But that's the exact reason why it SHOULD be historically accurate. It's primary audience is children, which we all know to be very impressionable. Passing something off like this as fact is skewing children's view of history. It's a blatant lie that's no different than Twilight in its historical accuracy. To teach this to children and tell them that it actually happened is wrong, and I personally would be ashamed of myself for condoning this behavior in an "educational" show.
I'm guessing that this is from 1976 since Kermit was referring to the Bicentennial which happened that year like I said I'm just guessing the whole George Washington story happened in 1776 AIR?
Oh, so George Washington chopping down tree after tree and promptly getting forgiven by his father isn't believable, but a puppet frog interviewing him, cavemen and many fairy tale characters is?
Why don't you go to the "first day of school" Kermit NewsFlash and mention that the letter 'n' wasn't really a letter until the Phoenicians came along 3,000 years ago. Or go to the Christopher Columbus NewsFlash video and mention that Columbus had no intention of finding "America" when he set sail.
If you ask me, I think the reason he kept chopping down the cherry trees is because he knows his father will keep forgiving him. It's called reinforcement. If a parent is going to get through to a child, the parent has to be tough. Mean, almost.
The "News Flash" Music and Beeping Noises heard on this neat "Sesame Street News" Segment of Kermit's... sounds kind of low and different than how it usually sounds, but most certainly sounds very nice! :D
Ha, I loved the news segments, were very educational and funny. Love the chit chat Kermit made at the begining, similar to what real newscasters do before being on air. This is what I remember most from this show, the attention to details like these.
I remember this one like it was yesterday. Many thanks, uselesskgm. George Washington's father taught him to tell the truth, but not to "stop chopping down my cherry trees". Poor Kermit. These news segments always took their toll on him.
Blooper: Starting on 3:30, George Washington's father talks to Kermit about Young George Washington learning to stop chopping down his Cherry Trees, and on 3:51, after he told him to stop and put the hatchet down, the Cherry Tree landed right on top of Kermit after demolishing because Young George Washington didn't see him standing by it.
" TO STOP CHOPPING DOWN MY CHERRY TREES! GEORGE, GIVE ME THAT HATCHET!" If it were me, I'd take his hatchet away until he learned not to chop down my cherry trees with it.
Point taken, dogsdoballet. I'm very sorry if you or anyone else was offended by what I considered at the time to be a lighthearted remark. :-( I strongly believe in conservation of the rainforests, not only for the sake of the tribal people, plants and flowers, and birds and animals that live there but also that of the world's climate and atmosphere. Once again, I apologise; I'll think before I post in future.
"Dad, I cannot tell a lie. I got drunk, then took your brand new Chrysler 300C out and crashed it into a school bus full of slow kids, killing half of them." "I forgive you son...after a beat you with my belt!"

@TheKuroKaminari First it's just a myth, would you criticize episodes of Sesame Street with Santa in them?
Second go back to cracked.

Of course, y'all know this is about as historically accurate as the movie Wild Wild West, don't you?
