  • Yo tap water is not sterile and you can get infections from using a neti pot this way. use distilled or previous boiled sterile water. Check ABC.com on 2 people that died from an infection using tap water

  • @wolflover68 depends, in CA water is clean

  • Use distilled water as you don't want any other water to get into your lungs by any chance. One of my friends told me that few people have died by lung infection due to water getting in there. I would at least use filtered water.

  • fuck if it was on nigger oprah's show it must be really cool n work right?

  • I would not use this in my kitchen but my bathroom because I might be a little concerned about contamination of airborn substances. I would use lukewarm purified water versus the stuff out of my faucet. To be safe, I would stick with the saline packets that come with the pot and not add anything else to the solution. Make sure you wash and dry your Neti Pot well after use. I love it and my doctor recommended it. I wish I had one years before and will use it at the first sign of issues.

  • I've just started using a Neti pot (after trying ANOTHER sinus medication that didn't really help me) but whenever I use it, the saline solution doesn't pour out the other nostril like it does in every video I've seen. It kind of trickles, if it comes out at all. Usually it just doesn't come through. I've tried tilting my head more and all that, but it just doesn't come through. I'm guessing it's probably because it's so congested that it just won't pour through.

  • @StupidChris19 blow your nose before you do it

  • @StupidChris19 try making a k sound and while your doing it .

  • @StupidChris19 I was having this problem but only on one side, which told me it was operator error rather than sinus congestion blocking the flow. I discovered that I was inadvertently pressing the tip of the neti pot spout against the inside of my nose, thus blocking it at that point. I adjusted the angle of the spout and it solved the problem.

  • It's an informative video, especially the various salt products available, however when it came time for his suggestion to "wash" the neti pot, he uses a sponge!!! Unless that sponge was washed with soap, rinsed clean, then heavily dampened and placed in the microwave on High for 3 minutes, he is just putting bacteria from the sponge right back onto the neti pot that he is trying to clean/sanitize. Yuck to sponges!!!

  • Great video very helpful.

But come on dude not in the Kitchen. My wife would freak if I use one in the Kitchen.

  • good vid. thanks for posting.

  • Can you use epsom salt?

  • @Nyaree1 i was told kosher salt is best, no additives.

  • Thanks for your excellent video. Very understandable, and it relieves my fear of trying it.

  • THIS IS THE WORST VIDEO I'VE SEEN IN MY WHOLE LIFE..!!!! how can you be that bad?!

  • OMG!!!! it really works.... my boyfriend bought it and i thought he was crazy until i tried it. I FEEL LIKE THE OLD ME!!!! ( atleast the me before allergies) ...this is a life saver

  • I don't have sinus problems but my husband does. I keep trying to get him to try this. I first heard of it back in the 90's and was curious. I also suggested this neti pot routine to a friend today that has so much allergy problems and he had never heard of it. For those with these problems this is a god send.

  • It works great! I don't use the neti pot but a small squirt bottle by NeilMed. Same thing though. I can breathe and it has reduced the number of allergy-related headaches and congestion.

  • I'm having my deviated septum repaired tomorrow and wanted to know how to preform the sinus rinse using a neti pot beforehand. Though the video is very 'jerky' I thought the information was very helpful compared to many others I've watched this evening. I'm looking forward to giving it a try as that is my only recourse for the next week (not allowed to "blow" my nose). Thanks for taking the time to inform us rookies on just how easy it can be to use the neti pot!

  • If you're really stuffy, the water might not flow through, but it won't back up in your nose - it just won't leave the pot due to blockage. For a cold, follow the net pot with a swipe of Zicam. If you do that every 4 hours or so, you'll get rid of it fast. The virus can't live in that saline environment!

  • Thanks for the video. It was very helpful with clear and distinct instructions and suggestions.

  • You can certainly do it more than once a day. On days when I'm really having trouble with allergies I sometimes use the pot 3 or 4 times.

  • i am scared of suffocating. i am going to try it for the first time because i am ending a cold, but I still have lots of sinus liquid. So I want to clear them out. Any type of how not letting the liquid go in my breathing system?

  • I've never felt like it was going to end up in my lungs. When I've been really clogged and it couldn't drain out through the other side a small amount sometimes ends up trickling down the back of the throat but it's safe to swallow or you can spit it out.

  • Thank you so much! Mine is soo clogged! It only drained like a trickle of liquid and not like those videos where it comes out as a water hose lol. Can I try it more than once per day?

  • there is no danger of suffocating or of the water getting in your lungs if you keep your head tilted forward. You should be able to breathe and talk comfortably when you're using the neti pot.

  • Thanks for the video!!! I tried it for the 1st time tonight & somehow it keeps running down to my cheek & some down my throat too...so messy comparing to you. I guess I didn't have the right angle. Let me watch how you do it again :)

  • this is a good video. anyone catches the name of product used when you have sinus infeciton?? grapefruit solution and the other one? Thanks

  • In the video I mentioned echinacea tincture and grapefruit seed extract.

  • This is a good video, mostly. I've been using a neti pot regularly for over a year now and I would not recommend sniffing the solution back in, blow your nose after your done. The purpose to the neti pot is to clear the gunk out of your sinuses, if you snif it back in that kind of defeats the purpose.

  • I have wanted a Neti Pot for years (prior to the Oprah craze) and just never got one. For Christmas this year my mom gave me one (given my sinus issues). I was only slightly hesitant because I was born without frontal sinuses...I did it tonight for the first time and i'll admit it took awhile to get going. It also burned just a little but I was patient. By the time I was done - my sinuses felt so much better. Great product.

  • Then you really don't want to see my trick with a dog tag chain.

  • I'm scared to try this.

The idea of putting anything up my nose really freaks me out.

  • My best friend introduced me to the neti pot and i have to admit that at first i was skeptical but then i tried it and was AMAZED. I have really really REALLY bad sinuses, so much that i normally was not able to breath out of one nostril. this thing works fast and effectively. TRY IT

  • Very informative! Thanks for the great information.

  • thanks for demonstrating! its good information and i've been doing this for a year and enjoy it =)

  • what happens of it doesnt come out and then you get an earache? sometimes when i use one nostril it doesnt work but the other nostril does. It usually ends with me coughing. can anyone help me? but i do agree that this is the most informative video ive seen yet. Thankyou

  • very informational. i've used neti pot cleansing for about 4 years now and it's always such a relief.

  • thank you very much. this was the best neti video that I have found so far! how often do you use it?

  • I generally use it a couple of times a week during the spring through fall and often every day during winder or when traveling.

  • i tried doing this since i get headaches alot in my eyes and around that area? so i figured is give it a shot.

but the water just went down the back of my throat? instead of out the other nostril?lol

can water get stuck up there?!

  • Make sure you use warm water, if it still doesn't work pour it in the other nostril. Notice how the water goes into one nostril and pours out the other. I would just try both sides until it works.

  • Can't really get stuck once you stand up and move around a bit.

  • This is very informative, yet I was disturbed that you did this in your kitchen and, used your sponge. YUCK!!!!!!! But Thanks

  • Sinupulse pulsating irrigator was much more effecrtive for me and not as messy

  • hi. when you have serious congestion so that one nostril is largely blocked, i notice that the saline solution does not easily flow to the other side. in this case, should you just suck it into your throat and spit?

  • I normally just turn my head to the other side and let it drain back out that nostril. However you should let if flow even if it's slow as it will help open that mostly blocked side. It just takes longer.

  • I'm curious why you didn't blow out of your nose after using the netti pot. However, this is the most informative video on netti pots I've seen so far here on YouTube.

  • Honestly, I wasn't willing to be overly gross for all the world to see.
