IMO, the award shouldn't be about age or genre. All music is real music, but the grammy's got it all wrong this time. Even if JB didn't win, Drake should have. I think that despite age/genre, they are both very multi-talented individuals who have worked hard and gained a strong following because of their hard work. IMO, the award shouldn't be about age or genre. All music is real music, but the grammy's got it all wrong this time. Even if JB didn't win, Drake should have. I think that despite age/genre, they are both very multi-talented individuals who have worked hard and gained a strong following because of their hard work. Esperanza is very talented but no one knew who she was until she won this award. She is not a sum of all parts. It sucks that the grammy's are so biased sometimes.

He plays over 4 instruments (I think 6), dances, sings, and has gone leaps & bounds from a youtube star, to a legit artist in 2 years. He has ACCOMPLISHED a lot, & arguably has done more to DESERVE this award.

@SatchmoSings I never said anything bad in regard to Esperanza Spalding. Yes she does make genuine music, but that doesn't make Justin's music any less genuine? He co-wrote most of his songs; just because it's "pop" doesn't mean it doesn't deserve a Grammy. I just personally hate when people THINK they know what "real" music is, when in my opinion, all music is real. If Justin & Esperanza had the same genre of music, Justin would've won the award. That's my opinion. The judging was biased.

@CandyKisses129 You have no conception of what makes something really art; to make an analogy, you sound as if the some graffiti is on the same level as Picasso; it isn't though there are many people, of course, who would insist that it is.
That you keep insisting that a pop-star is on the same level of a real musician shows that you have no artistic sense; maybe with some education and maturity you will come to comprehend the difference.

This is what true musicians understand and what drives them to dedicate their ENTIRE LIVES to STUDYING the art. I'm sorry, but JB's music doesn't offer anything other than happy vibes. The fact that you get a good feeling out of it is GREAT, but it's not doing anything for the evolution of music as an art and certainly doesn't deserve to be awarded for that.

Ok Justin Bieber sings well, but listen Esperanza's albums and and try to heard the way she sings on a complex chord, the arrangement she makes on each songs, the way she groove with her bass even on 3/4...

Just because Old people prefer Jazz music, doesn't mean that Pop/R&B isn't music. Of course they will choose a very talented Jazz artist with little notable accomplishment (record sells, fan following, etc.) over a comparably very talented pop/R&B artist who is young and has ACCOMPLISHED a hell of a lot more in the past YEAR.

@lyrralt Got it... good thing I listen to jazz music too :-). My comment was misunderstood. I never said that young people don't listen to jazz, because I do and that would be stupid. I grew up listening to Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Etta James, Etta Jones, Sade, etc. I listen to a lot of my dad's jazz/blues/soul music, etc. I SHOULD HAVE said that old people don't like pop/rap music, & seeing as I love all music that can be VERY fustrating. Why can't happy music be "real" music too?

@CandyKisses129 I think the only way you would be able to understand is to pick up an instrument, start getting lessons on your instrument and music theory, and start learning music. You'll notice how the stuff going on in JB's music is at a very elementary level musically, and the stuff going on in jazz will take you years to grasp. I want this to also be clear: I'm not happy because JB lost, I'm happy because someone who deserves to be awarded as an ARTIST won.

@CandyKisses129 I am sick of this idea that jazz is something for old people; It has absolutely nothing to do with age. Anyone who understands and appreciates art will be able to appreciate jazz music. It just so happens that for most people, it takes time and maturity (w/ age comes wisdom) to develop such an understanding. Many will never develop it; not because they can't but because they don't care to. For the true artists; it is not something they have to mature into; it is instinct.

@rmc868 Excuse me for being misunderstood, I don't think Jazz is ONLY for old people. I simply think old people are closed minded & ONLY like Jazz/blues/old genres of music. I, personally, like every genre of music INCLUDING Jazz. I feel as though there is a bias today that I don't get. It's not just w/ Justin Bieber it's w/ Drake too. I don't feel like rap/pop is any less of MUSIC than Jazz, but older people have this notion that it is. Music is Music & I love it all.

LMAOOO, when people say Justin Bieber doesn't have talent. You sound uneducated. Esperanza is very talented, but so is Justin Bieber. He has played the drums(banjo, etc.) and guitar since he was around 2 years old, and also plays the piano, sings and dances. He was discovered on Youtube and is a product of talent, no machine. Like I said Esperanza is very talented, but has not accomplished much in terms of being the "best" at anything. It wasn't her time, but hopefully this will help her career.
