This same principle is used in old school engine ignition systems.
The ignition spark is created when the breaker points (switch) opens. (See Oreilly / Checker part #2-1009)
This is also aided by a 0.25 microfarad capacitor (condenser) in parallel with the switch that "aids in a more rapid collapse of the magnetic field". Have you considered trying this in your experiments? You may get even more out by adding a condenser such as oreillyautoDOTcom part #2-2203.
@TheGuru2You Might be best to try an actual condenser such 2-2203. It's my understanding it has a high voltage rating but I don't know what the rating is.
Hi, you correct, with my experience i totally agree, and another thing, if there is a spark, i think all the power is concentrated in each individual spark - kind regards, Bennjanse
an air core coil doesnt have losses to frequency like an iron core... if it had an iron core the effect you would notice would simply be a higher q... the light would just stay on longer... but because there are such high speed oscillations occuring or (allowed) to occur in an air core the light gets brighter because it has nowhere to drain the energy... but at too high of a frequency mechanical switches get pretty hot just from friction..
So here is question - what is difference between transistor logical "1" / "0" and physical switch? I understand about causing sparks with physical switch but.. is that only 1 reason what causes better back EMF?
also can the electricity that powers the light bulb travel through water? or does the light bulb run cold ? I am looking to create cold electricity and if this is not going to do it I will need to follow Tesla's bar's experiment
I have found a way to harvest the Back-EMF in my Bedini Motor drive coil. I connect a diode (silver end) to the end of the drive coil nearest the rotor. The black end of the diode is connected to the negative side of a capacitor. The positive side of the capacitor is connected to the end of the drive coil, furthest from the rotor. When I combine the outputs of the EMF and the Bedini output, it increases 50%. (in terms of Current * Volts = Power)
hi guy, interesting video, I am non to smart with electrical s, being more mechanically minded, when producing generator electrical power, 1st we get a charge 1, then another charge 2, which is called back emf, does back emf have any difference electrically, or is it just an annoying part of the relationship of electrical production, LOL, I did say I was dumb when it came to comprehending electrical s LOL....
Thanks. Yes by using several transistors in serial (all share same base) the effect should further increase. But I do not think the performance of the switch will be reachable.
The Coil is saturated in both setups 1 & 3 (Transistor and Switch) since the bulb in the "ON moment" reaches the same brightness in both setups (1 & 3). The Amp draw is the same in both setups (1 & 3). The Transistor gets more than enough power to open full in (almost) the same time as the physical switch, this I conclude from the brightness of the bulb in the "ON moment". Only when the "OFF moment" occures there is a extrem difference between setup 1 & 3. Test it as I did and you will see!
I have been investigating back-emf, switching, and old oscillators. If you get a min you might find my paper on the same subject interesting. Feel free to send me an email with your thoughts. Google up, "the secret of tesla's radiant energy and over unity power explained"
Free inexhaustible energy is real! But the powerfull Oil business won't alow common ppl to know this,Find this technology at LT-MAGNET-MOTORdotCOM ,Be part of the revolution!
I can agree that the method of switching is relative to the intensity of the back EMF. I've been researching different contact metals and so far have found that pure silver creates the highest spike.
do you think that is possible to load the same battery with the same induced current? that is, instead of to ignite a bulb of 12 volts, to recharge the same battery?
It should work. I saw you doing something very similar with one of your newer setups. The video only shows the basic principle. I think a sparkgap is the way to go.
@TheGuru2You ok, but how you can install a sparkgap in my system.....? the sparkgap i know that is for a high voltage generator....! my motor is not a high voltage generator....!
So, this happens because the switch is slower than the transistor? Is this why (as well as frequency modulation) Tesla suggested using different types of rotary spark gaps?
The primary coil has to neutralize its self when the current is cut off and the magnetic field collapses (or else it could not remain copper). Combining this with the observation that the only thing that was changed is the resistance it seems to me as if the environment helps the electrons to pass the resistance of the transistor or switch. The higher the resistance the more the environment has to help.

Other Infos:
My Back EMF testresults with Condensator 1000V 20µF:
To picture 1: Transistor charged a Condensator to maximum of 7 Volts only in less than 1 Seconds. I used a PWM with frequenzy controll set at 100Hz.
To picture 2: Transistor (Bedini) charged a Condensator to maximum of 130 Volts in about 5 Seconds. I used a bedini "motor" running at 15Hz (900RPM)
To picture 3: The switch charged a Condensator to maximum of 410 Volts in only 2-3 Seconds. I switched manualy at about 2Hz.

Interesting video!
If you keep the power (volts x amps) into the coil constant, will there be a specific volts & amps that generates the most back EMF?

very cool.
i agree with the switch, is better.
cleaner sharper cut off from power.........the mosfet will back bleed some power....
i am driving relays with the mosfet....the mosfet works the silinoid, witch opens or closes the points or switch.
thanks for the video

The Sparkgap has nothing to do with your motor. A sparkgap would need a different setup.

@MrAnguswangus
In short:No.
My explanation for this phenomenon is following:
The primary coil has to neutralize its self when the current is cut off and the magnetic field collapses (or else it could not remain copper). Combining this with the observation that the only thing that was changed is the resistance it seems to me as if the environment helps the electrons to pass the resistance of the transistor or switch. So the fastest switch is spark gap with air and/or magnetic pressure for fast turn off time ? (like in the Tesla docs :)
txqNL 1 year ago
@txqNL
Very close - a spark gap has a even higher resistance than the switch and would cause a greater BEMF effect!
