when u go to the genius bar before they take ur device, they make u sign a piece of paper, did u ever read it. its a disclaimer for not being responsible to any lose of data, ok if u read it why u didnt tell them "ok i will come back because i dint have time to backup my computer"
i watched tons of videos, and people think that they will find a computer which will never lose their data, i have 3 copies of my computer on 3 different hard disk. because any hard disk will eventually fail!!!!!!
When you become a member, they will do a free back up each year (as long as you pay the membership fee). I tried to back it up myself, but something kept going wrong. They tried as well and were not able to save everything. Don't take everything so seriously.
not trying to sound mean but your files are your responsibility. Apple gives you a applications with in-conjunction with time machine to create back ups of your files for when something like this happens.
Parts wear out and you should always expect the unexpected.
This is very sad. I would HATE to loose all my writing projects.
Now's the time to learn a lesson: Start a regular backup schedule. Using an external hard drive for the backups is easiest. Backup all your files to it at least once a week.
Geeks say, if you don't back up you WILL lose all your info., because every hard drive fails eventually.
They didn't "steal" my laptop, but they did take the old one and give me a new one that I had to pay for. So I thought of it like they were taking my old hard drive for ransom so I had to get a new one. Did I go to far with that one..?
OUCH. Your music is gone? That's not cool. I have 80% of my collection on original CD, and 15% was downloaded off a site with live bootlegs and stuff. That other 5% I should back up as well...
Why can't you get them back? Were they uniqe recordings? Were they exclusive downloads? Most of the time there are ways to get stuff back, unless it's like something you recorded youself and only one copy ever existed.

Its not apples responsibility to back up you data, invest in a external hard drive and use time machine.

Suddenly you're the external hard drive police.

Yes, unique recordings. A few of them were my own and they were special to me, and I never had put them on a CD.

OMG. That is tragic...
Get yourself a portable hard drive ASAP.

Seriously. I need one fast so this never happens again. But it's kind of nice, in a way, to have a blank slate.
