I remember actually handling one of these bikes back in 1985 in the bike store the price tag was $400.00 I so wanted to get one but I got the Super Viper which was 175.00 at the time.
I just hope that for all that show, you actually ride the thing and don't just let it sit in the corner collecting dust. I happen to own a Harry Leary, and I ride mine whenever possible. One of my favorite bikes.
Very 80's legendary old skool race bike... back in the late 70's-80's when Diamond Back was a GOOD company, who made their bmxs' outta 100% 4130 chromoly.
Now, they're cheap and SHITTY, steel crap bikes you can buy at Walmart.
WTF, happened to you, Diamond Back? The last GOOD quality DBs were made in the late 80's. :(
I owned one of these in the mid 90's... I loved the 181 cranks - made the bike seem so fast with a 45t front sprocket - the cranks did not love me doing dirt jumping :( - had I known then what I know now, I would never have given the bike away.
Holy shnap bro! Your bike is Aaaaawweesome! I've got a 83 Silver Streak and an 81 Senior Pro that I'm building up as we speak. 'They're on BMX Museum. Great Job!
Hey...I'm about to restore my Harry Leary bike. Any suggestions on places to track down parts - especially pads, grips and seat. Thanks...The bike looks great.
I had one of the 1st of these to roll out..put it on lay away at Kirks Bike shop in Ramona ,Ca,,took months to pay it off but EVERYDAY i'd come in to look at her.
I sold mine, I can just cry now. turbolite seat and 1 1/8 Ukai wheels and hubs. turbolite 3pc cranks and reactor forks that Eddie King gave to me at the 1989 grands in Louisville Ky. It felt cool having something an entire year before they were on the market. ,Mine wasn't black or smoked crome , it was really shiny crom-moly and loop tail also, I believe it was a Viper .sold all for $100bucks.sweet bike and I wish I still had it. I still have a super viper frame&fork and My favorite Formula One
Awesome machine. I had a Turbo back in the mid 80's which I loved dearly...remember those little "sealed bearing" stickers on the wheel hubs? Gotta love that sort of attention to detail.
Awesome! I had one right after my Cook Bros. & JMC rides. Loved the smoked chrome! Handled really well. Unfortunately, I folded the fork jumping and mangled the cranks (they were junk, really). Sure LOOKED cool tho! HAHA! Man, I miss it...
God I wanted one of these SOOOO bad !!!! If it had the old DB branded Comp II's it would have been perfect !! Thats incredibly anal isnt it. I need a life.
How refreshing to see that someone knows how to hold the camera steady & to pan it around slowly so we can get a proper look at it instead of seeing a video taken by someone with Parkinsons & on speed.
Congratulations on a great bike & a worthwhile video, it's much appreciated.
good to see people keeping these mint oldschool bikes alive, they are like rolls royces compared to the modern day freestylers, other mint bikes from early eighties are kuwahara lazerlite, skyway ta,mongoose pro class,p.k. ripper & s.e. quad,g.t. pro, redline, hutch, and of course raliegh aero pro
ohhhh how sweet !! i cant believe that i sold mine yrs ago.... diamond back is gone..... i should have keep it... i had hutch, gt, redline and diamond back... hutch and diamond back went out of business.... yes i forgot the torker and cw... they gone out of business too... good old memory for me ... i raced from 79 to 92
Oh I think I mistook the crank dust cap for the head of a newer style bmx bottom bracket bolt. I found it strange initially that it didn't have a one piece bottom bracket and that threw me off I think.
Had one back in the day. All the kids in the neighborhood were jealous. My 26 year old nephew still has it in his garage. I mowed a LOT of lawns for that bike!
That is badd ass

They are DB Turbo cranks.
