  • Love this song and video. Sinbad was hilarious!

  • I believe this video was also for people going to college or in college at the time as well. I remember this, School Daze and ADW were all out at the same time. It's a message in this song for college students. If you attended a hbcu in the 80's or 90;s, you already know what im talking about!

  • This music will live on FOREVER.. word up on da realz. i cant say that about da new school....10 more yrz, they STILL gon play jamz like this.. can someone PLEASE give me a thumbz up? LOL..

  • good song

  • Aye love it now this good music

  • this was when music was real

  • this was when music used 2 be fun, something u can dance 2.

  • I remember my friends and I trying to get that dance move @3:22 to 3:24. That was a cool move.

  • had no idea who little walter was at that time..until cadilac reacords...I had my on vision of a young man with quick fam and didnt know what 2 do with it...well at least my vision was right ,wow and i was born in the 70's rip lil walter

  • Classic. The song that put Tony! Toni! Tone! on the map. I was a big fan ever since.

  • i hope this kind of music can come in the 2011... forget the Trey Songzs, Drakes, Lil Waynes, Lady Gagas anyday of the week!! lol

  • This song scared the pure shyt outta me as a little kid. Walter was using dope but I never knew that just knew something killed his azz. I was dancing to all them moves, and scared at the same time. Soul music with a message works, we gotta bring this type of soul back!

  • @radah25 , this song was actually based on the personal experience of Rafael Sadique, "Walter" was a drug dealer who made some bad deals and was shot to death one day as he answered the door, the song was Tony Toni Tone's version of the old spirtual "Wading on the water" i hope that helps.

  • This song used to scare the hell out of me when I was little. It just sounded creepy with all the deep voiced "ahhhhh" good song though

  • My name is walter and my teacher sings this song in class

  • THANX FOR THE POST AN' ALL. :D

THEY NEED TO "H.D." THIS MUG!, (OTHERWORDZ, PUT IT "IN HIGH DEF".) TRU DAT! :D

  • Hahaha. Thanks for posting . I enjoyed Sinbad the commedian appearance and the beats and dance starting at 3:10 .

  • Love this song, video.... Tony, Toni ,Tone rule.

  • What movie was this song on?

  • OH MY GOODNESS.. i USED GET DOWN ON THIS ONE...

  • Look behind you Little Walter

  • the beat is so haunting

  • TTT was always one of the more unique artists. First time I heard this back in the day I couldnt believe it sounded something like church meets Whodini lol

  • wow i mean this song is pretty werd

  • haha im loviin this freak I love youtube every song i wanna hear is on here but look ive been noticing thiss!!!!

  • One of my favs from Tony Toni Tone, I love the beat and the harmonies and the fact that Sinbad is in the video ( my fave comedian) My parents had the pleasure of meeting Sinbad once he got out the of the airforce and before he became famous. He was a cable man, he hooked up their cable, he kept them laughing the entire time he was there. My parents were having a party that night but did not invite him, years later when they saw him on T.V they kicked themselves for not inviting him to the party.

  • I remember this jam and I loved it back then! The dance moves are the bomb and the harmony's are tight! You know these dudes sang in church! Working as an RN in drug treatment, I only know to well the evils of drug addiction, and I hope more young people will learn that. This video was a great teacher of that IMO! Love this group!

  • Oh how i miss this era. There will never be music like this again. Thanks WOMANDREAM69

  • Actually Sinbad was already on the scene long before this video ever came out he was a comedian.

  • Father I pray all that watch this video will have a wlk worthy of you and the fruit of the spirit will be evident in their lives. Tony Tone Toni has done it again : )

    -Coach Gettight

  • this was real music, no one calling me a hoe or a b*tch. u can listen to it full blast without turning notihing down or when older people are in the room, what happened to the guys of this band? anybody knows, liked all their songs

  • lmao i remember this when i was kid

  • On the other hand Raphael Saddiq (the lead singer) is doing quite well for himself, he don't need Walter's money now !!!!!!!!

  • Last i heard, Sinbad had filed for bankruptcy.......all that 80's and 90's money was gone..................

  • @vkellman spent too much money on crazy looking pants I guess...

  • lol party up in here

  • guter song!

  • i'M NOT quite sure but it looks like sinbad had played the character of lil walter

  • @lavictoria1000 Yeah, that's Sinbad.

Ironically a couple of years later he landed the role of character named Walter on A Different World.

  • Actually, A Different World came out the year before this song. I think that might have been part of the reason Sinbad agreed to do the video.

  • @Yobachi2007 lmao... yep... i was wondering if anybody else noticed that ahahahaha

  • good message then, good message now!

  • Exactly WHY was this song so "controversial"? I don't understand. The song has a message behind it, so people back then complaining about the "Wade in the Water" usage were STUPID, since Tony! Toni! Tone! were a CREDIBLE group from the 80s.

  • I really miss those video soul days

  • You so much don't care about my opinion that you wrote a whole essay in response.

No you care, you care A LOT!

You're still a fool, and prove it with each comment.

Have you never heard the statement better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

You're about as educated as a retarded goat. You should sue whatever institution supposedly educated your ignorant ass.

  • Great Message for all ages!

  • show some respect clown!

  • Hey doob234, that "depressing churchy version" saved people's lives, and brought them out of slavery.

You might want to think before you speak. I guarantee you Tony Toni Tone doesn't share your sentiment. They where just updating the "O' slave ass suffering version" for modern times, hoping to educate idiots like you. Unfortunately, you can't do much with a fool!

  • "O' slave ass suffering version" .....they are called Old Negro Spirituals.

  • And their dance moves are on point!!

  • The message to this song had a more profound effect on me than any whack ass AfterSchool Special ever did.

  • @NepperCat yep

  • @NepperCat Hey Don't Disrespect the after school special. lol.

  • @tzford The only one worth a damn was "The Truth About Alex" with Scott Baio, or "Quarterback Princess" with Helen Hunt.

  • @NepperCat lol to be honest I don't rember any of them so your better than me.

  • @tzford Classics, I tellya...

  • I saw them at the Richmond Coliseum back in '94. They came with Janet Jackson and they almost stole the show from her.

  • the concerts back then use to be on fire, because everybody wasn't afraid to wild out on stage like they are now

  • no joke. I use to copy their dance steps lol

  • my mother and I use to love this..what am I saying i still do

  • WBLS May 1988.

  • Sinbad is a clown!!!!LOL

  • Thanks. I bought this album when it first came out based on this video. The whole thing was great. My sergeant liked it so much he bought it from me.

  • Ha I found it been so long since I last heard this wonder if I can sing the base parts..lolSin Bad was a fool..

  • I love this video, Sinbad as was great!!..This was my first time watching the video...Thank you

  • the mob got Sinbad

  • this was the bizness!!! loooves it..Raphael was workin that bang..lol

  • This song still holds up.

  • my names val too!

  • I can't believe this was so long ago..20 years? I used to have those Giorgio Brutinis with the silver toe tips...lol

  • LMAO....me too!!!

  • I started singing this song the other day, so I decided to look it up. This video used to scare the mess out of me as a child! Now as an adult, it doesn't make any sense! LOL

  • LOL! I hadn't thought about this song in years but today a Tony Toni Tone song was playing on the radio and I started thinking about Little Walter. I remember this song giving me nightmares! Well, I just watched the video and I'm all like WTF ... what did I find so scary about it? It doesn't even sound as spooky as I remembered it. And it has Sinbad acting a fool. Sinbad! How did I find this video so scary? The mind plays tricks, I swear.

  • LOL! Good, I thought I was the only one. I think what scared me the most as a child was the part, "When Walter fell to the floor, and the casket part. Now, as an adult, I look at the dramatics of this video, and I'm like....they went through ALL THAT, and all the brotha had to do was pay a late fee for the rent! ha ha ha

  • @crcaldwell I agree, but the fear factor was it was basically a modern spiritual with a prophetic message. Things weren't as degraded as they are now, and Walter was a metaphor for Black Consciousness dealing with the crack epidemic and the down spiraling to come, it's scary how on point they were.

  • look at that hair...lol

  • Unfortunately, no.

And it's definitely taking off from the old spiritual "Wade in the Water."

The arrangement and instrumentation is dated and screams "1980's) but they were a talented group.

  • is this song dedicated to little walter the harmonica player

  • hey little water lizard...lol!

  • I know everybody has got there memories with this song, but when i first so this video i was stationed in Germany and i saw it on a video jukebox, in there getting drunk and dancing GOOD TIMES!

  • lol walter from a different world. sinbad was the shit then!!! I was 10 years old when this song came out. this use to be my jam!! I remember this was their first single.

  • I just start dancing, and Sinbad was the hottest comedian at that time too!!!!!

  • This song takes me back!! I remember the first time my grandmother heard it, she thought they were singing Wade in the Water!

  • gpeach850, it would have been funny if she asked them to sing it in church. It would have thrown everyone off!

  • Is one of the members related to the Edmonds family(Babyface)? He has a striking resemblance. Not Raphael but the other one.

  • No, Raphael and Dwayne Wiggins are brothers, Timothy Christian Riley is their cousin.

  • Ok, Thanks. I thought they were related considering how talented the Edmonds' are.

  • U R THINKING OF AFTER 7

  • Probably so.

  • Actually, I won't lie....after following Tony! Toni! Tone!'s career all of my life, I myself have ALWAYS felt that their sound/look (specifically Raphael) reminded me a lot of Babyface lol. I don't know, and just as a whole, just they're style of singing reminded me of Babyface, even back in the 80s. That's a very good thing, cause I've always put BOTH Babyface and the group in the same boat of updating and revolutionizing R&B, as they both had enough hip-hop appeal to not tarnish R&B. Thumbs UP

  • OMG!!! I remember when this first came out!!! I immediately fell in love with Tx3!!!

  • I wonder wat happen there with Sinbad? did someone suppose to shot him or what?

  • YEA SINBAD WAS SHOT

  • what's the 411 on that, send me some info please.

  • I think Sinbad also playd Walter on A Different World.

  • Yea he did.

  • Tony Toni Tone were awsome.

I remember seeing this video back in the late 80s. It was good for them to have Sinbad as "Little Walter" in this Video.

  • i no wade in the water when i hear it

  • Man a true video from my childhood!

    -StoicOne!

  • Much memories-Thanx! I use to date a guy for about 3 years just cuz he looked and danced like Raphael back when this song came out!

  • This like some of that old Video Soul type shit. I missed those days.

  • I recall when my father played this video for me and my brothers when we were super-duper young, and I finally found the video! I have not seen it in at least a decade good job WOmanDream69 =).

  • I had an uncle named walter, me I and my younger cousins would sometime gather around him and sing this song just to piss him off lol

  • I saw Raphael Saadiq in Tahoe at a casino w/sum fine woman, knew it was him rite away,he was wearing a mustard colored suit & his lady friend was dressed very flamboyant too.he was really cool,we chatted with him for a few minutes, very friendly.

  • At 3:18: I Like the way Raphael Saadiq danced!

    Nice Video
