. Midi and audio over ethernet seems to be a new area being exploited. is this Gigabit Ethernet ?

  • @TheMvuser

Accessing a desktop across a network with Linux is fairly easy and there are several ways of doing it. Personally I use freenx.

  • @TheMvuser Look at FreeNX and NeatX for remote desktops on linux.

    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:freenx-team && sudo apt-get install neatx-server # for lucid

    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:freenx-team && sudo apt-get install freenx-server # for karmic

  • Hi Rottingmr2,

thanks for posting this one up, could you tell me which USB to VGA converter you used?

  • Can you use this plug computer as a web server?

  • yes, eventually one day this baby will replace servers in a data center!

  • @coldtag Yes, you can use it as a web server.

  • idem as SSNANDA comment...please setup

    thx :)

  • Can you Post a video showing how you did the whole setup?

I would like to setup one personally.

    Thanks

  • Dude, this is awesome! Thanks, rottingmr2!

  • Hey,

What packages did you have to install to get the usb2vga working? I assume it's DisplayLink based? I just boughts me a SheevaPlug and i wanna muck around with it and my 7" USB display running DisplayLink

    Thanks!

  • Any support for parallel port?

maybe through any express card? is it supported?

    Thanks

  • You'd need a USB to Parallel Port adapter, I'm sure they exist. Also would need to ensure there are linux drivers available.

  • Thanks for the reply.

I have a printer (plotter) with parallel interface that works only under Windows XP.

I would share it over LAN and printing from my notebook (using ubuntu) via LAN.

So I would installing windows xp as OS in this Plug Computer. Is it possibile?

  • You cannot run Windows XP on it. The device uses a RISC processor, not an X86 processor that you have in your computer.

  • very nice!

how big is your sd card?

do you know how much power the total system consumes?

  • I'm just using a 2 gig card, there's over a gig left on it will ubuntu and all the X and gnome stuff. The OS takes up < 100MB of RAM and there's 512MB on the device, so plenty to run several apps at once.

  • Hi, I am getting one sheeva plug in the next weeks. I wanted to know if you coul give a link for a tutorial or something like that. I asume you are booting from the sd card...

  • Thou art truly a geek. Nice bit of hack there. =)

  • Cool as ever... will order this soon....

  • Nice. I ordered one of these a few weeks ago. Glad to see it runs Ubuntu just fine.

  • cool
