The majority of soldiers do not volunteer for a 2nd or 3rd tour. Unlike any other job in this country, you can't quit. The tours have been extended up to 12 months. The soldiers don't have a say in any of this.  They do what they are told or face the consequences. And then when they are injured physically or mentally, we don't even give them proper treatment back home. We've documented over 100,000 Iraqis killed since the invasion of 2003 and spent how many hundreds of billions of dollars?

yes that is true that Units are called upon to deploy to Iraq and Afghanistan. But the soldiers to have a say in this right from the beginning. They can choose not to join in the first place. Remember it's an all volunteer military. What you need to ask yourself is why do they still do it even after all the trash-talking that people do. I just had a friend who's father is a millionaire re-join and transfer from 10th mtn div to armor brigade. Thank God for people that want to make a difference.

There are always going to be people that can't do anything else but be in the military. And the bait they use definately has a strong influence. "We'll give you $50k to go to school" "We'll give you $1800/month if you're married" They should tell everyone about the tens of thousands of disabled veterans that are struggling to stay sane and tell everyone there's a 30% chance a US soldier will develop serious mental health problems within 3 to 4 months of returning home.

Why don't TV and cable networks show the video of Air Force One landing on the runway in Iraq? I caught one quick shot of it on the news the other day but didn't see it anywhere else when other newscasts talked about our Presidents visit to Iraq this week. I can't even find one single video of it here on youtube. Is it possible that the sole image of AF1 safely on Iraqi soil is such a symbolic positive sign of our troops success that the liberal media and youtube can't stomach showing it?

I did see a picture of it on the runway. I had seen the others come off of a C-17 and thought the President did the same. The scene of AF1 on the runway I thought was a powerful message in itself. Possibly, the military doesn't want it to be shown flying in or out for security reasons.
