My first "real" surfboard was a jay model. Still own it today. I had just been hired at O'Neill surf shop when Jay passed. Kim was there. What a tough time for so many people. I won't ever forget it
Larga vida jay....one of the young big wave surfer..........all ways smiling.....sharing and teaching the respect of surfing to the kids , i meet him at san sebastian on the oneill surfing clinic , and longboarding with him at the puerto escondido tube riding contest hold by angel salinas........one of the most talent longboarders at the moment........but one day he leaves this terrenal world to be at the ocean forever........surfea o muere......
Very nice video piece and thank you for posting it.
I knew Jay... Was in Big Stick a surf club with him for a few years. It was an honor to know and surf with him and yes he was the type of person said to be. Always a smile, always in control and doing
What a tragedy. I remember when I was 16 and he was the same age in 94 and he took on mavericks in that huge swell. I envy'd him and wished one day I would charge like that.... I guess you are just born with that kind of guts...... He looks like he truely enjoyed his life.
I could tell by the video that this guy had it figured out. It's all about enjoying what you have, and you can see it in Jay's face all through out this video.
It definitely helps. I wish everyone could have known Jay. He was a great surfer, but he was also so much more. I really miss him. Thanks again, and thanks for writing.

Doug,
I was honoured to shoot the footage of Jay from the Maldives in this video mix.
He was such a great guy to be around in or out of the water.
I think of his loss often, and I hope my images help to keep his memory strong. Best wishes, Charlie Kinross.
