  • thank you for this post...The tutus are gorgeous!!!

  • Not so great... So far from the version of the American Ballet in 1998

  • @seims6 - the more correct way of putting is that "the ABT version is so far from what is seen here". I do admit that the performers here leave alot to be desired, but Petipa's choreography should be respected & left alone.

  • wow they are very good dancers

  • Whats the name of this music ??

  • whats the name of the song?

  • The costuming is absolutely brilliant.. not to mention the choreography :)

  • I almsot thought you were wearing slippers instead of pointe shoes.

  • These girls dance wonderful and they look like Katie Issacon ,MAgdelena King, and Mary Esther T. Watson from Pas de Odilisque at LOyola Ballet in New Orleans

  • These three girls performed very well. As a small gesture of appreciation, could they be identified?

  • @palubob - I'll have to dig out my program from this production

  • Professor Vera Mikhailovna Krasovskaya, if you don't mind.

  • very interesting to see how choreography has changed. Do you know the cast?

  • Petipa's authentic choreography???????????

  • yes.

  • Mr. Lopez you are the angel of youtube, really... this is one of the most valuable videos ever.

Also, the second variation was fantastic, she is amazing...

  • Greetings Mr.L- In 1972 we attended a master class given by a great Russian Valentina Perecyslavic for patrons of ABT school.I remember her describing the beat of the Brisee stemming from the inner thigh and not the ankles where they tend to make noise. The soloist here seems to do it at the ankles, what say you as a former prof. Dancer.

  • oh my that is interesting. Im not a very good source on the technical stuff :) Was she instructing the students to do this at the thigh-level? Or was she saying that the dancers of yester-year did this?

I was always taught to beat the calfs.

  • Mme"Perry" as she was known, frowned upon incorrect placement. The highlight of that class, was the presence of the great Chilean Ballerina Lupe Serrano. Serrano did a series of brises and the actual impulse beat seemed to emerge from the thigh and of course continued downward without any noise,or ankle action. She mentioned Nureyev and Soloviev as the perfect examples.I have seen it in Soloviev batterie.

  • This soloist does a "Lazy" brisee.I recall Serrano's beat was UP as she crossed and had a dynamic force as it traveled sideways. But the accent was definately UP.Perry said the ankles must never "Touch Bone"....

  • l saw a clip of mrs percyslavic 's lessons, also nureyev when in ny used studing with her l was impressed really from her voice when teach

  • @Leonnidik Greetings Mr. Leonnidik, yes indeed this is what I learned, brisee should be done by crossing (or beating) the thighs together. It's always difficult to do such because we dancers need to jump a bit higher, make the legs work a bit harder, beat the the thigh a bit faster so we can finish the brisee in time. It's easier doing it from ankles, it requires less energy, hence it'd be less tiring to the legs, but it's not a correct way, it's a cheating way. Girls tend to do this more though

  • You made my day mrlolpez....Krasovskaya or Slonimsky would be very proud of you :-)

  • thank you - but I bet they'd be far more proud of Mr. Fullington & his reconstruction work. :)

  • I love this ballet company! The costumes are gorgeous!

  • The music is delightful and the dance reflects choreographic genius. The three girls handled this very well.
