i was there yesterday...the mona lisa is not so stunning as you hear from everywhere... sure, it´s a brilliant painting, but for me, it´s not much more than that... and her smile is ok, but her eyes aren´t smiling at all, to me, she looked kinda exhausted or bored... well, if you get the chance to visit the louvre, judge for yourself... :P
@CriticaLxThoughX the whole comment shows how little you know.. did you see Mona Lisa just to see it? there is so much more about the painting than just her smile and eyes.
I know, there is more, that´s why I wrote "it´s a brilliant painting". But nowadays she is so popular because of her smile, you can´t deny that. so every "average person" who is excited to see this smile of which the whole world talks may be disappointed.
the painting was revolutionary in its days, but nowadays, its magnificence is spoiled by all the big fake expectations you get from hearing crazy shit about it. I think that´s what I wanted to say originally.. :P
@CriticaLxThoughX haha then I misuderstood, this explains it much better than the last comment, Mona Lisa is famous because it's famous... people want to see it just to see it... I think that people before knew more about the painting than now... and your right, people have great expectations to the painting, and then gets dissappointed, because you look at it once and that's it.. many people probably need to look at it longer and think... haah sorry this whole comment is kind of weird...
i heared that the real one is in private collection in swiss, the problem with mona lisa is, that there are simply to many copies in the world, so that many people are fooled and simply do not know that the one they have is the real or fake
@lekkerereet : Really? I didn't know that. I think famous paintings or statues should be own by their country of origin. Probably, one day Italy and Egypt would claimed those masterpieces to be in their soil. I think Italy and Egypt are capable to take care of them.
There is no way people can really admiring the painting in this kind of situation. You need to observe patiently, use your imagination with quiet surrounding... not just taking pictures..
I read that the painting we see here is actually a PERFECT reproduction...the real painting is no larger than a regular piece of paper or so and is hidden in a protective vault. The flash of cameras, organic decomposition, concentration of oxygen would have made the original painting fade, disclour and become blotchy. Interesting huh?! :)
Es gibt eine Vielzahl guter Bilder im Louvre! Grössere, imposantere und weitaus schönere als die Mona Lisa . . . Schade, schenkt niemand diesen mehr Beachtung!!!!
this video says allot about consumerism and art, the majority of people looking at the painting have no ambition to really recognise it or see its beauty, all there trying to do is capture it photographically, which is such an inferior duplication. There not seeing the Mona Lisa, there just seeing the 'most famous painting in the world', they way they treat it is the way they would treat a celebrity. What the Louvre has done isn't an exhibition, its an exposure, a commercialised rape.
it makes no sense. sure, the Mona Lisa is pretty and well painted, but why all the focus on her when Durer, and Vermeer painted women just as well ! pretty ones too!
I went there in '06 & the Louvre is some place! Some walk to the center piece itself (the Mona Lisa)
When I went with a few friends, we weren't allowed to take pics at all - of course we snaked in a few snaps but the security was quite strict - especially with flash photography - they were taking peoples cameras off them and all!
Just wondering when was this vid taken?
& peepz wanting to go and see it - look directly across from the mona lisa - that piece of art was amazing compared to this!!!!
@lowerlowerhk i think its special because leonardo worked who knows how long on that painting, but its not a copy its the original painting, every brush stroke was made by leonardo.
@YeahRightDudeHa because when you look at her mouth, you can't see the smile. But if you look at her eyes the smile magically appears. It's also famous because of the mystery behind it...no one knows for sure who the woman in the picture is.
@filipcovemaeker2 But the awe that one is generating through the viewing of this picture, the history that this mere painting has and the genius who painted the picture is to much to just leave alone.
@filipcovemaeker2 haha i was there yesterday, and i only took pictures, and saw the painting through the telephone, but almost not in real life... stupid me haha.
@filipcovemaeker2 Yes, only to tell their friends they were there or something. People are not captivated by her, they are captivated by her popularity.
@filipcovemaeker2 it's takes 5 seconds to take a photo. I'm pretty sure we would all take a personal photo of our experience witnessing the Mona Lisa to look back on and show to friends and family the things we'd seen in Paris. it doesn't mean people aren't appreciating the painting. get off your high horse.
yea... people are the most interesting! Or if you're decicing what camera to buy! I'm amazed they allow flash... you'd think that might damage the painting eventually....
AMAZING PAINTING AMAZING ITALIAN ARTIST LEONARDO DA VINCI....IT SHOULD GO BACK WHERE IT BELONGS ITALY!!!!1

They could probably sell out everything else in the museum except this and the customers would still keep coming just as often.

look at their faces when they are taking pictures of Mona Lisa. their faces exactly look like they are stealing something or doing something bad.

It´s because its history and its mystery.
I wouldn´t allow to take photos to the painting, because it´s the most famous one and one of Leonardo´s best paintings. Flash could damage it.
