I remember in 2006 or 2007 when i found this video. I knew all the words. Every time I would cry every time I would watch this video. He was such a fighter. There will never be another horse like him.

It's June, 2010 and this season's Triple Crown races just ended with three different winners.  Barbaro was the last horse spoken of as a possible Triple Crown Champion. We all know he could've done it. The injury was sooo sad, however, the response, the outpouring of affection and good wishes was the kind of thing that re-affirms all that is positive about the human family. THANK YOU FOR POSTING. yea he pulled the vets back to his stall after the surgery and he had so much heart but the day they put him down he was fighting a second round of laminitus and he just looked dispondent they said he was a diiferent horse so they ended his pain

Throughout this whole video I got the chills. I think that Barbaro was right beside me while I was watching this video. Barbaro was the greatest horse in racing history(I think).

Secretariat died too, he died of Laminitis like Barbaro. Barbaro was an amazing horse, but he just doesn't compare to Secretariat, in Secretariat's race down the backstretch of the Kentucky Derby Secretariat was going at 49 MPH, Barbaro never even touched that. I am not saying Barbaro wasn't great, he was just not as great as Secretariat.

The only thing I noticed is the pic that is at 1:04 (the horse with his tongue sticking out) is actually Brother Derek, not Barbaro. Looks like Barbaro because of the star but if you look closely you'll see the star is slightly different and the horse in the pic doesn't have the snip on his nose like Babaro. Just thought I'd point it out...

u know what is sad though? After he broke down, he still wanted to run... that's the sad part. He didn't care he was hurt, he wanted to go and go. America misses him. He is the nations horse. The words say it clearly "He didnt stop, didnt give up,even if he sometimes lost hope, he did his best and he is blessed. And the best." He was so lucky to have everyone that loved him in his life. A wee too heavy on the injury photos--hurts to watch--but it is a gorgeous video.

I think I commented before, but I just wanted to add...wouldn't a race between Barbaro, Pine Island, Curlin, and Street Sense be amazing? That would be a race for the ages. We've had two spectacular Derbies in a row...but there was Barbaro's tragedy last year, and Mending Fence's horrific accident at Pimlico this year.

Maybe the racing age should be raised a year, and training restricted.

barbaro died because of his left hind leg. his right was completely healed, but his left had laminitis. so then his right leg was placed back in a cast and he could not stand on either back leg, so his front feet got laminitis, and the pain became unbearable, so they put him down.

Barbaro can be compared with the greatest of champions like Man O' War and Secretariat and Citation just because he had enough heart to be undefeated up to the Preakness. Very few horses have acheived that. He was a true champion and I will never forget him.

Barbaro was a wonderful racehorse and a great fighter. We can only hope he's running with Great Secretariat. Think of all of the medical advancements that were made for Barbaro that could be used for horses in the future, so there will be less of a mortality rate for horses with broken legs.
