But that's the exact reason why it SHOULD be historically accurate. It's primary audience is children, which we all know to be very impressionable. Passing something off like this as fact is skewing children's view of history. It's a blatant lie that's no different than Twilight in its historical accuracy. To teach this to children and tell them that it actually happened is wrong, and I personally would be ashamed of myself for condoning this behavior in an "educational" show.

  • @TheKuroKaminari First it's just a myth, would you criticize episodes of Sesame Street with Santa in them?

    Second go back to cracked.

  • Hey - I have a son just like George, except he'll probably never be president.

  • Kermit must have a time machine to see all history.

  • Find someone else who has Sesame Street News Flash: Mumford's Big & Small Trick and upload it if you don't have it.

  • Geez I just remembered I bought some cherries yesterday to eat. Snack Time.

  • I love how he just keeps chopping trees down and like everyone ignores him

  • I wonder what it would have been like if Kermit interviewed Bush.

  • I'm guessing that this is from 1976 since Kermit was referring to the Bicentennial which happened that year like I said I'm just guessing the whole George Washington story happened in 1776 AIR?

  • Now there are 1773 trees. Time for a tea party.

  • lol @ "getting old before my time" and "grandfather of the country worth waiting for"

  • Boy, things sure have changed since George Washington was a kid. :)

  • Does Kermit have a Time Machine or something? How did he travel so far back in History? :)

  • Of course, y'all know this is about as historically accurate as the movie Wild Wild West, don't you?

  • Oh, so George Washington chopping down tree after tree and promptly getting forgiven by his father isn't believable, but a puppet frog interviewing him, cavemen and many fairy tale characters is?

Why don't you go to the "first day of school" Kermit NewsFlash and mention that the letter 'n' wasn't really a letter until the Phoenicians came along 3,000 years ago. Or go to the Christopher Columbus NewsFlash video and mention that Columbus had no intention of finding "America" when he set sail.

    God damn it

  • why doesnt his father just take the freakin hatchet away from him

  • That's what I would do, if I had a kid.

  • If you ask me, I think the reason he kept chopping down the cherry trees is because he knows his father will keep forgiving him. It's called reinforcement. If a parent is going to get through to a child, the parent has to be tough. Mean, almost.

  • Thanks for reposting this.

  • The announcement music sounds kind of low, but very elegant on this sketch.

  • Well the music sounds fine, it's the beeping noises that sound different

  • Right you are!

  • Or should I say... ?

The "News Flash" Music and Beeping Noises heard on this neat "Sesame Street News" Segment of Kermit's... sounds kind of low and different than how it usually sounds, but most certainly sounds very nice! :D

  • Ha, I loved the news segments, were very educational and funny. Love the chit chat Kermit made at the begining, similar to what real newscasters do before being on air. This is what I remember most from this show, the attention to details like these.

  • I remember this one like it was yesterday. Many thanks, uselesskgm. George Washington's father taught him to tell the truth, but not to "stop chopping down my cherry trees". Poor Kermit. These news segments always took their toll on him.

  • Blooper: Starting on 3:30, George Washington's father talks to Kermit about Young George Washington learning to stop chopping down his Cherry Trees, and on 3:51, after he told him to stop and put the hatchet down, the Cherry Tree landed right on top of Kermit after demolishing because Young George Washington didn't see him standing by it.

  • Comment removed

  • The scene of a Cherry Tree landing on Kermit after Young George Washington chopped it down is seen on the video "The Best of Kermit".

  • " TO STOP CHOPPING DOWN MY CHERRY TREES! GEORGE, GIVE ME THAT HATCHET!" If it were me, I'd take his hatchet away until he learned not to chop down my cherry trees with it.

  • he did not

  • And oh yeah... I looooved the "News Flash" Intro Music. (still lmao) "Hi pop." Hi Son. At's mah boy, Geoooorge." 2 funny!

  • Yeah... (lol) Kermit stayed havin' a hot mic! (rotflmao). Kermit & Ernie were my favorite!

  • They're my favorites, too.

  • Oh cool, I like this one the best :)

  • George Washington: i will keep on chopping down cherry trees for the rest of my life

  • Classic segment. I haven't seen this in ages.

  • What year was this made?

  • "...........and about those bicentennial colonial wigs, you just tell him I want one powdered and one plain" ha ha hilarious!

  • It's always hilarious when Kermit is talking to someone off camera before he notices that he is on camera

  • You got it.

  • Just don't let young George Washington near the rainforests! :-)

  • Point taken, dogsdoballet. I'm very sorry if you or anyone else was offended by what I considered at the time to be a lighthearted remark. :-( I strongly believe in conservation of the rainforests, not only for the sake of the tribal people, plants and flowers, and birds and animals that live there but also that of the world's climate and atmosphere. Once again, I apologise; I'll think before I post in future.

  • popcorn its really neat, fun to make and fun to eat

  • I love this skit

  • So do I.

  • chop chop chop truth truth truth thats my boy funny as hell.

  • Lol, if that phase had carried over into the Revolution... Could've been real handy...

  • I love this. :) Its so cute.

  • I was laughing myself silly after I watched this, but only if ALL fathers could be proud of their sons telling the truth

  • Hey, between 2:28 seconds & 2:54 you can see the hand of the puppeter for George Jr

  • That was so cute! Go George go!!!

  • "...and, about those Bicentennial wigs? You just tell 'em I want one powdered, and one plain..."

Guess we know when this one first aired, huh? :-)

  • I figure sometime during the mid 70's. By the way, what exactly ARE bicentennial colonial wigs?

  • They are white wigs that look like George Washington Hair.

  • What would a frog need with those?

  • Comment removed

  • I mean...

Why don't you ask "afriendofbean" that question because he would probably know what a frog like Kermit would need with Bicentennial Colonial Wigs?

  • I remember this. Frank Oz sure is humorous as Augustine Washington.

  • Yep, that's my Boy George, and maybe someday he'll record a song about whether I really want to hurt him.

  • Cool

  • George Washington sounds like Ray Romano lol!

  • I really like Frank Oz as the father of George Washington. He always has a voice that has kind of a muppet sound.

  • I especially like the end when the last cherry tree falls on Kermit.

  • George Washington's father died when George was eleven years old. Now you know why.

  • "Dad, I cannot tell a lie. I got drunk, then took your brand new Chrysler 300C out and crashed it into a school bus full of slow kids, killing half of them." "I forgive you son...after a beat you with my belt!"

  • "George Washington's brother was the uncle of our country." - George Carlin

  • Young George is so cute! He reminds me of Robin the Frog

  • Is it just me, or does the Morse Code beeping sound odd during the NEWS FLASH intro?

  • I think there was also something odd about the announcer's voice.

  • Sometimes Jerry Nelson's announcer voice sounds a bit different on a few of the News Flashes. On one of them, he sounds like Herry Monster!

  • George Washington's dad, the Grandfather of our Country.

  • Yes!This got removed months ago because Taylorheston got suspended, thanks for bringing this back up!
