  • so this cost around 20 bucks? normally they cost about 150 man!

  • @fireworkfreak100 thats weird i could get a 400 watt hps for 25.95

  • @ballpython32 na i live in the Netherlands and i think they are crazy here!

  • @fireworkfreak100 yea im guessing so. i live in northern cali everything's supper cheap compared to everywhere els i gess

  • @ballpython32 do you mean with Cali---California or and city in Colombia :P

  • @fireworkfreak100 California

  • @ballpython32 yeah in the U.S.A. is almost everything cheaper as in Europe....

  • leave it to take some time to warm up, it will make more ligth

  • Wow. Not to be mean but for having Edison in your name you have surprisingly little knowledge of electricity. A watt is the power dissipated by a current of 1 ampere flowing across a resistance of 1 ohm. It has absolutely no linear relationship with heat and watts.

  • @Phunkedub I'm taking Physics right now. Do you know what the definition for a Watt is? It's 1 joule per second. Joules are a unit of energy, and as with all units of energy they are also units of heat. You are thinking of a watt only in terms of electricity, in which case a watt is a volt-amp (Volts X Amps = Watts); Ohm's law doesn't tell the whole story. For example, 1 amp at 120 volts is 120 watts. Next time you accuse someone of knowing little, you might want to check your facts first.

  • @edisonphono1 Touche my friend, touche. I did know Ohm's law and what a joule is but I have never taken physics. Maybe in a simple physics problem the 2 would be linear but I can tell you from experience this is not a linear relationship with light bulbs, I would assume because of ballasts and size of glass covering. 6 27 watt Daylight CFL's ran my buddies cab 10+ degrees lower with the light bulbs within 3 inches of the plant rather than a 150 watt HPS well over 6 inches away, remote ballasted

  • @Phunkedub There's a simple explanation for your CFL lights being cooler: you had more bulbs spread out in more space, with heat being dissipated more through air. 150 watts in one spot will be more intense heat than 150+ watts spread out to six spots. Also, the heat coming from a CFL is coming from a large glass spiral, not a small arc tube; it acts like a heat sink. Watts are energy. Find a 15w incand. and a 15w CFL. Let both warm up, and feel each bulb, you'll see that they feel the same.

  • OK, to back ambalanceman62 up, there is no danger in touching this bulb. Look, I learned a very useful saying when it comes to heat in light bulbs; "A Watt is a Watt is a Watt!" HEAT=ENERGY=WATTS!! A 150 watt HPS bulb will get just as hot, and not any hotter than, a 150 watt incandescent bulb. And I haven't heard of anyone being afraid of touching a standard light bulb. The glass is too far from the arc tube to matter. You can get 500 watt incandescent bulbs, and I guarantee you can touch it.

  • @edisonphono1 I have no idea where you get your info from but are you trying to tell me that a regular light bulb, a CFL and an HPS put off the same heat and light per watt? Why are they pushing CFL's as a "green" alternative to regular bulbs? How come a 1000w HPS runs around 150,000 lumens while the EXACT same ballast with a Halide is 80,000, almost half of the lumens?

  • @Phunkedub No, that's not it at all. A 60 watt EQUIVALENT CFL bulb is around 14 watts. It puts out 14 watts of heat. The more light a bulb puts out per watt just means that the bulb is creating more light energy from heat (i.e., more efficient). That is why a CFL gets warm, but not hot. Watts are a unit of heat, and lumens are a unit of light. More efficient light sources have more lumens per watt. HPS is brighter (more efficient) than MH, but in bulbs of the same wattage, heat is the same

  • Why are you touching your lamp with your oily hands ? )))

  • pretty much any halogen.... you can't touch the glass of auto bulbs either

  • Its pretty cool to the tou...BOOM

  • hello, i have a 150 hps bulb at home and tride to use a regular scoket. well i have failed trying to get it on, but i see you some how have done it . please tell me how you wired everything ( including ballast) to get that bulb working in your room. i highly suggest you make a wiring video because there are not any online. i will be waiting :)

  • @demetrius1203 because you're using a regular socket. Those take a mogul socket which are a higher voltage.

  • I wouldn't worry about touching it. Can easilly be cleaned with rubbing alcohol. If anything, I'd be concerned with the oil absorbing light. These lights are outside through hurricanes and they don't blow when they run the night after.

  • nice going on touching it, have fun with the exploding lightbulb.

  • gud luck with the bulb

  • i was like nooooo dont touch! fail.

  • do you need a ballast for a 150 or a 100 watts?

  • I'm an electrician that specializes in HID lighting (high/low pressure sodium, metal halide, mercury vapor, etc...) and touching the lamps (bulbs for the layman) WILL NOT hurt them. I have handled these and hundreds of others with dirty, wet, sweaty, bloody, paint covered or otherwise contaminated hands, and the lamps still lasted their full lives. As mentioned before in the comments, touching lamps is only harmful to high wattage halogen incandescents (long skinny ones with a filament) .

  • @ambalanceman62 bloody? u must love ur job

  • @ambalanceman62

I prefer to keep oil off high temp lights. Why would you not take the small precaution to not get oil on them? It will form a spot that gets hotter and allows less energy to out of the light. It may me a small amount but why not keep them clean?

  • @ambalanceman62 what about fingerprints? or smudges which eventually burn and the light given off is reduced because of that pesky fingerprint...

its not proven but wise to thoroughly clean your bulbs before use

  • @ambalanceman62 I bet you are .....BULLSHIT!!!!!!!!!

  • @ambalanceman62 im a lighting engineer and lighting manufacturer and what you are saying is absolute rubbish, no lamps should ever be touched whether they run on a resistive or inductive load..

it reduces lamp life and lowers lumens output...

(long skinny ones with a filament) .pmsl ... you idiot !!

  • @ambalanceman62

Thank you finally an an answer from somebody who knows what they were talking about. After shutting the lamp down I cleaned it, and had cleaned it before.

  • hahaha noooooooob

  • dont touch it!! not a good idea considering it will blow up when it gets hot!

  • @VTownDown That only applies to halogen bulbs the arc tube on these lamps are contained by the outer glass envelope which would be the only danger from fingerprints.

  • dont touch it!! not a good idea considering it will blow up when it gets hot!

  • my penis is hot

  • @mikannah09 ahh i can agree with u on that one. a 150 watt hps only for 20.. ITS OUTRAGEOUS!!!

  • wouldnt get to many fingerprints on it, oil isnt good for it when its really hot, your links dead btw

  • why would me or any of use give u 20/ when we can get 1000 watt for 30/

  • Dude you should never touch a HPS bulb , the oils from your hand can cause it to explode...

  • Why are you holding that bulb like a dick when it can cause it to bust?

  • chill out douche bag...... the bulb hasnt even heated up yet

  • Doesnt change the fact yo leave oils on it, fucker.

Ive seen bulbs bust that way, and when it does heat up, i hope your eyes are inches away, cock sucker

  • yeah yeah yeah shut up, that shit isnt gonna bust right when u turn it on, and he probably did whip it down

    stop tryna act smart

  • oils can bust bulbs, stupid fuck

  • i was thinkin the same exact thing

  • ohh really? nice observation tweedle-dumb.......

  • that doesnt even make sense, it wasnt an observation either, it was fact.

Idiots on youtube are too many in number.

  • ohh wow ur a genius!

stop acting like a smart ass over youtube....

everyone knows oils from ur hands can blow a bulb, but did it? no so stfu

  • not everyone knows, and i was just alerting him, in case. unlike you id rather not see someone take glass in the eye, so stop being a little fuck and just leave people alone.

Attacking me for serving a legit fair warning is trash of the lowest kind, and you sir, need to be murdered.

  • Comment removed

  • Hes right, whats your fucking problem?

I only see one asshole here, you.

  • Yes he is right, i never said he wasnt

i dont give a shit what people think, im not trying to win a popularity contest

  • @ddavid993 clearly

  • Thats right, you had better remove your racist comment. piece of trash.

  • yah yah yah fuck u u dam canook

    comment was corrected not deleted

  • Comment removed

  • Dont you get tired of me making you look like an idiot?

  • nope never, cuz honestly i dont give a fuck

not ever gonna see any of these people anyways... how u tryna impress? fagget

  • u leave your protein form your hands on the light so when it gets hot it bust

  • protein? don't you mean oil?

  • wow dumb ass..you deserve the darwin award.

  • what a great way to electricute yourself!

  • lol "its cool to the touch right now"............you JUST turned it on, would you expect any bulb to be hot at this point? Not even a 1000 watt would have began to put off heat, no bulb would.

  • @Don612Juan

you come here to my place and hold your hands on my hps 15 seconds after i turned it on - i would like to see that..

  • ill do it on my 600 watt hps or MH and have no problem 15 seconds in to a cold start

  • thats what she said

  • everytime i see him touch that bulb i cant help but squint my eyes and back away..... jesus.....

  • And one more thing, these take some time to warm up. It may be cold to the touch to start with, but a minute or less after it has that yellow glow it it burns you to touch it. After power down, it takes AT LEAST 2 minutes to cool back to a safe-to-touch temperature (don't want to burn your hand), and at last 15 minutes to reach room temperature again.

  • right the inside of that bulb when its been running for a minute is like 2,000 F+

  • He had some spare supplies in his truck you see, so he figured he could give it away. Probably not standard policy. I wonder if he got fired for that act of generosity.

  • I say that because I assume they keep an inventory. I wonder how he'd explain to his boss about the "missing" parts?

  • wow you know your stuff buddy, thanks for the TIPS champ

  • were you live

  • touch away mate, its your bulb! happy growing!

  • your gonna blow ur bulb if you touch it like that pard

  • lol

  • Drop it to break it. Tungsten Halogen is different though.

  • wheres the warm yellow glow, looks more like mh to me

  • Yellow glow takes about 2min to achieve (by vaporizing sodium with hot starting gas). The starting gas is xenon (same as camera flash) which makes white light. The shape of the arc tube inside is clearly an HPS lamp, not metal halide.

  • man its really bad to touch your balbs like that make sure to use a rag, so none of the oils on your hand get on the bulb

  • idiots find a way to weed themselves out of bloodlines

  • yeah i got a huge knot in my stomach when i saw this guy just place his entire hand on the bulb

  • The problem would be if he touched the arc tube inside somehow. That would contaminate the tube and weaken it. The outer glass bulb is there just for protection of the arc tube.

  • I got a 150 watt hps for 20 dollars also!!

  • dont touch the bulb jack as

  • It's 150W and he just turned it on. Stop being an asshole.

  • the natural oil on your skin will eventually lead to the bulb exploding when it gets hot. you should NEVER touch a hps bulb with bare hands, even if its still in a box. YOU stop being an asshole

  • I stand corrected.

  • yes, you do

  • It's the tube with the gas (in this case) or the tube with the filiment (with halogen) that you don't want to touch. The outer glas envelope is there just to protect the tube inside.

  • if you touch the outer glass, and then switch it on, it will break. simple!

  • use rubbing alcohol to eat the oil

    off of the bulb now.

  • by touching that bulb you just killed 30% of the bulbs life dont let the oil from ure skin touch the bulb it could break or blow out if u do touch it make sure you wipe it with a dry clean rag lesson for today guys lol

  • i can buy 150w bulbs outa my shop for 89p :L

  • That's an excellent idea but here's my only problem, in a high moisture indoor enviroment how do you prevent moisture from getting in the ballast?? peace

  • you have to put it outside the environment :) well thats what i do. there is only one way to do it, the right way

  • ya econolight stopped selling them because they were not a good seller... MY ASS! best seller ever... problem was they were too cheap I think lol oh well fuck econolight

  • u can get those at home depot for the same price.

  • Too bad they don't sell those anymore, that price is too good to be true!

  • haha, yeah its cool to the touch, but now that you touched it once it gets hot the oil from your fingers will make it explode...

  • @nemesisthor maby if your a nigger with greasy chicken fingers

  • what? did u re-wire some shit? twenty bucks for just the bulb? whats 20-bucks!!!!!!!

  • The whole setup was $20, the lamp, ignitor, and ballast. It was a really good deal while it lasted but you can't get this model anymore unfortunately :(

  • I talked to some guy changing who worked for the Seattle City Light who was changing streetlights, when changed the bulb in a sodium vapor streetlight fixture near my apartment. He gave me the works for free. 100W HPS bulb + power unit (ballast and starter), for $0. You can't beat that price. Ha ha.

  • can you use this to supplement your aerogarden?

  • i wouldnt recommend it buddy, the heat maybe to intense, but you can give it a shot, :)

  • an aerogarden is open to the room so unless you have it in a box with no ventilation i don't know why it would b a problem

  • ok...so the bulb came with the ballast and fixture?

  • this dude is a fuckin idiot i hope the oil from your fingerprints makes that bulb explode

  • hahaha ohh I was waitin for it to just blow the fuck up!

I have heard from tons of people that your not supposed to touch those bulbs with your hands.

that would have been funny as hell

  • you should never touch a real hps bulb with your hands

  • this is (L)ow (P)ressure and should be NOT (S)oudium

So, there is nothing of HPS bulb, except name

This can be MH bulb, LP halide or ...

however you can see blue light when he put hand on it ....

  • You sir are an idiot. Perhaps you've never seen an HPS light start-up. They take awhile and bridge across several different color spectrums before reaching theirs. At the time my phone could only record short clips, otherwise i would have recorded at least a minute so that people could see the full light up. This was just to show that the 20 hps from econolight was easy to modify and use.

  • yes, Im big idiot !

Can you teach an idiot and show him where to buy this HPS what you got.

  • lol thanks man that guy was too much...

  • thats bed to tough the bulb...

  • You know, these lights get brighter than that, they take about 3-4 minutes to warm up all the way. Also, when they are warmed up i suggest not touching the bulb not only because it can explode, but that when its hot its HOT. You will get burns.

  • do you have to have a ballast for all hps lamps?

  • yes all HPS lamps do come with a ballast some are inside the reflector above the bulb but you want the new ones where the ballast is seperate form the reflector and theres not so much heat around the bulb area ballast for HPS get very hot so stick on a piece of thick glass on a brick

  • just a lil fyi you don't want to touch the bulb your oils on the fingers can make the bulb explode

  • good deal dtdextra

    nice and cool too
